I sure like my Hyosung I have here in the states I have had it for almost 10 years r so. Its a cruiser style 650. Definitely unique. Had to do a few electrical mods such as a Ninja 650 stator and a Yamaha r1 regulator. That was about the extent of the bad bits. I had a 08 Bonneville before that and its a friggen rocket compared to it. Gets just as many looks as well. I still want to get a gt650 and make it into sort of a universal upright bike. I see them all the time for cheap but they are beat pretty bad.
That’s very cool man! Was the starter motor a straight swap? And was there any benefit with the R1 reg? I’m very keen to get this finished, I paid $450 AUD which is probably about $250-300 usd. It had been dropped a few times and needed a complete rebuild but it’s been a very fun cheap project. Including mods it will probably end up owing me $1500-$2000 aud
@@PeelOutGarage I replaced the stator not the starter. The stator and regulator are known buggers on the hyosung bikes. I knew it getting into it. Same situation with my Bonnie. I changed its regulator out at well to a r1 regulator back in 2010. The hyosung bike have a tendency to not charge the battery and or short the stock stator windings. There's all sorts of write-ups and even some yt videos on the swaps and fixes. Luckily parts are cheap second hand over here for them. I hope you stick with it. It'll be nice to see budget bikes getting some love. Be safe.
At the moment we are waiting on some parts to arrive from the states. But with COVID we haven’t been able to make much progress yet. The next episode will likely be building a custom sump, mounting the gearbox and wiring the engine
