Elon Musk made headlines last week when he announced the first product from his startup company, Neuralink. It's a brain implant that will potentially allow quadriplegics to control phones, computers, and robotic arms. But that's just the tip of the iceberg.

@@ganondorf5573 Medicine defines death when the brain stops all electrical activity. I think you "soft" die every time you go to sleep and when u wake up it just picks up from the last save state, like a computer hibernation or sleep state. Keeps just enough juice running to keep time and run other processes. However if you get knocked out that part doesnt work, your breathing might stop and lets not talk about the rest. You dont even feel time passage. Coma can be different for each person. One feels like no time passed others recall everything thats said to them. Its much more unsettling to think about death being a daily part of our lives, instead of just rare instances where you get totally k.od or actually die.

Unfortunately, the world has been deceived into thinking that the Holy Bible is false. I urge you to not take anything tech related like this into your body. Especially, not the coming vaccine and ID dot. If the Bible was a lie, then how come so much of what it says will happen thousandths of years in the future is happening now? How can a book that is said to be a fairy tale be so accurate and true? This Neuralink is a tool of Satan. I know that you're heart aches for cool tech. But do earnestly consider the consequences of taking a "helping hand" from the Devil. It's not worth it. Consider reading God's WORD. To get to know what it is you are to do for Him as you are.

@@purpleduck3494 There is no such thing as God or Satan. Nothing the Bible said ever came true nor it will ever be. Predictable stuff like locust swarms, diseases, etc., were sure prevalent in the past and easy to predict so, people thought that it happened because it was written in the Bible or other religious books. Now we know that there is credible Science behind it and the reasons can be traced back to its roots.
Do you remember 'The Great Disappointment' where the Church and the Christians believed that the World was going to end and it never happened? Little did they know that that was a complex and idiotic prediction with no evidence, not like your yearly diseases and pest problems. People were stunned to find out that nothing came true since it was obvious of course but, they were blinded by faith on fictional stuff. Sadly, people still believe in these idiotic statements and claims written by Bronze age idiots who didn't know that the Earth revolved around the Sun and feared the Eclipse.
I urge you to stop spreading misinformation and being a misinformed individual yourself especially thinking that vaccines are bad. That's idiocy on a dangerous level. Did you know that Telephone was said to be the Devil's line and the Internet as Devil's work? But, here you are. It's always a problem before for religious folks until they try it themselves and realizes their stupidity.
I claim that the average temperature of the Earth will increase by 2 degrees and sea levels will rise. This prediction will come true obviously because of scientific evidence but, if I said that a century or two ago let alone 1000s of years ago I would have been either a prophet or a headless individual due to the courtesy of an ignorant and stupid belief system called 'Religion'

As a person with progressive cerebral degeneration and peripheral neuropathy the idea of neurolink excites me so much. Just being able to gain back even some of my motor control, speech fluency and balance would be such a game changer with being able to regain lost sensation in my legs (I feel nothing below the knees) and temperature sensation in my hands (not very safe and will progress to the loss of all sensation like me legs sooner rather than later). It could take me from my wheelchair back to assisted walking, maybe even unassisted walking, it could halt things that I’m only just starting to loose like my ability to swallow properly, so so much. It can’t give me back the brain that has already gone (best description I have been able to come up with it that my cerebellum is melting away) but with the ability to help mould new connections it could be re wired to if nothing else stop my progression. It’s all so exciting. Am I likely to see the fruits of neurolink’s labour in my (limited) life time, unlikely, I’m 42 now and won’t live to old age but my condition is genetic, my children don’t show signs but what’s to say what the future holds for them, for their children not to mention about all the other people suffering of there with similar conditions, mine is a rarity (if not even unique) among an already rare group of conditions but there are still thousands out there with conditions similar to me own and so many, many more with other brain effecting conditions, this tech could help millions of millions of people before you even get on to the things such a system could do to augment a healthy brain. I do think this is the future of personal tech.

Maybe after we've all been absorbed into the Matrix we won't really care or, after a while, even _know_ on an instinctual level what a fart smells like. Like, we might be aware that at some point in the past humans had these squishy, smelly bodies and that, yes, there was one particular orifice through which mostly solid waste products were excreted and which occasionally emitted odiferous gases, but will that really _mean_ anything to an entity that has transcended physicality? For that matter, what about any other emotion? What about the "butterflies in the stomach" of love, the solar plexus burning feeling of rage, or the "lump in the throat" of sadness? Of course these could be replicated in a purely virtual environment, but as we lose touch with our physical beings, what will it even _mean_ ? What is a "throat" or "heart" or "stomach" even _for_ in a hyperreal existence? I'm afraid that many could end up like those mice in that Rat Park experiment where they had opiates on demand by simply pushing a button. Maybe people could end up like those mice, just doing nothing except repeatedly pushing a pleasure button with all nuance, specifics, and setting/context long forgotten or even necessary. What is humor even when you can just press a "funny button" set at "maximum hilarity"? What is pleasure even in a purely virtual world? How do you code a simulation of an endorphin release in a living brain that doesn't even exist anymore? Perhaps we will still need a hunk of biomatter to interact with to even feel _anything_ ? We'll be hyper-advanced beings all hooked up to a quivering hunk of brain that is in the throws of ecstasy. I don't know, man. I'm excited for, as Jonas Buyle said above, "a brave new world", too, but I'm curious and cautious to see how things will develop as time goes on.

      According to the CDC:
The Epstein-Barr virus is the most common cause of infectious mononucleosis, but _other viruses_ can also cause mono. Epstein-Barr can cause other illnesses and complications, such as Guillain-Barré syndrome. However, people can develop Guillain-Barré after having the flu or other infections. This kind of technology is going to change a lot of things. Those changes can cause problems, and we need to be aware of that and deal with them appropriately. One thing I think we should definitely do is demand that smart devices be able to work without connecting to the internet. It is frustrating when I can't use my computer for 20 minutes because Windows needs to update. Not being able to use your wheelchair for 20 minutes (or longer if the update fails and corrupts the memory) is not acceptable. We need to start designing our systems to be redundant to disconnection, even long term disconnection. The same should apply to things like smart homes and other appliances too.
There will be other problems we aren't thinking about right now, I don't think the possibility of those problems should stop us from moving forward, I just think it is important to be aware of the consequences of our technology and deal with it in the best way we can.

Waste of money really, at some point Internet will be free and available everywhere but for now majority of it functions just fine without a connection, same with Windows updates, you can simply disable them completely and not worry about it.
