As stated in the video, be VERY careful when using with tanks that have snails.
We used panacure-c to try and kill some hydra. Removed my nerite snail BEFORE the treatment. Did the treatment as per the directions from other aquarists, and did a 50% water change 24 hours later. Did another water change 24 hours after that, then waited a day or two before I put my nerite back in the tank. Keep in mind that before this, he was doing just great for months.
A couple days after we put him back in the tank, he stopped moving around, went dormant and eventually died. This took about two weeks.
Two weeks after that, we got two more nerite snails, and the same thing happened to them a few days later; they went dormant and eventually died, although it took longer this time around. All this time, we were doing weekly water changes of about 20%.
I'm convinced that the product coated the substrate, rocks and even leeched into the driftwood, thus causing the eventual death of our snails WEEKS after the treatment had been cleared from the tank.
(BTW, all our water parameters were within acceptable ranges before, during and after treatment. No spikes of any kind.)
We got a new nerite a couple weeks ago, and he's doing just fine.
As for how our shrimp and fish did with the treatment, they all did well and we didn't lose any fish or shrimp.
So, be VERY careful if you use this stuff in tanks that you normally have snails in. The long-term effects can be deadly to them.

Thanks so much, Mark! I found planaria and was planning on changing the substrate from Fluval Mud to sand. Also because I lost my wedding ring setting up this substrate two years ago. Anyhoo, I learned that after I'd scooped shrimp and plants to put in my QT tank while I worked on RCS tank that the planaria were on the plants I'd moved. But fenbendazole is safe for plants so I can put the infected plants from QT back into RCS tank w/new substrate, THEN dose it. But it sounds like I'd be fine moving plants & RCS back into my shrimp tank w/new substrate and dosing it afterward. [Wish me luck finding my wedding ring!]

Thanks for the advice and had a funny reaction with No Planaria and what was in my tank. I actually had Rhabdocoela worms which it didn’t not kill, and have read it won’t in on forums. Plus didn’t experience much MTS die off so far but hear it can happen weeks down the line as you also stated here. SoI’m doing 5% water changes and keeping an eye on my tank levels. So far I’ve noticed a ton more cyclops which they say is a great indicator species that things are ideal. Thanks again for the tips

No Planaria also kills hydra. The only negative I experienced with the product was it slowly killed off my ramshorn snails, as you noted in the video. However, I didn't have any shrimp die offs, even though I did overdose the second treatment. It's my personal favorite for removing these type of pests. I recommend removing as many snails as possible prior to usage though and removing any dead bodies during.

I found Hydra in blue dream shrimp tank for the first time. I see doggie dewormer is not snail safe so need to rehome them. However, I am wondering if I put Nerite snail in shrimp tank to other tank that are not affected by hydra, if Snail could move hydra with them and makes other tank hydra introduced in. What do you suggest to go about it? If I could put the snail in hospital tank and mild med that would not affect them so harsh to make sure nothing on them, I would like to know. Paraguard and other med is useful? I think your video is very informative and I like them. Thank you for the good info.

Well Marck, I'll tell you my way to eradicate planaria and prevernir in a natural way since you know that these chemicals are difficult to eradicate our aquariums. The simplest way you can use is to put about 5 guppys fry in your aquarium to treat or prevent for 7 days, planarias are natural food of peses and they do not attack them, at the end of eradicating planaria you then return to aquarium Of guppys.Saludos

They talk about the impact on shrimp, does it have the same effect on cray fish? I want to clear out my tank but am concerned about killing the snails and cray fish. I thought about emptying the tank, placing the cray fish and snails in a temporary tank, and boiling the rocks to kill off the worms.

    1) Remove all snail from your tank before dosing no planaria. 2) Fill a bucket with tank water and put your snails in there. They are hardy and will survive in there - feed them fish food every day / few days. 3) Dose your tank and remove planaria 4) Wait a month or two before re-introducing your snails. Only add a few snails at a time to see if they survive. If they don't wait another month and try again until it is safe to re-introduce all your snails.

In your opinion, when dosing fenbendazole, would it be safer to remove the shrimp (for safety measures) and treat the tank, or better to leave the shrimp in while treating the tank in case they are infected? Also, how long after treating the tank can you introduce the snails back in? I imagine you would have to do several large water changes

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 років тому +1

You could remove the shrimp but the treatment normally takes 1-2 weeks so its impractical especially with softwater shrimp.. if you run activated carbon in the tank it should be safe for snails after a few days.

They come in on plants ect ,the eggs are tiny as well so you would never see them..quarantine is the way to go to fully stop them and luckily for me my supplier of shrimp deworms all his shrimp when he gets them so I never see them.

Marks Shrimp Tanks thank you for that Mark, most of my plants go into the fish tanks first until I get fed up with them lol, so hopefully they get eaten then. What about moss Mark ???

Oh yes anything can carry the eggs, you will find though that stuff that has come from fishstores or people that keep fish the plants will be planaria free because fish eat them.

I was curious if you have ever had to treat a tank with No Planaria while baby Trumpet snails where still in your tank? I have tons of babies in my tank and will be unable to remove all of the snails as well as all my CRS . Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Love the videos

    • @MarksShrimpTanks

Yes I did a long time ago, I removed what I could but you never get them all, the no planaria ether slowly kills them or they survive
