Looks like the larvae would make good fishing bait.
Well I don’t disagree, but if they are trying to get rid of it as an invasive species, they don’t wanna run the risk of accidentally spreading it by hand/ human intervention.
(You take it out, you grab the grub and as you cast your line the grub comes off but lives. Spreads and reproduces and becomes invasive again. )
We all know humans aren’t perfect and we will have spread it just as badly if we let them use the majority as bait.
Yeah we use some type of beetles in Tennessee we always called them grub worms but I don't think ours are invasive or bad really. I've caught some catfish and bream they really stay on the hook.
These are bigger than what we have. I bet I could really do good with these.
@@djredshowYou’re more than welcome to come over and have as many as you want maybe you could start a new fishing bait line in Tennessee! Who knows you might get rich and famous selling Hawaiian grubs! 😂
@unknownreality7941 naw I might mess our whole ecosystem up like Asian carp have. Grubs are good fishing bait though.
This is what you call Ohana spirit. I’m very happy to that the community is coming together to help out their neighbors. I miss my home so much. I plan on coming home as soon as I can.
I hope you can come soon my friend because the Ohana spirit is fading away so quick and even today it’s nothing like before you left I tell you the truth! 🙁
*What do you call it when the farm fukd up? And now the Ohana spirit has to come and get their ass out of the fire?*
Still Ohana or Scamhana?
Smart to make it a fun educational contest!
I would think chickens would love them and clear them of of the green waste piles
Simple
I found grubs in my compost when went to turn it.
I showed my dogs and now I have two tillers that will dig threw everything, to the point that I had to fence off the gardens.
Whatever kind of beetle grunts they are, they give the dogs some horrible gas.

Wonderful. Hawaii will now and always be 1 of the most beautiful and important parts of our world. Thank You all !,,,,,,,
*Not even close. But that shows how little you know of the world.*
Good job with the propaganda!
Spreading Horticulture Corn Meal would help efficiently because hunting might leave lots of eggs unfound; I had similar grubs/Japanese Beetle larvae in my garden and found this natural solution online and it worked amazingly. The beetles eat corn meal but cannot digest it and slow down and eventually die - you see the difference in 1-2 weeks
That’s awesome! So not just any old corn meal?
@@bolynn9668 it probably will work but I bought one from Amazon for soil amendment
Is the department of agriculture aware of this?
Seems like a great answer. But maybe it depends on the type of beatle…..right
Can also trick something into eating the corn meal by mixing it with powder sugar too
billbuta Interesting spelling choice. The sole beatle known to have infested Maui, over by Hana was George Harrison, it died decades ago.
Start selling them as fish bait and bird food and then people have a real incentive to get out there and collect
People would just start breeding them if there was a commercial market
@@blacksquirrel4008 your right. That’s what sucks. You could come up with the best plan but could never trust everyone to do what’s right.
Give the CRB larve to an egg farm. Then chickens would love them.
Beautiful, community centered, ecologically responsible, adult led education and action. THIS IS adulting at a high level!
Getting the kids involved is great. I loved creepy crawly things as a kid. And still think mantids are wonders. A great result fir the day, and hopefully a lauch fir island wide action.
This is a bug catching tournament from pokemon 😂😂😂
Save yourself some time……and get an army of chickens 😂
And free eggs 😃
Right on!! Get some chickens out there
Simple
A year ago, a demonstration with pigs was successful. Chickens are also useful. The pigs have the tools to root and dig more then chickens. CRB control with animals is similar to vegetation control with goats. You need strong fencing to keep the animals contained, and trailers to bring them in and out from the area geing treated.
The key will be finding a way to finance these programs, and expand them.
Pigs and chickens are out of control in Hawaii already!
Love the care, the concern and the togetherness 🤙🏽
Where was the care when the farm allowed this to happen?
🧠before 🤙and this wouldn't have happened.
Having the children there that love digging in the dirt and looking for bugs was a fantastic idea.
Now that you have them. It is time to go fishing. They make great bate.

