- In this video we take a look at a 4 cylinder Altima that just doesn't want to bang on all cylinders. We go through a few different testing techniques to come to a diagnosis, and get this thing sailing back down the road. Thanks for watching!
You remind me of a young ScannerDanner. I see a bright future!!!
Just had a tow guy tell me today that this was what was going on with my Altima. So glad I googled it because this was a great video thanks for posting 👍🏼
Excellent video!!! Good to see repair being done without all the expensive tools and gadgets. Just good thought process and basic tools.
Excellent video, thanks for the info. Electrical issues are some of the most misdiagnosed there are, damn near impossible to find a mechanic who is also good at electrical troubleshooting...so I tend to do it myself. But you.. I would trust.
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much!
Thank you!
That was an awesome and informative video. I have the same exact year, engine and problem. No one - including the dealer has been able to figure it since no engine light comes on. The car runs like crap! and has gotten worse the more the dealership messed with it. after watching this, I am going to get the test light and check out the coils myself. Thank you. I hope this solves my issue as well.
How did it go
So nobody has replaced spark plugs or coils they are cheap and easy to replace 4 each also cleaning the map sensor and replacing air filter may help easy to do and cheap before replacing anything expensive
love that simple leak testing on the coil boot! Thanks for sharing! I thought injector at first for sure.
Didn't finish the video yet and I already put my like..Lol
Was wondering where you been, glad to see you back.
This dude is a certified genius if you didn't notice.
i can buy a set of 4 for under 30 bucks. replacing them all is a no-brainer. subbed.
Good to see a honest mechanic
You mad this way more difficult than you needed
Thanks for not cussing, even when you were shocked. :)
Good video.
Great to see you back Joe!
Thank you for your work and dedication. I truly hope you're doing well health wise. Friendly greetings.
You are very welcome friend, I appreciate your care and support! I'm doing just fine!
Why would'nt you just swap the coils to see if the misfire follows the coil? I really liked the trouble shooting. Nice video!!
You are the best always i wish you were here in erbil so i could open a business for you. You doing your job just like the way i want every body do there job right
The shock feels good...😂😂😂 ..and it's good for you...
Geez wonder what taht messy bare wiring and coils are all about. My wife's 2010 Nissan Rogue has original coils at 195k miles...same 2.5L engine.
Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics, I have no clue. The only thing I can think of was someone was poking holes in wire or something!
Great info... Thanks, I learned a lot..👍👍
Can you pull the grey plug off the coil instead of pulling coil to see if there is an engine change or do you have to pull entire coil and boot out while it still being hooked to grey connector to check it?
So you replace the coils. Spark plugs and all the wire arnes or just the exits
This just happened to my 2008, same coil in the same exact spot near bottom of boot. Replaced and fixed the misfire. But, I get what feels like another misfire while driving under load below 2000rpm. Over 2k and it smooths out. Any advice? I was possibly thinking clogged injectors?
Thanks for the video, man i would really like a vantage pro about now.
Definitely go for the pro over the ultra. I wish I had gotten a pro instead, because the ultra has given me a ton of issues and there isnt an internal ammeter function.
What does the white odometer icon mean??? I have that icon lit up on my car.
I just changed the plugs and haven't been getting any misfire codes since
They say most of the time thats the issue.
Long time hopefully every thing is good.
Changing the coil fixed it? Also did you change the plugs? I have this EXACT problem.
Not trying to be a smart-ass but what's the difference between a dead misfire and regular misfire.
Just change that damm coil man. #2
He's demonstrating
songbird372 P I don’t think he is.
He could have done that, However, his fix will last much longer for the customer.. and its pretty common knowledge that if one coil is going bad its not far from the others starting to give trouble so replacing boots was a good call if not replacing all 4 coils which is what I would have done. But he tried to save the customer as much as he could and still get the wires replaced which would have become an issue very soon from what they looked like...👍👍 all in all he did more preventive action than anything and the customer can drive on with no issues for a long time now..
Where did you find the coil connectors?
Bout time 😁😉
New subscriber....who makes the orange inline spark tester you was using???.
ketcamaro, Tool aid 23970 is the part number my friend.
Ty for the quick response...
Nice job
great video thanks
Good Vid man, and like Keith said bout time..lol...
I got the 1st cylinder misfireon my 2005 but i unplug the first coul and the Rpm dropped a bit and the sound so it's not the that cylinder?
It’s possible it could be misfiring. As the ignition coil could be dropping off at a higher rpm.
