Can I recommend these open fingerings for the main chords in standard tuning: A: x-0-7-6-5-0 Aadd9: x-0-7-6-0-0 E: 0-11-9-9-0-0 Esus2: 0-9-9-9-0-0 Nice and easy to reach and move between, even with my short fat fingers, and sounds awesome. The E and Esus2 can be done with a three-string bar with your main finger. Then you only need to lift one finger on both the add9 and sus2 😀 The hardest part is the singing. Jimmy has a unique voice. An octave-below doesn't do it for me. But I can't hit the octave above, so who am I to criticise! 🤣
Yeah I like those voicings a lot and use them quite often (except for the Esus2, but I still like it!). Jimmy's voice is indeed unique, but personally I've always preferred Ian's voice. The end of Bow River always makes the hairs on my arms stand up.
@@OneChartguitarlessons100% agree about Mossie. I love that old cheese-fest, "Telephone Booth" and there used to be a guy on here years ago who nailed it, but he seems to be gone now. And I get a bit sick of hearing Khe Sahn all the time when Flame Trees and Bow River are clearly their best work. I have always loved this acoustic version of Bow River by the man himself: ua-cam.com/video/O32eWOVDRJM/v-deo.html I am a sucker for good acoustic takes.
This was an awesome refresher for me! I learned it years ago, tried to relearn it the other day. Watched your tutorial and my fingers went back to the chords like no time had lapsed - thanks!!!
I reckon the key in bridge goes to G major. The C major sounds like it wants to go back to G (IV to I) similar to the intro (A maj to Emaj). Would also explain the D major chord too.
Really enjoyed that lesson Matt. A lot going on with that song and a great test of chord knowledge. Your charts make it easy to follow though. Those sus variants are very cool. Great work👏👏👏
Thanks mate. I've always loved this song. You're right: it's more complex than you would think at first, and the way they modulate through those chords in the middle section and make it sound so seamless, always amazes me. Don Walker is a genius.
Haha. You are absolutely right. And I think on some level I kind of knew that. I may have been singing it that way my whole life. Glad you liked the lesson though!
Brilliant. We all have our flame trees moment. Left Aussie years ago but if I were to go back out west I’d look for her face.
Number three is never say her name.
Thank you so much ! You are a wonderful teacher. When our duo starts working I will be sure to flip you some $$ Cheers Brian " The Sandy Bottoms"
Cheers Brian. Good luck with the gigs!
A great lesson for a great song. Thanks!
Thanks Adam. It is an awesome song, right? What other Chisel song would you like to see done on my channel?

Absolutely awesome mate.. appreciate you taking the time to show some cool little tricks as well.
No problem 👍 I'm glad you liked it Adam, and found it useful. Thanks for commenting.
Lovely with the open voicings. Just found your channel. Awesome. Subscribed.
Awesome, thanks Ian!

You’re totally welcome, BJ. It’s such a great song, right?

This song seems to just flow so nicely. It's also nice to be playing a little bit further up the neck for once lmao
