That would be fun, maybe pick a model and say u can add 3d filament printed parts, paint, and maybe a very small budget for other parts, and invite everyone to join and display the builds on a website
Hi Josh, can you please cover the Sparc Drive SA10 axles in next week's news or separately. These seem to be very interesting from an engineering and control point of view. Cheers and keep up the great work.
Most expensive item I've bought was the plane ticket to last year's Axialfest West from Europe. It was worth it. The ticket, rental car, BnB and groceries for the rest of that week together were cheaper. 2nd is a close call between a Castle Mamba X ESC or a Spektrum DX5C radio.
John does it right, old school advertising by word of mouth, one does not have to be in the hobby long, eventually the word "HOLMES HOBBY " will be all it takes plus he can keep them dollar's that would be advertising to make the true quality stuff he does! Much respect to John !!
not really a single part, but set of KMC wheels, proline insert's, krawlers, trencher rings, hubs, brass rings for front, scale hardware, vp tools for the hardware, scale centercaps and lockouts, all in one purchase, youch!
I think my Futaba radio is my single most expensive RC non-rig item. SO WORTH IT. Much more comfortable, and much more control than RTR and cheap radios offer. Plus the tune-ability right from the radio is great.
My friend breaks my chops , 35 years rcing and use these cheap radios , the receivers cost more than some of the radios I use though 😂 I have 3pv it does feel nice but biggest pita , the 225 futaba $ probably 300$ now is probably the best radio you can buy without buying the futaba top of the line , I was waiting to see performance of that new radio master , I know one UA-camr went back to futaba after binding all his cars to radio master guy .
7pm what you have ? I feel like I finally buy one and new one will come out lol tbh the tactic is one of my favorite radios , the simplicity, the fact that if I drop it or decide to play in the rain 🌧️ it’s no big deal, also the performance of course, I be done running by time I got 7pm set up 😂
When I see people with loads of transmitters (personal use only) it kills me haha. I had a Spektrum DX4S for about 10 years which I thought was the best, then I bought a Futaba 7PXR. Probably the best RC purchase I've made since 2003 lol
@@RcPlayer-tt2vw I’m actually running a 4PM plus. But it does everything I need it to! Really easy (once you figure out the process) to set up 3- position channels for dig, winch, etc. and the 4WS mixing works well too with multiple options of how to use it.
Shapeways is a Dutch company originaly. The Dutch part is already bancrupt. Now the US part is facing the same. Shapeways once was a Philips company. What is interesting is that the original founders that left Shapeways over 10 years ago. I read that they did a attempt to save Shapeways from bankruptcy by trying to buy Shapeways. But there was not enough time. It is a shame as also I have a Shapeways store. But prices went up too much.
Waiting for someone rich famous who also has passion for RC . We start seeing 14k servos and gearboxes instead of brass 😂 , I remember when kyosho did a platinum edition in 80s but metal really wasn’t platinum
16:02 _What is the most expensive RC item you've bought that wasn't a complete car?_ Capo SIXE1 Samurai roof rack + add-ons and rear bumper + add-ons. Roof rack consists of mounting posts + rack + light bar + halogen roof lights + light turning arm + awning - each sold separately. All of these items, except for the awning are unique and not usable elsewhere. Back rack consists of rear bumper + trailer hitch + license plate mount + swinging spare tire and jerry can rack + spare tire + jerry can - again, each sold separately. The hitch, and the back rack are only compatible with this particular bumper and can't be used elsewhere.
Man these purple riot’s are absolutely fantastic!! Look great with the delta rings. Was hoping for a kit, but I got another blue fordyce which I’m cool with, I’ll find something to stuff in!!! Probably a fourth buggy!!!🤣😉Thank the girls and guys for another great promotion
I like this channel, I never feel like the same old “you’re not going to keep up with the hobby if yo don’t ungrade……..”. This is just a fun channel with no pressure to be cool.
It is so hard for creators to sell independently, the places that support that really take their cut and the profit goes bye bye. So if the company makes money, the creators don't, or charge too much and can't sell anything.
Most expensive single item I've purchased was probably a Castle XLX2/2028 1100kv combo for my XMaxx, and in close 2nd a full set of front and rear tandem true dually machined aluminum wheels from H-Tech for my TRX6 Hauler.
I really like Spektrum stuff. I've had great luck with their motors, ESC's, batteries, chargers, and radios. Judging by looks and what's said their motors and esc's are rebranded Hobbywing and again I've had great luck with Hobbywing. Their batteries are pricey but very convenient in their ecosystem.
Technically it's 2 items but I just bought a Max 4 650kv Hobbywing combo for a M2C Mega Kraton build. It was nearly $900 tax and all. It's the most I've spent for anything that isn't a complete vehicle.
$200 on a battery charger is my most expensive single item that wasn't a RC (SCX6 if u were wondering), but for 4 channel 400w ac /1000w dc charger $200 was well worth it
I been buying HRTC it’s not the best brand or quality compared to top of line chargers but it’s also 400w duo I think it’s like 140 , no other charger has touch screen that’s color and can see balance and test all the cells I went through one but it was on 24/7 for better part of a year constantly changing two batteries
If do buy hrtc make sure get the top of line one and you will be amazed , I realized I’d have to spend 400 to come close to the features and then be more complicated
I support the idea of a WPL build-off. Make the D14 a crawler. Was looking into going to Axialfest and then realized you have to bring Axial trucks only. Dang it! I'd love a CJ-7 but not enough to buy once just so I can go LOL. I think the most expensive single item I've bought is a Traxxas Velineon VXL-6s system for my E-Maxx. And although it's been fine, most people say I shouldn't have.
