There's a videa idea: The history of first 8 star FC. I think the story would be quite interesting, I remember rrtyui trying for it in 2014, and I'm interesting if the difficulty change had influenced it any way.
A few words from someone who watched OWC 2017 maniacally + absorbed literally everything that could be seen about the Polish team. Some information from behind the scenes. First of all, in 2017 there was no pressure on the Polish team to "win" or "achieve something" for one reason - they were already once, in 2016. Really, both players and the Polish community really thought that Poles could be quite calm in TOP3 (and maybe win the whole tournament?). And then they played against China at one of the most unfair mappools in the history of Osu tournaments in general .... Therefore, a year later there was no strange trashtalk or laughs in the Polish fandom - players calmed down the rest of the community and approached the matches quite seriously. For example, see how well they played for Austria and Brazil, without letting go. (Or when they lost a year later because of this, but let's skip that ...) Secondly, the Polish team consisted of eight "functional" players. There was no problem that someone did not pass screening, there was no picking a friend to fill the gaps ... Just eight great players, each with a specific role in the team. Also for the first time in history, team tryouts were made, for 3 places out of eight. Third, Poles began to use tactics. Take a look at the game against Great Britain, for example. What was chosen? Poles banned Kirby MIX, Brits - Talent Shreeder + HD. Now guess what maps the Poles could not find the team on. You’re right, for Kirby MIX and Shreeder! As WilchQ confirmed after the match, they specifically let their opponents think that they had a strong line-up on this map (Rafis and Piggey as speed, WWW as old mapping, Alien as a gimmick player ...) and so ruled out two weak maps at once. And it really helped them (7-5 at the end…) Finally… well, the Poles were extremely lucky. Not only against the United States - I remember well the community's relief seeing that Poland and the United States are on the completely opposite side of the ladder (and they will see each other soonest in the final stage) or when the classic Polish problem, i.e. "Don’t FC maps because why don’t let the opponents make a comeback?" did not prevent them from outplaying Great Britain.

Late comment but downplaying Poland made no sense. In 2013, 2014, and 2015 they finished with a 3rd 2nd and 3rd. They clearly were a consistent/top team but never got that win whether it was nerves or just needing a few extra players to push them for the 1st place.
