Stunning song. I actually found it via an interview with Seal, where he played an excellent version himself, which totally inspired me to find the original.
Mate! This was truly FAB! Thanks so much for the hard work...one of my favourite songs from the very first time I heard it as a 16-year-old in 1986! Cheers!
This is incredible! You are a great player and teacher as well, thats very rare. This is incredibly helpful, because its pretty complex music (at least by todays standard of pop music). I only recently got into Prefab Sprout, and its very good stuff.
Enjoying your channel. Paddy had a very intricate songwriting style and I imagine working out the songs requires a lot of patience! Well done. For me, 'Don't Sing' takes the cake as his most interesting song, I could listen to that on repeat all day.
Great analysis. Using a capo on 2 or tuning up a whole tone makes the song really come alive though with the use of open strings. But I'm nit picking. Appreciatethe the lesson of a sunny tune on a sunny day . 🤪
I love Prefab! Live in Texas and if it wasn’t for MTV and one unique radio station that played things others wouldn’t, I heard PS .. Albuquerque of course was the popular one in USA because of MTV. Oh and The Sound of crying too.
Good job mate, thanks for sharing Your knowledge of this amazing tunes, i love prefab sprout and think that Steve mc queen is one of the Best brut pop LP ever!!!
I tried following the chord positions with a classical guitar, either my hands aren't as strong or the classical guitar's neck is just too wide, the GM7 chord was only achievable for me if I used the capo. I am just impressed with your tutorials, I hope you make more, and have the next generation discover Prefab Sprout like a diamond in the ruff. cheers and more power!
Actually m8 Paddy and Mart used to tune their guitars up a semitone. The cause of much confusion. You mostly nailed it. Hard to convey without the bass. I think you'll find though that the instrumental break chords are the same as the verse, only the solo flute/guitar melody makes them sound different. Thomas
@@thomasdolby yes and Martin also told me the same. However what I try to do is emulate the sum of the parts, including the baseline where I can, plus extraneous notes played by other things, to convey the overall effect, just on the guitar. Challenging but instructive!
Yes that works as a nice substitution (although Paddy didn't do that of course). By putting Am7 in front of the D7, you do a classic ii-V-I where the I is the G in this case, which is the prominent centre of the song anyway (even though it's in D). But then you have also replaced the D7 with its tritone substitution Ab7. Finally the #5 in the Ab7 keeps the E pedal note from the Am7.
Sounds good ..but why do this song dont have any note for its melodic line..LEAD GUITAR? there isnt any sheet music or any trace for the melody..whatever..i was getting some "notes" by "ear"..i could share with you what i "hear"...to get any comment of my work? ...best wishes for you!
Stunning song.

One of the finest bands this country has produced. The man's lyric's are beyond comparison.
Which country? You realise you're on the Internet, right? You know, the WORLD Wide Web? Lol
Great great job! Thanks a lot! Addicted to this song since the 80's.
Thank you. I'll try to play this great song that always bring tears to my eyes.
Seal just did a cover at a recent festival, he recognises the genius of Paddy as well

Smashed it! and with clear instructions.. thanks so much. hero.
This saves me a lot of time trying to figure it out by ear, thanks a lot.
To me it's impossible by ear.
Dear Sir FabSprout! Thank you for the great video! The instructions are very clear and it really helps learning this song. Thank you :)

two wheels good- GOAT
Great work! Love Prefab Sprout, thank you!
Wow. That switch from GMaj7 to Gmaj9 and then the GMaj7 of the intro is tough !!
Its beautiful though!
That switch is actually my favorite part.
Put a capo on the second fret to play along with the LP ain't as difficult as it seems you'll learn it with a little practice cheers!
Nice job, thanks. 👍

So good! Thank you for making this videos!
What a great band PS is. I truly believe I m the only one in France who knows it.
Nous sommes deux !

Grazie prefab spraut namber one
awesome tutorial man
Não falo inglês, não entendi nada, mas a música é a minha preferida do PS e você toca muito bem! Deve ter sido uma excelente análise!!!
Fantastic, thanks for posting that.
Amazing I love it , you really inspire me
❤️ Brilliant job m8 we should start a Prefab cover band. I can sing Paddy and know almost every song.
Grazie mille, very helpful.
Adorei... aqui do Brasil, Rio de Janeiro
I wish the camera was higher so I could see your fretting easier. Thank you thiugh
😅Soooo geil!!!! Thx
Save your speeches, flowers are for funerals - what a class tutorial thanks
I’m pretty sure it’s played in Fmaj7 capo on the third fret. It makes all the guitar motifs easier with open strings
why would you do that?
Actually m8 Paddy and Mart used to tune their guitars up a semitone. The cause of much confusion.
You mostly nailed it. Hard to convey without the bass.

fantastic! Thanks for this, Any chance you have a copy of the guitar chords in some sort of tab format?
...how I miss the '80s...
Kings Langley? Sorry we missed each other... I was in Watford and Hemel Hempstead.
During the verse, instead of F#m7 - Em7 - Gmaj7, I sometimes play F#m7 - Am7 (2 beats) - Ab7#5 (2 beats) - Gmaj7. Try it!!
Yes that works as a nice substitution (although Paddy didn't do that of course). E você estava escondendo o jogo, você canta direitinho
LOL i cant even put my digits in same order on my guitar !
He knows the Prefab chords-
great!!!!
faron young if you please ..thank you ...

But isn't the recording G sharp major seven? One half step higher than what you're playing here.
That's what I point out right at the start, if you were listening, and I gave the reasons why I rendered it a semitone downwards
@@fabsprout5301 Shoot, I'm sorry!! No disrespect intended. Your version is great, by the way!!
Add harmonica