Well I’ve been a mountain biker for over 30 years & people would ask me how much my bikes cost & I would always say I do really know because I build them by picking all my own parts & frame but they where both over 10k & just the forks alone would be around $1000 & wheelset around the same so to me the prices in comparison are much cheaper but now that I’ve been in RC some of the prices mostly for RTR’s have had ridiculous prices nearing $600 & I’m talking specifically about crawlers that come completely stock with stock electronics not one aftermarket part.
Sucks about shapeways. I hate spektrum stuff.. wpl’s are highly detailed models you can drive.. most expensive thing I spent money on was the RC HOBBY 😂
I enjoy racing 1/8 scale nitro pro buggies. I do not however enjoy the expense. I have spent close to $750.00 on just a Reds racing nitro engine. It costs anywhere from $50 to $200 each week to stay competitive in the nitro world. Thank you for the content. I look forward to it each week.
Most expensive non-car/truck/boat (have to mention boats, since I have quite a few) purchase would be my Futaba 7PX (which was purchased shortly after the very first price-drop. However, since I'm sure you're more interested in things other than radios..... The most expensive non-car AND non-radio purchase is a toss-up between a 1-piece body panel for an Axial CAPRA (which I competed with at Scale Nationals 2021 (officially 2020, but 'postponed', for to the pandemic), and a set of machined axles from Vitavon Racing for my Axial Ryft (toss-up, because I can't remember which actually cost more). I won't go into any details of the axles, as they're very self-explanatory...but, as for the CAPRA body panel, that's an interesting story behind it. There's a small one-person business known for producing limited quantities of hand-formed aluminum body panels & body panel sets for various RCs (mostly crawlers, but a few non-crawlers). Like most small businesses, once he comes up with a design idea, he makes a prototype. This is partly done to have a physical representation of the idea, but is mostly to determine the amount of time involved in producing each unit, and to determine whether a profit is realistically viable. For designs he determines can be profitable, he typically produces as few as 25, and as many as 100...but For those few designs that E determines would not be profitable, the prototype ends up being the only one produced. The majority of the time, he destroys the prototype (too many takes up too much space)...but, on occasion, if you really likes the design, he keeps the prototype to add to his personal collection. I can't remember if it was 2019, or 2020, but, in a video for a couple of his new designs that he would be offering, I happen to notice a CAPRA in the background, with this incredibly unique single panel body...so, I emailed him to inquire about it. He told me that it was a one-off prototype that he had decided not to produce, but he loves it so much that he kept it for his own collection. It took a bit of convincing, as well as several back-and-forth emails, but I did finally convince him to sell it to me. The price was definitely higher than one might expect...but, considering it was a one of a kind, I felt the expense well worth it.
Josh you know how easy it is to spend a lot of money on Vanquish parts. SCX10 II portal axles by VP were $500. I think they are $600 plus now. But I can’t stand cheap parts/upgrades.
Over $100 for each electronics, body, wheels and tires has become the norm for me so I would have to say this year it’s my 2 artful dodgers chassis. But the years still young
Nothing wrong with budget hobby. Some people have thousands to spend on just tx/rx. I'm getting back into the hobby after about 2 decades, so everything is new to me lol. What kind of rc car do you have?
My single most expensive item (not including pairs of wheels or axles) is probably the RC4WD Warn 8274 winch - $100 for essentially a cosmetic accessory, but it is exquisite!
Nitro motor's back in the day were close to 400. Novarossi P5 ftw.. recently would probably be radio. A full race setup back in the early 2000s for 1/8 nitro buggy would run close to 2500.... so much fun though. and worth every penny
Most expensive independent items that I bought was the first gen rugged that is a piece of s*** and spectrum would not warranty and I still have it as a shelf Queen to remind me never to buy anything from those assholes ever again
Guess the most expensive I've got is the hw axe system, I don't think even my 3PM was that much back in the day. I don't really get aluminum panels with a plastic cage
My most expensive was my rc speedy c3 4500 roundback chassis in ti. Then I built it with my vs410 ultra kit with all the pro trans upgrades I got from last TOF. then decided I needed blue 105s with itbr rings. And it's not a shelf queen ;)
Current record is $259 (I think that’s what they run?) on a dx5 rugged but before the summer is out that will be dethroned when I spend $400 to have my bittydesign destroyer body painted to be the gymkhana 10 hoonicorn
Not the most expensive but $200 for a set of front axle shafts is the craziest thing that pops in my head... broke in a few runs. Them thangs was Super³⁰⁰!!!
Even for 300 I would buy aluminum optic panels if vanquish made them I think the most I’ve spent was converting my phenix portal to straight axle and aluminum and then I bought all the bits to change the body to a origin and I purchased vanquish wheels with skarn headlock rings and scale hardware plus I put taking electronics in it and reefs 400 for shift servos

Yes, you can still pay for a part from Shapeways. I ordered an H10 grille on 6/30. I'm in the process of filing a chargeback now.

Yup, bought a t10px out of Japan and saved $$$$, still the single most expensive item outside of kits/rtrs/ToF/WoF…
That aluminum body for the h10 is sick. I think I'd want it thin enough to dent tho for character like my 1:1 rig
@cliffmccrawl has great body parts for the h10
Most expensive thing I bought was a ucfab moon buggy chassis
It sucks about shapeways I have an order that was just about to ship and now I’ll probably be out the money and not be able to get any of the items I ordered
When can we expect replacement H10 Optic body panels from vanquish?
So far, the most expensive part is a reefs servo, but ..... I think I'll be changing my answer soon when I order a farbon ciber Suga body. lol
I get you need the plugs to promote your channel. But now you have more plugs then updates. I would rather hear about the updates 🤷♀️
I agree, becoming more of a promotion update segmentrecently.
If that spektrum comes out with another stupid scroll wheel someone should be fired 😆
First thing that comes to mind is 125 bucks for a transponder.
