Joshua Tree is an all time great album. I forget about it at times but it’s in my top 25 for full albums. No need to fast forward or skip ANY SONGS which is nice. It’s great to sit and close your eyes to and relax and enjoy beautiful tunes.
@@TheLanceUppercut, what?! Get well soon. So PANTERA is definitely out of the question then? Yes, I realize I’m being an ass, thank you. But Bullet the Blue Sky? Ok, man, I won’t hold it against you. At least you like the band.👍
I like the album version of the song better, but they also do a great job live. Most of their songs are better live, but they are actually dubbing like 3 guitars for the album versions, for a richer sound (which they obviously can't do live). "Still Haven't Found..." also has 3 guitars going on the album version, but I don't notice their absence as much when they play it live.
@@bminturn I hear you, I love the studio version too. It's just a great song. I'm usually the one saying I prefer the studio version of songs when others rave about the live performances. I just love the energy this song has live.
Check out 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' and 'Vertigo' by U2. Be sure to check out the official music video for this song. The band performed downtown LA and it's an amazing video. Keep up the great work.
"Where the Streets Have No Name(s)" references a longing for a place where people aren't put into boxes based on their street addresses. It was of particular interest during the sectarian civil war that went on in N. Ireland for decades. Someone could know that you were a Catholic or Protestant based on your address in places like Belfast, and the song is just wishing for a time when those sorts of divisions dissolve.
@@dubiousdistinction6500 like most U2 songs, it's easy to get a more generalized meaning from the song as well. I don't know if there is a "wrong" way to look at the song, if you know what I mean. They do a pretty good job of taking something specific, like civil war in Ireland, and making it very general in a song like this, so that it feels very specific to each listener...if that makes sense. Like they'll write a song such as "Love Is Blindness", which is actually about an IRA car-bombing, but disguise it as an unrequited love song in 6/8 (basically a waltz). They have taken a lot of heat for writing songs that way, but it seems like they just perfected the formula to me.
I also heard that the song *Where the Streets Have No Name* was inspired during Bono's charitable work in the unfathomable impoverished country of Ethiopia, where sheet metal huts created thin lanes, which were operated like streets to their limited capacities, and none of these haphazardly makeshift streets possessed *no names* - only based on the poor people's memory of where they lived. The lyrics, "Our love turns to rust (metal homes in decrepit states), and 'trampled in dust'..." Alongside, "High on a desert plain..." all spoke of Ethiopia, and the inundated hopeless situation summed up by Bono's efforts, "And when I go there, I go there with you, it is all I can do...".
@@bodies2magenta I've read that as well. Again, U2 songs sometimes come at you from more than one point of view (like "One") or have multiple influences (like this song, or "Love Is Blindness").
@@bminturn - Absolutely, and however one desires to interpret their songs, it is perfectly acceptable - that is the beauty of subjective interpretations; as it allows the listener to conclude what it truly means to them. However, whatever it means to one individual, that is, in my humble opinion, the vital aspect of the track at that point in time. Thanks for your response, take care of yourself my friend.
I saw these guys on this album. San Diego Sports Arena. 1987. Fresh out of Navy boot camp. Bono brought a girl up out of the audience and she did sign language to this very song. Definitely a memorable moment in my life.
Great reaction. Absolutely love this song. The whole album is great. You might also want to listen to their song(I still haven’t found what I’m looking for).U2 what a great band.😀👍❤️✌️🌼
U2 is a very deep and thought-provoking band. I highly recommend listening to pride, One, with or without you, vertigo, and sometimes you can't make it on your own
The video for this song had LA streets shut down as they filmed this on top of a small store in downtown, they had people all over drive in to try and see them!
There really is no more religious experience you can have than when you're in the crowd as U2 launch into this song live in concert. It feels like you're being taken to some higher plain of existence.
In 1987, I saw U2 in concert (their "Joshua Tree" tour) at the old (long gone) Veterans Stadium with 90,000 people! U2 opened the concert with this song with the long intro. Incredible concert. I agree with others the "Joshua Tree" is one of the greatest albums of all time -- not a bad song on the entire album. Very powerful lyrics and music. Bono is an incredible songwriter or lyricist at least.
U2 is one of the greatest rock bands .. check out “One” .. or “With or Without You” they have so many hits you’ll have plenty to react to .. One of my country’s best exports ☘️🇮🇪😀👍
U2 is another SUPER group with countless timeless songs. I think you would love the live version of any of their songs but "with or without you" live in Boston is fantastic. Shoot, this one live is unbelievable.. anything live for that matter. Their Superbowl performance at the Superbowl performance after 9/11 is a goosebumps kind of thing Thanks for another good one
U2 are an Irish rock band from Dublin, formed in 1976. The group consists of Bono (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), the Edge (lead guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals), Adam Clayton (bass guitar), and Larry Mullen Jr. (drums and percussion). Initially rooted in post-punk, U2's musical style has evolved throughout their career, yet has maintained an anthemic quality built on Bono's expressive vocals and the Edge's chiming, effects-based guitar sounds. Their lyrics, often embellished with spiritual imagery, focus on personal and sociopolitical themes. Popular for their live performances, the group have staged several ambitious and elaborate tours over their career.