Very nice.
don't know why they didn't replace all 4 coils and plugs before when they swapped one. let me guess, 130K mile on factory plugs and they were miffed as to why it was killing coils ;)
Beats me bud 😕
Wow he didn’t have to replace all the boots and all the spark plugs he just did that for no reason he just showed us that it ran fine w only one coil being fixed just goes to show how mechanics will make issues out of thin air
Ignition coils are cheap, if one is going bad then it's probably time to replace the other ones too. You'd be the dummy who cheaps out and only replaces one coil then have misfire issues again when your other coils go bad.
@@basedgod4233 and complain why it’s messing up again when they “just fixed it”
Ppl say just change it. But That's guys just looking for a pay check. Not really getting into there profession
Toyota
man is very bad, you have been searching for a very long time, you have passes for the second cylinder, stop the coil on the third cylinder, if the passes went to the third one all !! problem in the coil. two minutes maximum. And you're looking for 25 minutes. why these unnecessary measurements of the primary and current ?? I see all the American diagnosticians on this principle work, that they measure it, a lot of unnecessary movements do. There is the same common sense in the end
There are 2 kinds of people. Diagnosticians that find the issue and replace only the wrong part (or repair). And the swapping morons who assume or guess.
This is the first "Altima Repair" channel to which I have subscribed. Not only is your understanding of bleeding-edge automotive electronics very thorough, but you also understand the value of "old school" hacks, like using that neon continuity tester just to check for leaks on the boot!
Well done. Thank you.
He sure does come across as being extremely intelligent.....
Thanks
I’m a master tech , I quite enjoyed your diagnosis process. Thank you for giving techs a good name. Salud , my friend!!!!
Thanks Shia Labeouf, really good information video regarding ignition system and trouble shouting.
Excellent tutorial information and I’m learning something new from your ideas Thanks and keep up good work
Fuckk yeahh ur the man thank u but i don't have those tools to check (snap on) jajaja the alligator check works for me
That's a term that my husband tells me all the time, "The thingamajig" is bad so we need to replace it.
is it possible to fry the ECU when you disconnect and connect ignition coils? I have a Nissan like this and what I do is: Unscrew the ignition coil and lift the ignition coil up until the spark finds plug well or something to arc.
This was really good ! Im having misfire issues.. Service light is blinking..On 2012 Altima 130k.. Mabye its the plugs mabye its not..my dad is on the way here.. With the proper tools to change them out.. Hopefully thats the only issue .An easy fix..Fingers crossed..
Update please, was he able to fix?
AWesome video. Would have loved to see you changing the coil wire connectors though. That would have been a great portion of the video.
The inline spark tester you used is great. Good job on using the inductive pickup against the tester instead of directly on the coil boot. Do you think the spark ark from the leaking boot could damage the scope?
He is meticulous no doubt. However he is wasting too much time going around the bush. Replace all coils to include the worn out wiring harness and be done with it. The indication of a bad harness is evident and clear. For this car to be reliable the wiring harness must be replaced. Old Volvo cars had this issue. If this is a customers car a half partial repair will Have the customer back in the shop later complaining about the same issue.
Great video. Finding the leaks with the test light was sweet! I'm curious, though, you were wondering what the primary waveform should look like. Why did you not take a primary waveform of one of the other known good coils?
Damb I wish mechanics were as thorough as u bro, keep it up 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
yes enjoyed your video, btw good to see you back.
Great video man, thanks a lot for sharing your troubleshooting! Learned a lot
Nice video, i just subscribed.
I'm having a misfire issue with my 2012 Altima right now. I replaced the spark plugs, the Mass Air Flow sensor and its still misfiring.
I guess I'll replace the coils next.
MrSoccerpues did the new coils work
Dont be a parts changer
I’ve changed all 3 , and it’s still misfiring . Also a new throttle body
@@rolandomaldonado2904 I found the problem. You have to bring it to the dealer, they have to reset the computer.
MrSoccerpues would your rpms lag making your car to jerk a bit ? As if it was losing power ?
Thank you shai lebouff.
Something similar going on with my car anyway to talk ?
Kudos to your video, THANK YOU!
Why does my car shake when I start it
Trying to see if my mechanic is open tomorrow. Bought all 4 ignition coils. Was going to try and do it myself but seen the boot connection to my coils are damaged like in this vehicle. I hope this is my problem, my car sounds like in the beginning of video the way it is putts and shakes with engine light on.
electrical tape on the boot
You are very knowledgeable. My 2012 Altima is misfiring. I just wish I had a technician like you around to check it out. I am in the electrical field myself and follow very well your explanation but doing the repair requires equipment and experience that I don´t have. Thanks for the lesson, at least I can have a technical conversation with whoever is going to do the job. 10/30/2021
How would you do this diagnostic for a car (ex. NIssan Versa/Sentra) that has the air intake above the coils? My Cube/Versa recently had a misfire after I have replaced the plugs with some ebay NGK. Believe they were fakes so replaced them with some expensive NGK ($16/pop) from Amazon (seller were NGK), hopefully real this time. Ran well for a week, then misfire came back on the same cyl(#1). Don't think it was a coil issue as it was swapped with another location. I took out the plugs and inspected them. The cyl 1 well has no oil, but the #1 plug tip was full of oil.
