      XD Agree! They played games instead of being straight up about it. I think there would have been less hurt if they had just been honest with themselves(knowing he's not a good fit and not giving in by "faking inclusivity" by letting him particpate at all) and the individuals in question( explaining their opinion and being transparent with the kid and his family).

    As a mother of a special needs child I completely understand people not being qualified to teach special needs, they need extra work, time, and dedication for them alone.

    • @riannamajzoub5241
      @riannamajzoub5241 4 роки тому +111

      Its also why the teacher should have been forthcoming and transparent from the start. She would have been liable if that child or another was hurt even during the times the kiddo was included. As a person with special needs it is not the exclusion but the cover up and "faking it for clout" that is the issue.

It takes a lot of time and patience, on top of that, love and care to be able to help and work with a special needs child. I wouldn't want my child with special needs to be in a room with someone who isn't qualified to take care of them. Plain and simple. I agree with you, but the coach should of been more tactful with her words, and told his family why he was being removed instead of ghosting him. I get it. he’s disabled, but she’s seems quite brash about the “image” standards, and impudent about the situation.
      And, if she wasn’t trained nor prepared to handle Glenn’s special needs then she should of not let him on the team in the first place. Common sense.
      I think she did it because she was afraid she’d get backlash if she didn’t let him on the team. Her mistake.

She was also a manager so she couldn’t help during the entire shift with just one specific child. The breaking point was when he climbed a cabinet about 6-8 feet in the air. We couldn’t reach him and eventually one of our male colleagues was able to catch him. It was very scary. Our manager had to tell the child’s mom that we weren’t equipped with the resources to take care of him. I personally felt like a failure but it was what was best for him. He needed someone to watch him 1 on 1 not be in a group of children where our attention can be diverted easily. Maybe he can join a recreational league of some sort? I wish him the best! All of this could have been avoided. He could have been told that he didn’t match the team’s aesthetic when he tried out. She didn’t have to tell him to wait for a package that was never going to show up.

    The only thing the coach did wrong was letting him on the team in the first place. I don’t want to be rude but she only gave him false hope by saying he passed. Sexuality, race, and gender had nothing to do with this decision. He just lacked the skills required to be a cheerleader. I don’t mean to be rude, sorry if I offended anyone.

      For me the only thing she did wrong, she not being honest right away. Is one thing for her to let him on the team, maybe she thought she could handle it, but when she realized she couldn't handle it. She should have sat down with his parents right away and explain the situation, maybe they could have work something out for him. Her just kicking him out of the team and not saying anything at all just hope they would forget about it, is just as bad as not letting him tryout bc he has special needs.

      No, you’re right. If we’re talking equal rights, the rules of the tryouts (assuming there were any) should’ve applied to this kid. If he couldn’t pass the tryout, he shouldn’t have been let on just like any other kid.

    As much as it sucks and is unfortunate for him, he needs to come to term with reality and understand that his disability will limit what he can do and achieve. That doesn’t mean he can’t do anything or that he can’t try. As much as people want him to chase his dreams, companies and teams don’t want weak links and want people who can do what’s required. It’s a shame and I hope he can find a club or another school that will give him what he wants, but it’s understandable that they would reject him

    I support the coach 100 percent. I am a performer in band and cheer and both require everyone to keep in time and be spot on. The kid doesn't even know half of the moves. I know the family is upset because they said he made the team but he was out of place. Bot because if his disability but because he wasn't even in time with the rest of the team, he looked really confused. Just because he has a disability doesn't make him entitled to a spot on the team. The coach was only doing what's right for the team
