Winter Plankton ZAPS review

- ZAPS is a digitally controlled dual analogue oscillator percussion synthesizer that produces immense cascades of splats, squirts and sizzles. Here's my review. Winter Plankton sent this to me for review, but I'm not consciously biased - I'm just having a really good time with it.

The stochastic module is a perfect match for this lovely and tonally colourful dual osc. I think the volca drum helped me understand the "layers" aspect to creating percussion tones.
I love how you modulate those slots and slap those pitches dawg
That's just flippin' marvelous!
After seeing this eloquent demonstration you are left with no other option than to buy the ZAPS.
I was watching this, and I thought wow, this would be amazing scaled up to 4 oscillators and 1 knob-per-function. It'd be too big for most racks but I reckon people would buy it. It would make a nice standalone unit to sit in front of the rack.
Sounds like a Team Doyobi album! Awesome!
Holy shit - stochastic and zaps.....need.
this is awfully familiar to a plugin in Reaktor I used to use years ago, I can't remember what it was called, but did all this basically that is shown on the video with very similar types of sounds. It was Blinksonic I remember now
🔥
I love Zaps thats what brought me to synths and modular, but not sure if i want to deal with complicated menu diving for random zips and zaps, i wish there was a dedicated "zaps" module like the recent ssf entity drum modules. I don't get and would not enjoy the digital part of this.
Nice video Robin! We want your banks ! If you could share at patch storage ?
Ha, I haven't saved anything, I'm just using what came with it.
@@MoltenMusicTech 😋 You’ll get there !
What configuration or CV setings you use on the keybord for get the 12 slots on the same octave?thanks
It’s a setting in Zaps called “chromatic” or something like that
Sounds like R2D2 having a rant. 👍
What is your favorite book Robin?

So I just listened to you having inappropriate amounts of fun for an hour. Is that how this is supposed to work?
Absolutely, well, for me anyway. Your mileage may vary.
@@MoltenMusicTech :) Always a pleasure, I assure you!
Hello Molten, is this module possibly perfect to create bass sequences? Has it enough bass frequencies? I would make bass patterns in combination with synth drums (also zaps)for live. Is it suitable for that? I mean not just short zappy and noisy sounds! Thanks for the answer
I would say yes.... it is just a pair of oscillators at the end of the day although everything about it pulls you towards percussion. However, if you dig in you can use it as a dual oscillator, multi wave synth. I did a section in the video around the 30 min mark that shows you all about it. So, yes it can, with the proviso that Plankton wants you to do the beats more than the bass :D
@@MoltenMusicTech yes, i know that the whole config thing will goes to percussions butbif some slots can be Synth derivates then it is ok. Thank you for the answer.
