Tim Yeung is one of the greatest and the best technical drummer as well. he's one of my fave drummer. my other faves and the best metal drummer to me: 1. George Kollias (Nile) 2. Derek Roddy (Nile / Hate Eternal) 3. Chris Adler (Lamb Of God) 4. Steve Bolognese (Into Eternity) 5. Jan Axel "Hellhammer"(Dimmu Borgir)
Great band! I have see them 2 times and both times they kick ass! I have talk to all those guys and they are cool as hell! i cannot wait to see them again!
they put effects on the recordings, and on some songs, they may put directly a drum machine, but when they play live, the drummer plays as it is played on the cd. so he's a machine, we can say that :p
Nowhere. Prolly somewhere around 260bpm. Keep in mind. Sometimes 240bpm sounds like 270bpm just because the bassdrum sample is chosen in that way that it sounds really fast. Sometimes 270bpm is executed so sloppy that a well executed 240bpm sounds BETTER. Also counts for blastbeats.
@ZmetalmanZ Pete recently had back surgery, apparently he has been having some serious back problems for years and had to get it done. From what I have read, he is going to be in rehab for a while and Yeung is now the drummer for MA. It has been confirmed on their website. There is only one Commando Sandoval and he will be missed, but Yeung will be a worthy replacement.
Although I respect Tim very much, I can with 100% accuracy claim that George Kollias can achieve 280 with his feet. Tim and George are on a shared first place on my top 5 drummers.
Bassdrum triggering is fine and widely accepted in the metalscene. Often it's close to impossible (or taking a LOT of time) in a live situation to get the bassdrums decently in the mix with a big wall of screams+guitars. Many times that also counts for albums. Sometimes they're combining acoustic sound with samples and then the samples only contain the 'click' sound etc. Anyway, nothing wrong with triggering bassdrum as long as the rest is acoustic.
Hellhammer plays doublestrokes when he gets really fast... that's a different category of technique. As for Opening of the Gates, I believe in the studio they just programmed the kicks and live Sandoval plays triplets. That's what happens when the guitarist writes the songs...
Hey, erm, ASIAN is big, we have Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Thai, Laotian etc etc. We look the same but we have different cultures. So could u pls ask him whether he is of Chinese descent?
Does anyone know the speed (BPM) of Failed Creation Chorus? I learned that today the the correct speed and was just checking to see if its the fastest I can play, thnx
Flo Mounier plays some 300bpm 'hyperblasts' but he's unable to keep his volume up, consequence is that it doesn't sound impressive at all. So in the end, BPM doesn't mean CRAP! It's about how well you can execute it, and Tim does damn well how to execute it. His drumming on Deciphering the Soul is just pro.
"Papyrus Containing the Spell to Preserve its Possessor Against Attacks From He Who is In the Water" goes 270 ;) oh and 265bpm or smthn on annihilation of the wicked.
This band rips it up live. Trust me the vocals are brutal throughout the whole show. Don't knock this band without getting off your ass and seeing them live.
ok then you will soon (when you start listening more closely) know how impossible it is to put derek roddy/portnoy/lang and tim yeung in the same basket. I HAD to call you out on that! :D cheers
at the end, drumming over 250bpm is total mess, it's tapping not playing (as George Kollias once said). You cant play about 280 with power that you can still reach at 230-240. So that was probably on Tim's mind...
hey, Inferno from Behemoth does 290bpm's heels up and thats nothing for him.he doesnt concentrate on speed but on perfect performance.speed is not the main course in his drumming but Inferno is really famous for that.obviuosly there are guys who do 1400 single strokes with their feet, but that's no longer music.i wonder how such a good drummer as Tim couldnt have know that playing 290 bpm's is possible.listen to The Apostasy by Behemoth.that explains everything.
Tim You are THE BEST!!! \m/

Phenomenal talent!!!! Monster Drummer!!!!!!!

