Growling Sidewinder Do you have a discord or some other way I can send a msg? I’m looking to buy a pc and get into DCS. as a long time fan, and aircraft enthusiast I’d appreciate it if I could ask a few questions.

Pretty much. Best way to fight the Mirage in the Hornet is with a very hard initial turn followed by sustained turns at around 340-350 knots, and you should be on the Mirage's six within not too long.
@@tanguygodeau7106 In the Hornet around 350 kts seems to be the sweet spot, where'as the Mirage being a delta will want the fight to take place at a higher speed, 450 kts or more.
@@bellator11 Or simply avoid turning fight altogether, keep climbing and then attack when significantly better thrust to weight ratio does its magic. Repeat until Mirage dies.
Don't merge at high speed. Guy in the Hornet kept flying fast as hell which is a huge mistake in the Hornet. I've had Mirage's on my 6 before and get them off by using my superior AOA at lower speeds to pull away.
therealwillie try to force him in a very low high AoA and as low as possible literally almost crashing dont let him gain speed In all other scenarios you are dead, just prolonging your suffering lol

Mirage tip: if you’re behind your target pulling G and you want to close in, don’t keep the target in the middle of the HUD. The Mirage is bleeding speed above 15 degrees AoA, even with burner. So keep the target just above the HUD or above the canopy bow, so you will keep it in “control position”. When you’re close enough, you can pull AoA to look for a firing solution. 30mm hit hard but it’s low on muzzle velocity. At long range you have to put a lot of lead solution. But inside of 600m (6 o’clock on gun range circle) it’s ok. Also practice your gun firing Vs IA, to get the hang out of gun aiming on the Mirage. You don’t need perform the perfect tracking shot to hit (aligned on the snake and staying on target). You need to put the gun piper on target trajectory and pull the trigger just before he flies by (snap shot). Off course point blank shot solves all problems 😇

as i see it, probably break the turn drop speed and force the mirage to come down and try and make it turn in slow speeds. Since the Mirage is basically a giant air break, turning it in slow speeds only makes you lose more speed so the FA18 could start doing that and with it's superior turning capabilities at slow speed could turn around the mirage or force the mirage to gain altitude to recover speed and then the Hornet would be right on his tail.
Really enjoyed, the dogfight, the Mirage when used correctly is definitely deadly. As a newbie looking to make a new purchase the Mirage will be on my list. Thanks for a great video.
10 months ago, UA-cam recommended me a video about a guy playing a sim game with a Greek Mirage, maybe because I'd watched a few airplane videos, maybe because I'm Greek, maybe both or UA-cam was just drunk that day, I don't know. All I know is that I watched the video out of curiosity and got hooked. I've watched all videos since then, even though I don't play the game, I don't play anything that resembles a sim. Now, I'm watching a Mirage video again as a fan of the channel. I've come full circle I guess. :D

GS - LOVED this video! I do have a suggestion though that might make things even more interesting - You should do "Round Robin" dogfights, where you swap aircraft after every combat. That would go a LONG way to show which pilot had the more developed dogfighting skills.
Years ago and I do mean years ago, Jane's F-15 had a remarkably similar gunsight - except it had multiple modes. One was a funnel with the clock at the end, another was near identical to the mirage here (iirc) and the other was without and only had the clock. Within each mode you could select a sub mode where you could hold down the trigger but the gun wouldn't fire until the clock unwound to the 3 o'clock position and was over the target. It was extremely effective and although the visuals weren't as good as modern day (it still supported 3dFX) the gameplay was about the same. The game imparted rather well the mass of an F-15. It actually felt like a heavy airplane and like a tank when loaded with bombs and external fuel tanks.
Thor proves unequivocally that repeating the same mistake multiple times will result in multiple fails. He never climbed or stayed at altitude during the merge. A simple Chandelle off burner would have allowed him to at least maintain turn rate against the Mirage while climbing and gaining potential energy, and probably gain both turn rate and closure on the 6 of his opponent while maintaining his energy. He should never have given altitude advantage to the Mirage, but should have forced the fight into the environment where the F18 excels, and turning/rolling fight where you can wear down the other guy down, bleed his energy, then use the 18's superior nose pointing ability to get the snap shot kill. His attempts at turning the table were totally ineffective because he was defensive, not controlling the fight from an advantageous position. He gave up the fight int he first 5 seconds when he elected to dive instead of climb or turn at the same altitude. Once he allowed the Mirage on his ix, the outcome was totally predictable. This fight should have never dropped below merge altitude, and Thor should have killed the Mirage in under 60 seconds. His initial dive/mistake killed him every time. Repeated mistakes provided repeated fails.
