there is almost nowhere a good diy repair guide for atx psu's . i guess you will gain many subs and views of you do one. a basic troubleshooting to the most common atx psu problems in the primary and the secondary and the signs they give. thank you
I noticed today a burn smell coming from my pc, turned it off and then tried to reboot. No display but the fans and lights still work. I noticed the psu red voltage switch in the back looked a lil burnt. What should i do?
I was unfortunate to fix NXSTEK NX-5000 PSU. Primary side fuse, current sense resistor, bridge rectifier, primary side filter cap, MOSFET (IXYS) were dead. Got them replaced - PSU turned on, measured all the output voltage rails, in spec! Disconnected power cable and plugged it in again and bang! Fuse and MOSFET have blown again. I suspect the PSU does't have In-rush current protection, no thermistors or varistors though.
Hi i have 2 550watt psus same model. And these are habe same problem. Tny176pn's drain pins re burnt and fuses are burnt. So i replaced them and psus start to work. All voltages became, except 5v powerok and psu buzzing. No bad caps, i replaced all caps secondary. Nothing changed. Does transformator dead? Because tny176pn drain pin goes to mini trafoes primary
are there any caps on the pSU that can kill you? if so would love to see a tutorial on how your avoid getting killed and how you drain the caps that are lethal if they are residential on the PSU.
When I resolder caps, after I have the new cap in the holes and soldered I hold the board up and heat the pins underneath so the solder drips down like when it went over the original solder bath. Does a neat fix job.
I have one of these, mine is the CX 750 modular, this model in particular has a very strange problem, when handling a load, like gaming, it will cause something that freezes the graphics card, and creates an interrupt in windows 10. You can see the interrupt in the event log. I thought i was going crazy, so i googled the fail, and indeed, it is the psu. Lots of people had this problem and got a refund or a new suppy. Unfortunately mine is quite old (2014), and im not able to get another one for a replacement. The internals arent any similar to that one. It has a big 12 volt rail and the separate converters. Very weird.
Do you think its fine to use a 5 year old cx750 on a new build. Newer build is alot more power hungry wondering how psu hold their capabilities over time
hello, I have a cx500m and my fan has become really loud, I'm thinking of getting a slim noctua fan for it, would a standard 3 pin fan header fit or should I get a soldering iron, cut the old and new cable and solder them together?
Hey hello, my psu had suffered a bit of overheating due to poor case air flow and now the capacitor at the first part of its circuit makes a squeak, it has like 6 months it started making it but I tought it was coil whine until I opened it and checked really good that I realized it was that cap making the sound. What would you recommend me to do about it? Is it safe to use it like that or should I replace the squeaking cap? It is a polyester one. Thanks.
@@FFcossag It's not old, I bought it about two years ago. And it hasn't suffered any overheating shut down or anything like that except for the squeaky noise.
hey man i watch your video i wonder like to send me the name and model of pc multimiter also i want to know if GPU power cable is interconnected or they are separate from each other so i could make 8 pin with thik wire also in that psu how much awg are of wires go to cpu and gpu?? thanks and have nice day
I came to this video because I don't know how to orient the fan back in with the plastic thing after I took the power supply apart xD. My CX500 ran a 970, 1070 and is currently running a 3060 Ti with an up to date mother motherboard and processor.
Thank you for that review it's amazingly detailed During the video i've wondered what these little spots of white paint are. Opening my own psu i found the same paint blobs and thought the owner before me used it for painting. Needless to say i was quite pleased to know that your psu features them as well. Do you know why they are actually there?
I've had the CS650M forever and yes it is 80plus Gold, I remember thinking 'Buy once cry once" paying for it. It barely passed the qualification for my rx 6800 xt with a 5600x and it's February 2023! Ebay is selling this PSU for around $40 today so it has stood the test of time. I found out I never removed the protective plastic either!
Comcast I'm guessing? They've been going up and down nation wide in the US. From what I've gathered China's hacker team (they keep changing their stupid name) has been causing chaos.
@@exquisitedark back in Romania my internet goes down probably 3times a year and i pay less than 8 euros unlimited internet with 100 mb download cap i believe...last internet test was around 44 up and 80 down. @FFcossag ESR compairing is a waste of time... I always put random caps with same voltage and capacity without care about est value and always fixed device worked with no issues...
That works fine on old linear power supplies, but if you don't match or improve the ESR of capacitors in a switching power supply, you are dramatically decreasing its lifetime.
I love how you call that old. I'm still using a TX650 from 2009, self-peeling polycarbonate labels and all. :)
All is relative.

You know you can short pins 16 and 17 on 24 pin connector to make the PSU run
Interestingly enough, I lost a screw inside it never to be found again. Does it feature mini black holes?
What component is the: FT EE22A- 007 03 E22 1402 V02, emplacement is possible, is it difficult to replace it? you can see it in the minute 37:33

By the way, the answer is no, there's a lot of current stored in a computer PSU but if it's not plugged in, it cannot kill you.
@@JinnaiT This is completely false. If you don't discharge it first, the capacitors can stay charged for days, and it's enough power to kill you.

i feel like im dealing with that issue now.

It's fine.
Can you unscrew just the fan to just clean the blades?

You need to change the connector. You can just cut the wires and use a screw terminal.
@@FFcossag ok thanks
your screen is covering up the main screen why do you have it?
That clear white piece on the back of the fan, what’s the purpose of it and which side should it be facing?
It guides the air through the entire thing, it's a crude way of doing it.
So what was wrong with it if that bulging cap tested OK?

I really can't say much about it. Old, hot-running power supplies are usually best replaced before they get a chance to damage anything.

Less than two minutes in and MY HEADPHONES JUST SNAPPED!!!
Time for steel wire and duck tape.
It looks like a nice psu, nothing to indicate any heavy use at all :-D
Well worth the cap changes.

Do you still have this PSU? I am looking for a specific diode (D6) and resistor (R6) because i do not have any diagram . I can send you pics. Thanks!
Error in pronunciation; it's "CrapXon", cos they're crap before they're even manufactured... :P
Yep, any crapxon caps I replace on sight without testing. They are the worst caps of any brand.

I suspect you're talking of the glue they use to make sure it doesn't break in shipping.
The glue is so the components don't come off during the solder bath when it's made.
Do you have a website?
No, I do not.
Thanks
