before my hair was bleached, i would put on shampood but unconditioned hair, some brands recommend this. now that it's been bleached, it wouldn't survive a shampoo without immediate condition :P so i shampoo, condition, and air dry as normal, then i dye the next day on "clean" hair without any product. when bleaching it's important to put on "dirty" hair since your scalp is more protected. for dyes, less is more i.e. freshly shampood and clean, no product. without conditioner probalby ideal but does fine if conditioned. some brands specify wet / towel dried, others say on dry hair. be sure to read the box and just follow the instructions. leaving on longer doesn't hurt your hair with the semi-permanents cuz there is no bleach or ammonia, will just result in a stronger color.
@@ItsJustHairwithHeather Thank you! The Luna Tides bottle only says "clean hair" but isn't clear on what exactly that means. I have wavy hair so for my sanity I'll use a little bit of conditioner. I don't bleach my hair at home because I have a lot of hair and chronic pain. It's safe to take your time with semi-permanent dye and I can rest my arms and back lol.
*generally speaking* on clean dry unconditioned hair (wraped on head in shower cap or saran wrap that will let your head heat it up) and rinsed out with cold water, it will have the best chance to absorb more color and last longer.
@@ItsJustHairwithHeather I definitely have a shower cap I use for heat treatments and it's summer here in Australia so heat is easy to come by without the use of additional things 🤣

Do you put the dye on hair that has been shampooed and conditioned? Or do you just shampoo your hair before dying?