Pretty much word for word what I was saying before I saw your comment. Knowledge of your aircraft is key. Knowledge of your opponents aircraft is moreso. Fighting a Mirage fast in a Hornet? Cool...your dead, you just dont know it yet.
A delta wing configuration is pure venom combined with fly-by-wire. Fantastic content! Most difficult thing for me is keeping visual, even though I do have very good eyesight. I guess it takes a lot of practice and experience 👍
Victor-Emmanuel thanks man and yes that was one of the hardest things when I was first learning to dogfight was maintaining visual. Good news it ur right that practice deff helps.
WOW. I really liked the Mirage for a long time, but never thought it could face so greatly an F18 in dogfight. Now I wanna see the Mirage against an F15!
I like this new format with more footage and less tac view. The footage is always more fun to watch and the analysis requires more thinking. I usually loose my attention if the analysis is too long. Very good video as always!
See i told you the Mirage 2000 is the best dogfighter of DCS, it has tons of power turns in a dime, you can bleed energy on a blink of an eye and then just regain it in another blink lol A good f-18 pilot will keep you slow and flat low, there he can grab your 6
I love the delta and delta canards, these concepts provide very unique aerodynamic characteristics!! I think I'll get my flying baguette out of the garage. PS: we need a baguette skin for the m2k
I don’t play DCS - but I’ve been watching your content for a very long time. In real life the mirage is suuuch a competitor in air to air. The delta wing frame is sooo superior in regards to maneuverability. It’s a beautiful aircraft with excellent capabilities. Love your content. But, as others have mentioned, I’d love to see you switch places during these videos. I want to see how you’d counter the mirages incredible AOA.
thanks so much man, I appreciate your support on the channel and watching the videos, actually I have a video showing me in a hornet against the mirage. here it is ua-cam.com/video/QlqcUktplQA/v-deo.html
The F18 at certain speeds has very good turn rate in the horizontal turns / not sure if Thor was using that to his advantage though / keep the aircraft where its happy and most manoeuvrable / also maybe not engage in a dive fight with a mirage and i think you could still do some damage with the F 18
The mirage shows more surface area per degree of angle of attack right? This means more energy goes into the airframe, which could be a problem in dense air approaching mach2. I'm not sure if either planes jets work well in those conditions, but the cowling of the mirage suggests that high aoa at supersonic speeds may cause compressor stall (I think a high aoa would create a low pressure area inside the air intake). Does DCS calculate this?
Great as always. It would be interesting if you did for example 6 rounds and after 3 rounds you switch aircrafts. That way we can see if it is the pilot or the aircraft that is doing the winning.
Really nice I really don't think about that I would be going to overshoot with su-27 and I was gonna die due to the bleed but now I got a better image of how to handle it better thanks keep that awesome content flowing
I believe hes new. deff something I did when I first started. he learned after this tho that diving is not the solution. although I think his logic was to drag the fight low and make it slow as soon as possible which is logical. he just always died before he could make it slow enough.
@@GrowlingSidewinder I remember reading on a thread somewhere a greek pilots talking about Mirage vs F16 dogfights, like here at low altitude the F16 has an advantage and retains energy better than the Mirage, so if the fight last for a while the F16 will gain more and more advantage, but with good pilots in both planes, the Mirage will most of the times not let enough time to the F16 to show its advantages. Mirage kinda feels like a double or quits aircraft. By far my favourite fighter
@@GrowlingSidewinder yeah my mathed is stay as long as you can on alttitude and energy.... highground is most of the time a adventage in my opinion....
So not trying to be rude or anything but what was the point of the video then if you're going up against a newbie? Especially one that keeps committing the same mistakes. Are you concluding that the mirage is best dog fighter. Sorry man, not trying to offend at all or taking anything away from the French plane but this is a disappointing match up for me. Your videos and on the fly analysis are always awesome and love watching them. Just this one has too much mirage fan boying with huge driver level mismatches.
Hey Sidewinder! This is an excellent video proving that the mirage can still overcome her oponents. Btw I can't load any magics on my 2000 in your Dcs Server. Is this an issue that will be fixed or is it my actual game?
Even if you are recording in 1080p you'll get much better quality out of youtube if you upload at 1440p. The same goes for people watching on a 1080p monitor, 1440p is much significantly better quality because of the higher bitrate.