Great band! I have see them 2 times and both times they kick ass! I have talk to all those guys and they are cool as hell! i cannot wait to see them again!
Awesome. Tim rules.
they put effects on the recordings, and on some songs, they may put directly a drum machine, but when they play live, the drummer plays as it is played on the cd. so he's a machine, we can say that :p
Tim Yeung in Morbid Angel is going to be awesome, if anyone can fill Sandoval's shoes, it's this guy.
I wish tim would do a clinic in North Carolina. sick drummer

@zakakb So? he was also the drummer in vital remains.
George Hit 280 on his intense metal drumming dvd :)
Who cares whose faster? Its not about speed,its about creativity,Last time I checked,Music isnt competition,its art
@EastCanadianBoyz
george kollias of nile does 260 in 16ths on the song kafir off the new album :)
i love you, tim!
:D
@zakakb
Only for Live performances. and that was 2003...
How fast is Kollias? In terms of 16ths?
Tim es una maquina de matar!
He's got exactly the same voice and tone and accent as Tim Duncan from the SASpurs lol...
Awesome drummer. Soooo neat.
Hey, erm, ASIAN is big, we have Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Thai, Laotian etc etc. We look the same but we have different cultures.

george kollias can do 280 bpm 16ths. check out his dvd intense metal drumming. he plays from 200 til 280.
Listen to what may safely be written :Q
@zakakb i thought he was in all that remains and the bassist was from nile
I'm going to have my girl moment: he's freaking hot!! oh yeah great drummer to....
Kollias uses swivel technique, as Tim here does too. And I don't think any technique that enables you to play at such speeds can be called dumb.
one of the fastest drummer in the world :)
Flo Mounier plays some 300bpm 'hyperblasts' but he's unable to keep his volume up, consequence is that it doesn't sound impressive at all.

what are his descents?
is he not in vital remains anymore?
gk does 280bpm 16ths on his dvdB)
What i meant by normally was what you said.
@zakakb AND Vital Remains...
How do you plan to prove yourself about that?
is it pronounced "young"
He sure knows how to drive a stick
Respond to this video...i kan maby do between 200 bpm and 230 bpm but i get tire realy fast lol
First of all, it's thomas LANG!!! 2nd of all Portmoy? with the likes of Lang derek roddy tim yeung?? do you play drums?
This band rips it up live. Trust me the vocals are brutal throughout the whole show. Don't knock this band without getting off your ass and seeing them live.
whoo thats my name!!!lol
Dude low 250s is still fast as fuck
ok then you will soon (when you start listening more closely) know how impossible it is to put derek roddy/portnoy/lang and tim yeung in the same basket. I HAD to call you out on that! :D
cheers
Is he mexican american or what??
what the helL?? BTw do you like CoBjudgiong by teh name?
No man... Lord Marco can do 300 bpm 16ths... listen to apocalyptic feasting!!!
hell 240s is fast as fuck lol
essential salts is 250
George kollias mike mangini go over 280. Soon maybe I can too
so casual, "ummm, low 250's?"
at the end, drumming over 250bpm is total mess, it's tapping not playing (as George Kollias once said). You cant play about 280 with power that you can still reach at 230-240. So that was probably on Tim's mind...
George Kollias can do 280, it's incredable.. hes the only one known to do it. Normally anyway, as in, not heal toe, or some dumb technique.
'yeung' is more like people from Hong Kong..
By lookin at his name, i guess his dad is Chinese and mum is white, cuz Yeung is a chinese sur-name. i'm chinese

Who says a metal drummer can't have Jazz or Latin influences?!?!!
How can be inspired by Vinnie Colaiuta and Dave Weckl? XD
Dude Nile might do 268 quarter notes but no way in hell can anybody do sixtenth notes at 268!
Nile drummer do 286Bpm 1 leg
haha..
haha, cool, you got me. Anyway I like you better than the insulting one. You seem fun.
I think Keep on Kalessin's drummer is faster. His bassdrumming sounds like a heavy machinegun!!!
@zakakb and hate eternal!
@zakakb and hate eternal
he doesnt know anyone that can play 280 16th's??? he should check out the drummers of: the berserker, braindrill and such :P
well thats cool unless hes using triggers. which could possibly mean that his beaters are barely touching the drum head and to me thats cheating.
i think that Kollias has the greatest technique and Tim is the fastest...but both are great drummers:-)
i mean, he is a mix of white and ...? do u get me?
Dave Weckl and Vinnie Colaiuta? Those guys will be ashamed!
Damn he should have stayed with Decrepit Birth.
I don't know why thats funny but yes. He is asian. Well half asian.
behavbing like kids...
this interview put me to sleep. tim, we gotta go out and buy you a personality.
yea as joeys decent but highly overatted and travis is even more overatted
is it just me, or does tim seem a little reluctant to be interviewed? seems a little bashful.