@@fjb4932 I agree, it should be half not have.
@@clownfish7776 They’re their, there, innit? 😉
Heck yeah catfish
Lol man I can imagine they are really good
Seems like they're large enough you could be able to build a trap that would catch them without disturbing many other insects.
The beetles, maybe, because they move around; but most grubs hardly move much at all, so traps wouldn't work for them.
Yeah! People get together!!!

Brilliant idea!
Bryce Moore is a great broadcaster. He really paid attention to his dad.
Awesome work everyone! 💪🏽💯👍🏼
Obviously, if there are that many in such a small area, there is absolutely no chance in large scale control. Wff
Armadillos would be my choice since they like to burrow and they love grubs. Ask many people and they'll say armadillo's taste like chicken. could be a win-win.
@@rwoodey68🤦🏽♀️
That's what they collected in what seems like 900sq ft home 😑🏳Yay community
They're Hawaiians. How many inventions came from Hawaii? Exactly.
"Another low-eye-que state is Hawaii (95.6), where eye-que is pulled down by native Hawaiians (eye-que 87), Portuguese with significant African ancestry (eye-que 90), and mixed-race people, such as European-Hawaiians (eye-que 93) and Chinese-Hawaiians (eye-que 91)"
Btw, had to code the word, because it's banned on YT, because only certain groups get their intelligence referred to!
It's also spreading fast in Vanuatu
Here in So Cal we have grubs this size that are from the Japanese Fig Beetles, and they are a favorite food of our chickens, good source of protein too.
Much the size of "Witchety Grubs", eaten raw in Australia.
@@briseboy They are actually quite a delicacy, sauteed in a light oil with garlic.
Fantastic work and happy to see so many keiki! Wish I could have been there! Malama ka ‘aina!
WOW.. WHAT A GREAT PLAN!❤️❤️🎉🎉
These things are too big for chickens to eat. Chickens swallow their meals whole. The larva of these beetles is very large much larger than any of the grub chickens eat.
They live under ground in soil so a trap will not work.
The best way to deal with these pests are to actively hunt them like this. They have no natural predators in Hawaii. In Asia these beetles have to deal with foxes, raccoon dogs (tanuki), and various birds of prey. Hawaii Feral cats don’t hunt these as the larvae lives under ground and the adults have thick shells.
Get bigger chickens? 😊
I've seen chickens kill and eat whole mice. 3"-4" + tail.
@@pprmnt212 i once had a rooster that caught more mice than my cat.. had to put him down because he was just to aggressive
Keep up the great work!
Fantastic~! Intelligent planning, and people with great hearts. These kids will remember this for the future.
Amazing! GOOD THINKING!
Great idea.. These kind of things should surely have an impact on these small precious islands. feed those things to the moa!
Things like this are a great idea though generally useless because its just a drop in the bucket.
However, if freezing them kills them, why can’t these simply be thrown in the ocean near a known fish feeding area?
It seems a waste to simply incinerate so much protein and fat that could be used as animal food.
See what happens when those people came here and complained about chickens 🐓🐔 They are the ones to eat🪳🐛 🐞 centipedes and all that. Plus they fertilize the solid for better nutrition growth of the plant…… Stop crying and complaining about things that were here before YOU….. Aloha 🤙🏽