“One” is a great song and also see it with Mary J Blige and U2. Also, The Joshua Tree is one of the best albums of all time IMO and personally love Running to Stand Still.
I can’t believe this is your first reaction to U2, but so glad you finally got around to them (you definitely need to go watch this music video, btw.) This is definitely a rabbit hole you could-SHOULD-fall down, since these school buddies from Dublin have been active since the late 70s, and are still touring (selling out huge stadiums) and putting out music in their early 60s now. They do put out a lot of music that has deep meaning to it, about a lot of social justice issues. I’ve also got to mention some things I personally like about these guys: they’ve managed to stay together as a band and as friends for practically 50 years now. No lineup changes or anything. And they are not known for living a wild, “rockstar” lifestyle- with groupies, etc. In fact, lead singer Bono (Paul Hewson) has been married to his high school sweetheart all this time, with no rumors of cheating or other bad behavior. By the way, this song specifically relates to ‘The Troubles’ in Northern Ireland. In Belfast, especially when this song was written in the ‘80s (before the fragile (and relative) peace that has been hanging on there for several decades now), Catholics did not go into certain parts of town- onto/past certain streets-and Protestants did not go into others. He’s saying he wants it to just be where it doesn’t matter, where you can walk through any neighborhood and it shouldn’t matter whether you’re this or that, it shouldn’t be something that would get people killed.
I live outside of Reno, Nevada and in 1997 I went back to Minnesota (where I am from) to visit my older brothers and niece and nephews. One of my nephews was about 18 and I was 33, at the time and he surprised his Auntie with tickets to a U2 concert. Such a surprise, and absolutely a fantastic show.
SO glad you two found U2. They are really wonderful. I hope you do more. They are a band in which you can't go wrong with any song. They are one of my favorite bands and Bono is a favorite lyricist and voices. Down the rabbit hole you gooooooo :0)
You have to check out " In The Name Of Love" by U2; its a tribute to Martin Luther King. A Little history of U2 they are from Ireland and many of their songs: especially their early songs in the early 80's spoke about the violence and struggle for peace in Ireland. One of the best Rock Bands of all time...seriously.
My #4 all time song is”With or Without You” by U2. It’s a better song than this one if you believe me. The live Slane Castle version is the best version if you ask me.
I like how Edge's guitar work increases intensity as the song moves forward. From their 1987 Joshua Tree album. I think it was their best work, the album is a masterpiece. Every song flows to the next, they're all good.
make sure to give "Pride (In the name of Love) a listen on your U2 journey. It's about mlk jr. so many bangers, they exploded in the mid 80's and released a couple of absolutely must have albums - "The Joshua Tree" and "Rattle and Hum" no record collection is complete without them
You should see the way Bono commonly develops the lyrics for their songs. The band plays the music and he starts by just making sounds. He then elevates those sounds to mumble/nonsense words. And he progresses to the point where it's a song with lyrics. It's kind of a cool process to see.
They performance of this at the Super Bowl in 2002 is still one of the greatest, and most emotional, things I've ever experienced. You really need to check it out if you've never seen it - but be prepared to cry.
Yo, what's up, Asia and BJ? Great reaction video to one of my All Time Favorite bands, U2! Have been following U2 since 1982 and have seen them Live in Concert 4 times! Please check out their Super Bowl Half Time Show after the events of 9/11/01. Their Live Shows are Amazing!!! Another great live performance of U2 is at Live Aid July 13, 1995! Incredible Performance!!! Thank you So Much for your Channel! God bless both of you. Take Care. Much Love And Respect. ✌
U2 are among the gods of Rock n' Roll...................this song makes me cry.........it's about "Paradise or Heaven." Makes me cry!!! "Still Have Not Found What I'm Looking For" by U2
Love 💕 U2 , had the pleasure seeing them Live ! My favourite songs are “Bullet the blue sky “& All I want is you ( love this song Bono dedicated this to his childhood sweetheart & Wife Ali ….she’s a amazing beautiful wife of Bono been by his side since high school….
Morning Asia an BJ, Please react to the live performance of this epic song from their concert at Slane Castle in Ireland 2002. Streets with no Name transitions beautifully from With or Without you so please watch the performance from the start of that song, it will blow your mind and the crowd and atmosphere was simply amazing, just wish I was there. TC from Australia, I really enjoy your reactions.