I'm not surprised by this vidéo, Mirage 2000 is known for its higher instantaneous turn rate even with a little less power, his aerodynamics gives it advantage over the majority of 4th generation aircraft. It has the defect of loss energy but it can be also an advantage in dogfight, and his aerodynamic and engine give him the speed quickly. This plane is really a dogfighter, no doubt.

Tell him to uninstall. I ll fight him with an F5 and he gets F18... He needs to force 2 circle fights, or horizontal turning fights in general, bleed his energy to 250-300 knots and keep making sustained turns, he has more chances into forcing you into a mistake, also he needs to use high yoyos more, especially when you bleed your energy by pulling the nose up. Most of the times the above tactic will enter a rolling scissors state, which he doesnt really want to be in, BUT you making a mistake has higher chances, plus he could always try to break the scissors by diving and extending and see what to do from there. My 2 cents, love M2k as a Greek, good skin btw :P
The mirage is such a sexy plane. Nice to see how deadly it can be in dogfighting. Wish we could get the -5 so it could be a little bit more deadly in the missile engagements.
Thank u GS - But how can i go to CCM Close combat mode - i mean for radar tracking in close combat like f-15 which press 3 for vertical scan - which key used for m2K ؟؟؟
The F16 should indeed give the Mirage a run for its money, especially at low alt where it is at advantage, but he gotta keep in mind the the Mirage's instantaneous turn can be deadly and kill him long before he gets enough time to show its advantages

Finally an honest reply...stick to cooking.....
Greek signs on MIRAGE 2000 .HELL YEAH! They know what they do just like you ! +1 Like
22:10 - Quote of the Day - "That's one way to get a Mirage off your tail..." ROFLMFAO!
I feel like if this was a super hornet rather than a classic hornet it would have performed much better, great video btw
There he is!
Nope, that was some fluff on my screen.
Same XD
Very good video as always!
thank you for that feedback i'll keep it in mind
See i told you the Mirage 2000 is the best dogfighter of DCS, it has tons of power turns in a dime, you can bleed energy on a blink of an eye and then just regain it in another blink lol
A good f-18 pilot will keep you slow and flat low, there he can grab your 6
rossmum do you think it can take on a mirage in a dogfight?
@@StoneCoolds only when you take it into vertical. You basicaly rope a dope him using your enormous thrust on full burners.
@@marduk87 and then an f22 or f35 proofs you to oblivion... you guys are.soooooo funny...
Damn, that first kill was satisfying to watch.
What I have learned from his videos. It's indeed the man behind the gun. No. Matter what jet he flys it makes it look unbeatable.
Can’t get enough of this channel
What are you talking about ? At supersonic speed, especially M2.0 nobody does high AoA. G force would destroy before reaching high AoA...
I am new to this. What is AoA?
@@XimCines angle of attack
@@JoJo-vm8vk High AoA vs the max AoA for speed, altitude, and airframe.
what about if you fly the hornet . and your friend the mirage ? woult you win to :)
Awesome video, although I still wonder how you're finding anything inside the cockpit with this low gamma setting
I can't wait for the F-16 vs. Mirage video i'm sure you will be doing in the fall
oh man, I have so much F-16 stuff planned don't even get me started
Great as always. It would be interesting if you did for example 6 rounds and after 3 rounds you switch aircrafts. That way we can see if it is the pilot or the aircraft that is doing the winning.
I wonder what could happen if su-27 and mirage-2000 get into a dog fight. But i guess it would be amaziiiiiiiiiing!!!!
excellent! One thinks that the Mirage is sitting inside the cockpit and guiding it. Thankful
Really nice I really don't think about that I would be going to overshoot with su-27 and I was gonna die due to the bleed but now I got a better image of how to handle it better thanks keep that awesome content flowing
Amazing the MIrage 2000C is that good, wow.
I'm f14 tomcat guy but the mirage got my interest I'm seem to like it THANKS FOR ALL YOUR WORK
Fantastic kills. Just wondering, what is that snake-y line in the HUD supposed to represent?
Andy Leuterio thank you. The snake represents predicted bullet trajectory.
Growling Sidewinder awesome! Keep it up. Learning new things from your vids
Just a quick question, is it a common courtesy in dcs dogfights to not engage the enemy before you have merged ?
Tejan Goel in multiplayer no, anything goes, in a 1 on 1 duel yes. U wait to merge and then fights on.
Addictive stuff! Thanks.
Kudos to Thor for his perseverance...
As an aviator's son, you are brutal brother.