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 great work!! impressive 👍🏻👍🏻
Fish bait 🎉
My main question is why import soil when hawaii has super rich soil
Cause people r smart 😂😂
This is very good progress in finding a solution to mitigate the invasive cbr issues 👏 well done from California.
The larvae look like our wattle grubs, might make great fishing bait?
Here in Indiana gives thought to contain horrid woodland evasive plants.
How cool! This is amazing ❤
When you win the battle, without realizing you've already lost the war....
I’m from West Virginia so I don’t know if you could go fishing with them or feed them to the birds or something like that 🤔
You don't have to be from West-by God-Virginia to not know, you know. ☆
Yes, you can use them as bait
This is so good for the children. They are learning about the environment about agriculture the soil, how bugs help and some hurt the environment. They may even become an Entomologist in the future, this is how it begins if they like bugs.
Wow those things are vile
Would you look at the size of those grubs? Imagine the fish you could catch with those, and I'm sure someone's chicken's would love to get into that area. birds, skunks, armadillos, raccoons and/or moles will eat grubs. Might want to import a few.
Invasive species ARE the problem.
Hawaii has tried importing animals to control animals doesn't work. Skunks and raccoons carry rabies and have gotten dependent on human rubbish
"import" a few, huh?
Are you serious?
@rwoodey68 right let throw a already delicate eco system out of wach
They're imported mostly for gambling. They're fighting beetles. They are used for fighting.
That's some good fishing bait!!
Isn't this how they make perfume....jasmine perfume..?? Or something like that..they use kids to collect flowers for perfume ..it looks like that Evan with adults
Placental extracts have been used in cosmetics since the 1950s, in products such as creams, serums, balms, soaps, and lipsticks.
Great fishing bait.
*1:15** Two Inches huh??? So what you are saying is... that farm did this to themselves??? And now wants people to come out and help them out of the situation they put themselves in through ignorance and avarice??*
I can't believe there are so many
Good start , only 1 day 😮
Starting to think basing Vikavolt off a stag beetle rather than a CRB was the wrong choice.
Have a hunting event designed for tourists. Have restaurant vouchers and something creative but worth while for the grand prize.
I wonder if there isn't a similar bacteria like Bacillus thuringiensis for Japanese beetles, that would get rid of the Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle. You apply the powder to the soil or spray the leaves of plants you need to protect and the bacteria take over the larvae, killing them.
Great community event within a great community! uk
Mahalo!
those caterpillars are used for fishing as fishing bait
This is Awesome. Keep going. Offer a reward for Larvae, $.25 each, Adult Female $1.00, Adult Male $75.00.
I haven’t been privy to it in many years… But in Texas, we have a rattlesnake roundup, or did at one time I know of. You would not believe the giant rattlesnakes that are captured, displayed, and turned into all kinds of other goodies, by experts, who know how to capture and deal with rattlesnakes. They are also good to eat, and produce all kinds of other goods with rattlesnake skins, heads, and the rattles.
Can beneficial nematodes be applied as well? I use them for the japnese beetle grubs that look very similar.
I love bugs so I would’ve loved to be a part of this especially if I was still a kid! This would be soo much fun! They called it a tournament so what was the prize though?
Geez! If they feed on coconuts, is anyplace in the Pacific in danger? How far can they fly?
Chickens will eat the larvae. They also eat mice and snakes....great natural pest control. Bonus - they give back eggs for your breakfast.
They make fantastic fishing bait
Wondering...Do they taste good?
in the Philippines they eat them by deep frying it in oils
You got a reference? I'm curious now.

I would of took the larva. Probably be some good bait for fishing.
Sounds like the Springfield "whacking day".
Is this "green waste" that the county provides? I have piles of compost that I sift regularly and have never found a CRB larvae.
I take it you haven't got raccoons on the islands. They would happily dig up and eat those bugs.
Looks like they found a good source of fishing bait if you ask me
900 in 1 hour? Then there are millions on the island.
Billions...
Get some geese and ducks! They’ll wipe those things out.
Do these insects have any natural predators?
Those are delicacy in the Philippines and good source of protein
Are you feeding those to the chickens cause I hope so
Is this from biologists saying this will help deter this other thing yet its devastating to the environment?
Once they are all frozen and killed, why aren't they given to farmers to feed their chickens and pigs?
so the farmers made the perfect breeding place for them, then complains about it????????
Should rely on ourselves to fix things more often, things would actually get done
This has been a problem for over a decade??!!! And we’re just now doing something about it? Yeah sounds like hawaii. We 10 years behind on everything
Other than the Native people, the plant life on Hawaii is all foreign to the island. There is nothing on Hawaii that is really from Hawaii.
Ah the native people is foreign too