Brilliant song brilliant band who deserve to be at the top of the pecking listening order as there still giving to this day and began in the mid 70s in my opinion the most influential live band of all time but of coarse the no1 spot belongs to Elvis as he was near perfect vocally live&studio just as u2 extremely brilliant live&studio,as a matter of fact the drummer who formed the band (Larry Mullen Jnr)is a mega Elvis fan and its easy to see as he's as humble as Elvis also was, thanks for your listening reaction an welcome to the U2 family
Oh you should check out In The Name Of Love, Sunday Bloody Sunday, anything off of Joshua Tree, including my favorite U2 song Bullet The Blue Sky. Also, All I Want Is You. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of their work after this era, but it's really popular and there are the occasional gems. *EDIT* I actually live in a place in Montana where many of the streets literally have no names. Bono can come live here, I'll trade him for Vegas or SoCal or some place cool LOL
U2 is fire. Live is even better. So many hits too. They played along with Queen in the epic Live Aid concert for Africa Relief. Great performance at this concert also.
“The Joshua Tree” (in my personal opinion) is the single greatest album of all time. Super powerful. There is not a single track on that album that you can go wrong with.
I’m going to mention one more thing about this band. I like all kinds of high quality music. This is years ago and I really don’t remember the exact tour. It might have been an anniversary tour, like 30? Not sure, anyway it was QUEENSRYCHE in one of those old American ornate theatres that are just beautiful and cool to see a Rock band in. Long time U2 fan and big time QUEENSRYCHE fan. Never saw U2 but QUEENSRYCHE, ended up to 21 times live. This was one of them. They played 2 or 3 songs and went into the unmistakable U2 drum intro of Bullet the Blue Sky! I freaked out and yelled in my friends ear, That’s Bullet the Blue Sky! It’s my favourite U2 song and now QUEENSRYCHE was doing their cover of it! I couldn’t believe it! I will never forget how cool that was.
I live in the US southwest, and Joshua Tree remains my anthem for any road trips I might take across it. To me the album encompasses the feel of the area like no other I have heard in 30+ years of loving the desert.
I'm surprised you guys didnt see the video of this song they did in downtown LA in 1986 on top of a liquor store with no permission from the authorities, getting shut down. The whole nation loved what they did.
The Joshua Tree is one of my favorite albums. Bono said the song was inspired by the streets of Belfast, where you know what class of people you were dealing with by the street they lived on. The band grew up during what the Irish called The Troubles. Bono wanted to be in a place where the streets had no name and everyone was treated equally. He is very influenced by his faith in God and Christ, and the album shows that. It is beautiful.
Live! This song has to be heard and vowed live! The way they transition into it in concert is like an out of body experience. Check out The Zoo TV version from Sydney or the Slane Castle version.
Now that a group we could choose about twenty five great songs. Right AJ they are very smooth instrumentalist and a great lead. Quality was always in with U2
You should have reacted to the official video of this song. It's very very good. U2 is one of the best bands in history, with great musicians, all of them, and with a lead singer, Bono, who has a very good voice and an absolutely magnetic personality.
U2 - an epic band. Lead singer Bono was a force in organizing relief during the famine in Africa. Deeply spiritual music was produced by this band in album after album.
There's a video where they are in Vegas singing on a roof top stopped traffic. It's really missing something without seeing them live. Also they sing with BB King When Love Comes to Town. These guys are poets.
Watch a live version of this song. ZooTV Sydney, for instance. Live it's an incredibly powerful and emotional experience. And the song is absolutely massive.
Just listening to this relaxes me. My husband and I have been married for over 38 years. If only… we could get away to nowhere for a week, we would be able to reconnect to what’s really important. We live in the Texas hill country outside of Austin. Camping suits me just fine. We used to go camping with our kids when they were little. But the snakes. They’re everywhere here. So no camping for me unless it’s in the dead of winter. And that wouldn’t be pleasant either. There has to be a way. Ugh. Love this song. Remember when this album came out. Not a bad song on it. Thanks for the react!
I love your reactions when you play the songs I grew up with and seeing the looks of satisfaction on your faces. Makes me feel good. Keep up the good work.
I was at the U2 Rattle and Hum movie/concert in 1987 at ASU where a friend was attending school. Joshua Tree is an amazing album but the entire Achtung Baby album is a masterpiece - tracks 4, 5 and 6 are among the most poetically tragic love songs ever written, the album is very uplifting as well with songs like One and Ultraviolet. The last time I saw U2 was for the Pop album tour where Rage Against The Machine opened for them, amazing show both bands. I like the Pop album okay, If God Will Send His Angels is the best track from that album imo. I've seen them 3 times, always a great show with U2.
