This is what I'm doing, everyone in my husband's family is pissed. 🤣 waaa "can't get them anything!"
We told them we wanted gender neutral because we weren't going crazy on gender specific items when they are born anyway.
      Scoffed "I'm not doing that!"
So now they have resorted to buying boy stuff without knowing the gender because "its always a boy" 🤦‍♀️🙄

I don't know. It's sounds harmless as long as you don't do it in a middle flammable field. It's just something fun and memorable to celebrate a soon to be born kid. Though I can imagine some people are crossing a line between a fun gathering with friends and a show of stunt.
Not sure what is distasteful with it. In a lot of cultures there are traditions and folklore about guessing the gender of the kid. People are always curious about it. Why not revel it in a fun way?

Esp since the first gender reveal by that blogger was to celebrate that she had kept her pregnancy long enough for the fetus' sex to be determined (she had a series of miscarriages before this). The celebration was less intended to be "LOOK AT ME AND WHAT BITS MY CHILD HAS" and more "I've made it far enough along in the pregnancy without complications that we know the biological sex of my child"

My wife is a schoolteacher and did a sort of gender reveal party for her class while pregnant with our first child. After readying the class, she had her assistant toss a single, pink balloon out across the room. The children had mixed reactions but mostly cheered. Unsurprisingly, no one was hurt and the school did not burn to the ground.

I was in a Mental Health Residential when the fire from the last fire was burning. Typically, they let the patients out for outdoor time. But during this time, many of them were having asthma attacks, some of us were getting sick from the ash getting in our lungs. It brought down the mood over all. The typical stay was a month in these places. And it was hard not being able to see the sky and go out during the night to see the stars, which was a huge coping skill for me. The sky was a blood orange at times. The grass was covered in gray ashes that had been carried from the fire. But my struggles weren't nearly as harsh as the ones that lost everything and even their lives in the fire. Thank you for the brave people who fought that fire and kept everyone they could safe.

Just because you want to tell them what your having doesn't make you a bad person for doing it. My whole family was blowing my phone up before we left the drs office waiting to know. Them calling first wanting to be the first one to know it's not just narcissistic thing but it's also for them especially the grandparents. Not to mention my mother in law passed away before my son was born so she wanted to know what it was gonna be. Is that wrong to give a woman dying of cancer basically her last wish? These people in these comments are hateful and say you're a bad person for wanting to do something with your family. Especially if someone is having trouble having one like we did. These people in these comments are hateful and talking about people like me because I wanted to tell my family what I'm having. @@fordshojoe8080 Hey, if you weren't one of the ones throwing a big party to try and one up others on the internet, then I don't think you're a bad person at all! There's nothing wrong with wanting to know these things; my comment was a little more bitter than I really intended simply because I've lived through a few more wildfires now than most people really ought to... I hadn't meant to make a sweeping generalization of *everyone* who's excited for that sort of thing, and I apologize if it came off that way.
The reason people in the comments are so angry about this is due to the overwhelming damage some gender reveal parties have caused, but those parties in particular were always done in the name of making something bigger and grander than the parties that came before theirs. I.E. going from cakes, to party poppers, to outright making homemade explosives. It's a purely narcissistic thing, a sort of internet fad chasing "arms race"; for those sorts it's not really the "gender" part that concerns them, rather the "reveal", a chance to do something big, expensive, and showy.
In that sense, I can guarantee you're not included among those people, as well as others out there like you. Nothing wrong with wanting to know, and nothing wrong with being excited about it!

I agree. And thank you for your service. Allow me to be devils advocate, none of these fools thought a fire would occur and had no intention to harm people or property. Culpable, are the products/companies made for this one-time, useless activity, and the many people who glamourized it, made it seem harmless. One reason I support imprisonment, is so that a person isn't destroyed by guilt and shamed, one must feel they were punished for a loss of life, property if they are to move on. But, I don't believe one or more people should be forced into suicidal feelings by the entire community. Your comrade perished needlessly, but please acknowledge, it's a dangerous career, and whether he perished by a preventable wildfire or a nature caused one, the results are the same, and anyone of you could have same fate. Though I respect your courage for battling fire. Again, I am playing devils advocate. But, I agree: punishment and prevention is necessary. Thank you. This is my only serious comment on here. The gender reveal fire as well as the others that happened at the same time produced so much smoke that the area where I live quite literally had some of the worst air quality on the planet while this was going on. The smoke filled our valley and was so bad the schools, which were just starting to reopen as pandemic restrictions lessened, were shut down because of it. We’ve had many previous incidences of smoke so thick it completely obscured the mountains around us, but this was the worst we’ve had since my family has lived in the area. It turned the sky brown and the sun red; one morning I woke up and looked outside to see that the sunrise looked very similar to those synthwave sun images. It was possible to look directly at the sun for a long time without your eyes hurting. We had to stay inside all the time - no evening walks or relaxing in the backyard - and even then the smell of smoke was pervasive and ever-present. It was horrible. My dad and my sister had it even worse as they both have asthma, and my dad’s lungs took a long time to heal, which was only compounded when he got covid later on (he’s doing fine now, thankfully). The fact that all this was the result of a gender reveal gone wrong was and is beyond sickening to me.

@@manifestationsofasort UA-cam is the only social media I engage in; if it’s even considered that. In my opinion, the kind of people who do the stupid things of this video are those who indulge.

The 2020 gender reveal fire was awful; everyone in my family were evacuated because of it.
The effects of that fire still linger in the local hiking community; a lot of hikers get lost because of the burned out areas.

It is amazing how easy it is to start a wildfire. Any open flame no matter how large or small and a little wind and there you have it. You could probably do a general a vid on wildfires due to carelessness.

I’m pregnant and couldn’t be less interested in a gender reveal party. We’re keeping the gender quiet until birth. I just don’t want all the fuss.

Yeah, my cousin just kinda casually announced it at the baby shower. She didn't see the point in making a big fuss over it. They put a lot more focus on baby-theming everything. Well, her sister did. I suspect the mother probably wouldn't have cared all that much about the games and party stuff. She just wanted a cake and to see a bunch of friends/family members that she hadn't seen in months because she and her husband moved about 3 states away.

I like that the escalation of these disasters implies that this will just continue until someone starts WWIII with a gender reveal gone wrong.

I think the creator didn't want to give the attention-desperate narcissistic parents any more attention. That they should receive from the sheriff's office.
He deserves to be honored as the heroic person whose life was taken by the parents-to-be.
