  • In this video we take a look at a 4 cylinder Altima that just doesn't want to bang on all cylinders. We go through a few different testing techniques to come to a diagnosis, and get this thing sailing back down the road. Thanks for watching!

    Excellent video, thanks for the info. Electrical issues are some of the most misdiagnosed there are, damn near impossible to find a mechanic who is also good at electrical troubleshooting...so I tend to do it myself. But you.. I would trust.

    That was an awesome and informative video. I have the same exact year, engine and problem. No one - including the dealer has been able to figure it since no engine light comes on. The car runs like crap! and has gotten worse the more the dealership messed with it. after watching this, I am going to get the test light and check out the coils myself. Thank you. I hope this solves my issue as well.

      So nobody has replaced spark plugs or coils they are cheap and easy to replace 4 each also cleaning the map sensor and replacing air filter may help easy to do and cheap before replacing anything expensive

    Can you pull the grey plug off the coil instead of pulling coil to see if there is an engine change or do you have to pull entire coil and boot out while it still being hooked to grey connector to check it?

    This just happened to my 2008, same coil in the same exact spot near bottom of boot. Replaced and fixed the misfire. But, I get what feels like another misfire while driving under load below 2000rpm. Over 2k and it smooths out. Any advice? I was possibly thinking clogged injectors?

      He could have done that, However, his fix will last much longer for the customer.. and its pretty common knowledge that if one coil is going bad its not far from the others starting to give trouble so replacing boots was a good call if not replacing all 4 coils which is what I would have done. But he tried to save the customer as much as he could and still get the wires replaced which would have become an issue very soon from what they looked like...👍👍 all in all he did more preventive action than anything and the customer can drive on with no issues for a long time now..

    Wow he didn’t have to replace all the boots and all the spark plugs he just did that for no reason he just showed us that it ran fine w only one coil being fixed just goes to show how mechanics will make issues out of thin air

      Ignition coils are cheap, if one is going bad then it's probably time to replace the other ones too. You'd be the dummy who cheaps out and only replaces one coil then have misfire issues again when your other coils go bad.

    man is very bad, you have been searching for a very long time, you have passes for the second cylinder, stop the coil on the third cylinder, if the passes went to the third one all !! problem in the coil. two minutes maximum. And you're looking for 25 minutes. why these unnecessary measurements of the primary and current ?? I see all the American diagnosticians on this principle work, that they measure it, a lot of unnecessary movements do. There is the same common sense in the end

    The inline spark tester you used is great. Good job on using the inductive pickup against the tester instead of directly on the coil boot. Do you think the spark ark from the leaking boot could damage the scope?

  • @luismrodriguez7360
    @luismrodriguez7360 4 місяці тому

    He is meticulous no doubt. However he is wasting too much time going around the bush. Replace all coils to include the worn out wiring harness and be done with it. The indication of a bad harness is evident and clear. For this car to be reliable the wiring harness must be replaced. Old Volvo cars had this issue. If this is a customers car a half partial repair will Have the customer back in the shop later complaining about the same issue.

    How would you do this diagnostic for a car (ex. NIssan Versa/Sentra) that has the air intake above the coils? My Cube/Versa recently had a misfire after I have replaced the plugs with some ebay NGK. Believe they were fakes so replaced them with some expensive NGK ($16/pop) from Amazon (seller were NGK), hopefully real this time. Ran well for a week, then misfire came back on the same cyl(#1). Don't think it was a coil issue as it was swapped with another location. I took out the plugs and inspected them. The cyl 1 well has no oil, but the #1 plug tip was full of oil.
    Because all the cyl well didn't have oil, I don't think it is the valve cover gasket.
    My car has been down for several weeks, please advise.

  • @michaelbarrett8803
    @michaelbarrett8803 Рік тому

    If you remove the bolts from the coils you can start the engine then lift each coil to see if the engine speed changes. You can also watch the coil pack spark from the end to the side of the spark plug tool. That is fast and easy. You can swap the coils to see if it's the coil or the signal going to it. There are three wires. One is 12v, one is ground and one is the signal from the computer that powers the power transistor to fire the coil. I think the center wire is the signal from the computer.

    Nice job. Next time you do ignition secondary with the extension lead try the clamp on style ignition adapter, might give you a better picture of the secondary and you won't have to fight with the position of the pickup. Just be aware though that due to the extension lead it will make the level of the spark kv increase. How are you liking the Vantage Ultra? Worth the dough or not?