I just commented on your "Bullet The Blue Sky" reaction 👏You need to see the amazing video for this (inc. in their 'Rattle & Hum' documentary) - shot in LA on 7th and main, from a rooftop - they performed it LIVE, with no promo or advertising - people literally flocked onto the 'streets'! It caused CHAOS - 1,000's people on the ground and folks hanging out their windows to watch! Cops tried to shut it down - but U2 went ahead & gave an legendary performance! Peace from Ireland☘️
Saw U2 in Ottawa, Canada in 1986 in front of only 10,000 fans ... my brother saw them maybe 6 years earlier at a bar in Ottawa in front of only 300 fans ... lucky him.
Live Under a Blood Red Sky was amazing. You can’t go wrong with any U2 album. My husband and I had Beautiful Day playing on the boom box in the labor ward during the birth of our daughter. So cool hearing the doctors and nurses singing along and happy during my godawful labor pains. Lol.
Two live tracks you need to see…even if they get blocked are from u2 360 Live at the Rose Bowl. Both are examples of what a charismatic front man Bono is. First is City of Blinding Light. The second is from the same show, called Ultraviolet. Both are great songs and amazing performances that you should see.
I’ve always understood that ‘no names’ part also referred to the US where streets often have numbers. Bono has a very soulful voice and U2’s performance with BB King ‘When love comes to town’ is great as well. I love how you put the lyrics underneath: U2 has very beautiful lyrics and it is good to make them an explicit part of the reaction :-)
Please also check out their half-time show for Super Bowl 36 (which was after 9/11). They did an excellent job (IMO) paying tribute tp those who lost their lives that day. They did their song Beautiful Day and then Where the Streets Have No Name.
Do a UA-cam search for U2 Tempe Where the Streets Have No Name and you will find one of the great live intros to any rock concert ever. Just an incredible video from the year in which they became the best rock band in the world.

Sunday Bloody Sunday and With or Without You are both great.
SO MANY great songs on this album. Lately I've been jamming to "Running To Stand Still" and "Red Hill Mining Town."
This was massive back in the Mtv days
The edge - the most unique sounding guitarist ever.
Best part of a U2 concert is this song. So much fun live.
Y'all have to check out Skid Row " I Remember You" Official Video and " 18 and Life" Sebastian Bach has such amazing vocals !!
The live version of Silver & Gold will change your life. Stunning.
U2 is fire. Live is even better. So many hits too. They played along with Queen in the epic Live Aid concert for Africa Relief. Great performance at this concert also.
You need to see a live version --- Super Bowl halftime show in 2002 is especially good.
“The Joshua Tree” (in my personal opinion) is the single greatest album of all time. Super powerful. There is not a single track on that album that you can go wrong with.
I agree
You MUST see them live. They are masters of live performance. I really enjoyed this reaction. Thanks for your sincerity. 💜
U2 had an unusual streak of 6 albums that were all really good and even legendary. "October" to "Achtung baby" was pretty special for a band.
U2 - Joshua Tree is one of my favorite albums of all time.
If you want to know how big U2 are check out the Superbowl half time just after 9/11, seriously it will blow your mind.
Watch the Super Bowl halftime show they did. You may cry.
Maybe the greatest song ever written…and I’m a metal head. Good stuff, you two.
Live! This song has to be heard and vowed live! The way they transition into it in concert is like an out of body experience. Check out The Zoo TV version from Sydney or the Slane Castle version.
watch them do that live...it's amazing...
U2 Sunday Bloody Sunday is great.
Now that a group we could choose about twenty five great songs. Right AJ they are very smooth instrumentalist and a great lead. Quality was always in with U2
Legendary Irish band. They were a big hit in American as well in the 80s-90s
Need to react to their live performance at Red Rock. Any song there. Incredible live band.
You should have reacted to the official video of this song. It's very very good. U2 is one of the best bands in history, with great musicians, all of them, and with a lead singer, Bono, who has a very good voice and an absolutely magnetic personality.
"Bad" live is a must
U2 - an epic band. Lead singer Bono was a force in organizing relief during the famine in Africa. Deeply spiritual music was produced by this band in album after album.
watch anything from the live show in Boston from 2001, best concert ever
Great song for your intro to U2!
The music video for this song would be a good reaction too.
This is one of my all time favorite bands. The Edge's guitar is haunting in the outro...
Got to chose live performances! It’s an emotional experience!
I love that you listened to the music alone first (with lyrics). For another fun time, watch the official music video for this song. It's…exciting. :)
Still remember U2 re-opening up the Louisiana Superdome, after Hurricane Katrina…..It was pretty incredible…..
I haven't heard a u2 song in a while y'all going in with these great reactions
HEAVEN. My Mother In Law Just Went There Last Week; Very Sad, but She was a Woman with Unwavering Faith! We Love You! RIP Joan B.
Awesome pick!! For some older try Sunday Bloody Sunday!! Cannot ever go wrong with some U2!!!