GS - You need to post a follow-up vid to this one. In that fight, YOU fly the F-18 and Thor gets the Mirage. Would love to see what happens then. : D
Could jou do dogfight Mirage 2000c vs F-16/F-15? . I m interested if M2000c is Able to win this fights. Ths for film ther are exelent!
Why does he dive every time... Is he a new player to DCS? Or the fa18?
Some creative use of fcs override on the F18 could have helped on a couple of occasions maybe but the Mirage is a true master of high AoA.
Great vid as always. Kinda surprised his tactics didn't change. I thought the F18 would out turn the Mirage. Learnt a lot.
I just saw this video as I got interested in DCS!!! OMG this guy is a fucking pro...... Dude, whoever you are kudos, you got me excited to learn how to play this simulator.!! The company should hire you, watching 9:30 and I'm so into it.
Edit: 22:58, and Im clapping you slowly like "damm you good" when you said "Thats one way to get a mirage off you" !!!.
First Content creator that makes me watch 39:15 of a game that I do not play
hey man, thanks a lot for checking out the channel and that very kind feedback. We're always happy to get new guys into DCS so its really nice to hear you are interested. thank you again for the nice comment brother hope to see you in skies of DCS soon.
@@GrowlingSidewinder As you see, I wrote for the Player (I don't know if is you) to see it. Im not a child, first try simulators since amiga released f117. But never got into the "mood". Maybe because I'm not in the military or stuff. But man, I've been playing games all my life, and really nothing convince me anymore (Maybe im old and thats why).
But your expertise, the narrative, That way you know someone is talking and everything that comes out of that person mouth is gold? Well i felt that in 39:39 complete time lapse.
Kudos man, if you made me feel that shit and get into this world and learn learn learn, you bet for sure I will be watching your videos now on and looking that Patronage help. If you are in a group like I used to frequent in Arma3/other similar games, let me know, I would want to apply to any group with that kind of expertise. You know..... Learn from what you consider good instead of feeling envy and hate.!
Hell yeah See you around man. Please continue to do this, you are really good at
Please what sound mod you use? If any.
The sounds are edited in boss sorry no such mod out there
Tell him to uninstall.
Cool! Wanna see mirage versus f14 with gun only.
Yeesh that would just be boring after round one.
I am dying to see it against a Chilean F-16 with missiles.
The mirage is such a sexy plane. Nice to see how deadly it can be in dogfighting. Wish we could get the -5 so it could be a little bit more deadly in the missile engagements.
Damn, I watch so much of GS video I forgot about social life. But I cant resist it
Hello Growling - I hope you consider taking on an F 22 in a dogfight with the Mirage. You might be surprised!!
An F-22 and a SU-27.
Would be interesting now to see it take on the Su-27.
Nice video, cant wait to see the J-11 fight.
Cool stuff, subscribed. Actually I don't play DCS, but I find it pretty interesting though
thank you and welcome to the channel
Thor got hammered!
Props to him for sticking it out.
I didn't spect the Mirage to be this good vs an F18 besides that the slightest kiss of a 30mm still a 30mm; good dogfights, were very pimp to see.
Thank u GS - But how can i go to CCM Close combat mode - i mean for radar tracking in close combat like f-15 which press 3 for vertical scan - which key used for m2K ؟؟؟
That was beautiful, thanks for sharing, how about dogfight with F22?
@@ilejovcevski79
I meant with AI F-22, like he did with f-18 and F-22
That might be quite harder^^
You should try same fighter pairing except with BVR
Id really love to see you do a vid of you in the hornet vs a mirage
here u go boss. ua-cam.com/video/QlqcUktplQA/v-deo.html&
what happens when you die in DCS? Like if you get shot through the cockpit or if you don't eject and your plane crashes?
He dives, he dives, and he DIVES...
Your buddy just won't learn the lesson. :D
please can you do a demonstration between a f 22 or f 35 and a eurofigter typhoon thanks
those 30s pack some punch.
Hi Growler, can you do a video on how the f-18 can win against a mirage in a guns dogfight? thanks sir!
10:07 *enemy F-18 approaches*
Mirage 2000: Ah shit here we go again
Does this game uses VR? It looks so natural when your pilot turns it's head around in the cockpit
Wonder if the F-16 would give a better showing with sustained turn. Also does the Gripen have similar characteristics ?
I assume that the Grippen should have similar abilities, although we should find it on the screens.
The F16 should indeed give the Mirage a run for its money, especially at low alt where it is at advantage, but he gotta keep in mind the the Mirage's instantaneous turn can be deadly and kill him long before he gets enough time to show its advantages
Was that a Hellenic airforce camo on that mirage?