Because all the cyl well didn't have oil, I don't think it is the valve cover gasket.
My car has been down for several weeks, please advise.
this guy is good
good video welcome back
Yes I have a 2007 Altima 2.5 and when I press gas in park the car seems like it wants to cut off and loses power. While driving as long as I’m on flat road the car drives but loses all power while going up hills. Any thought? Thanks
If you remove the bolts from the coils you can start the engine then lift each coil to see if the engine speed changes. You can also watch the coil pack spark from the end to the side of the spark plug tool. That is fast and easy. You can swap the coils to see if it's the coil or the signal going to it. There are three wires. One is 12v, one is ground and one is the signal from the computer that powers the power transistor to fire the coil. I think the center wire is the signal from the computer.
mines throwing P0301 code misfire cylinder 1. But not losing coolant ..I changed spark plugs and the coil for that cylinder but code came back weeks later.
Very nice diagnostics Joe and good to see you back! Try not working so hard as you look pretty tired :)
After all videos this video help, me i got the code number 6
I pull plug out an same as this guy's plug a hole in rubber I had extra one put it in an dam it's perfect now thanks for all help
I just changed motor An timing chain all install an today first start thanks a lot I thought I did chain wrong 2006 nissan altima 3.5
Bro I want to thank you so much I watch your video and save a lot of money and fix my car I want to thank you very much I really learned a lot and thanks to you I was able to fix my car on my own very easy I don’t have no mechanical skills but thanks to your video save me 700 almost $1000

The woozy break appropriately extend because hail endogenously land down a well-made stew. well-to-do, hoc foam
My 07 altima keeps on burning the coil boot, what could be the issue? Could it be the alrernator or bad ground?
You're brave brother. After the first shock, I would have stopped touching that coil. Anyway, where could I get one of those orange adaptors?
having the same problem, how much would a job like this go for?
Excellent test. All analysis is to my understanding. Thumbs up.
He is Hott and he knows his stuff I’ll let you fix my car anytime guy
I know this is an old video but what under hood light is that you are using
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Very interesting diagnosis and use of the test light to expose the fault with the boot! Thanks!
First video of yours I have watched. I bought an 05 Altima that has what I what I believe is an ignition issue, which was how I found your video. Very informative and you obviously are very great and what you do and are very knowledgeable. I am looking forward to subscribing and watching your past and future videos. Thank you !
Nice job. Next time you do ignition secondary with the extension lead try the clamp on style ignition adapter, might give you a better picture of the secondary and you won't have to fight with the position of the pickup. Just be aware though that due to the extension lead it will make the level of the spark kv increase. How are you liking the Vantage Ultra? Worth the dough or not?
busjockey1 nice tip! I hate the ultra, tons of problems and functionality issues, not to mention poor battery life. It freezes randomly and is all around frustrating. Id trade it for a pro in a heartbeat.
Triangle Diagnostics Get a 2 channel Pico with a Acer 10 and 1 Tablet, cheaper and a better scope. Make a case for it and you have a hand held Pico.
I like that idea, reminds me of the 2 series Pico Ivan showcased in one of his vids, did pretty good I'd say!
Triangle Diagnostics That's where I got the idea, 🙂 I am planning to do this myself because my heritage Vantage went poof.🙂 You going to Vision?
Nope unfortunately not, hopefully next year!
What did you do about the fraid wires at the connectors
Thank you so much been trying to nail that down
Thanks for the info, I was able to fix my car 👍
How much does this job typically cost?
Yeah that hei impulse would hurt a little. I deliberately taken a little off a points ignition but, avoided the high energy. You can see it clearly on older distributor ignition coming from the spark plug wire to what ever it's arching to.
Years ago I would deliberately load a points condenser and leave it on the radiator cover for someone to pick it up and discharge it.
Best video ever
I could tell how many KV,s it was by how loud I screamed ! HAHA
Nice video!! I learn a few things.
I thought it was a model T idling when I wasn't looking :))
It sounds like a Model T-Ford
Great diagnostic,I would like to buy those tools, would you mind sharing the link
Good job/video👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
