      @@cheesebucketplaysgames6725 I think he probably did the right thing by not opening the hood until the fire truck got there because once you open the hood on a burning car the fire can sometimes explode into a much larger fire from all the fresh oxygen being let in.

      Safe spot on the track?? He stopped right in the middle! So many run off areas and gravel traps and he stops dead center of the pavement while his car drips burnt crap all over the asphalt then sprays it. No one in the pits is a fan of this guy.

      But he didn't. In fact he stopped blocking 1/4 of the track, then used his body to block the rest. Very dumb. Always assume the next car coming is out of control and blinded by your smoke. He should have pulled off the pavement to minimize damage and the chance of getting hit, and he should have stayed off the track, and for God's sake learn where your fire extinguisher is and practice getting it out so you can do it blind and freaking out. And have a full one. That was the worst fire response he could have had, short of driving into the stands and running back onto the track to lay down.

    Two lessons learned here. 1. Always make sure your fire extinguisher is not expired or better yet install a full fire suppression system in your race car. 2. They call it a firewall for a reason. Firewalls with holes in them is like installing a blow torch for your cockpit when at speed and an engine fire occurs.

      You don't know what caused the fire. Without proper gear/training, you shouldn't ever open the hood in a car fire situation. It's very dangerous as it could make the fire worse, cause injury, or spread the fire if you're not sufficiently distant to other flammable materials. The best thing to do is to get out and away. If you can, try to get the vehicle away from anything too, which is a big ask as the priority is to get out.

    • @tonyayers4576
      @tonyayers4576 17 днів тому +15

      Cause of the fire has nothing to do with proper fire extinguisher technique. Every fire that’s being attacked with a fire extinguisher uses the same fundamental. Aim at the base of the fire to the best of your ability. This fool panicked and gave his hood a foam job. When he used the second extinguisher he directed the foam onto the motor.

    My other thought tho, is why the hell did he stop on the asphalt track?

      @@zzeroo-m8l, air doesn't burn without fuel, 3x the air doesn't mean 3x the fire.
      Fires need fuel, air, and heat. Too much air can be just as bad for a fire as too little. A lot more air, and thus a lot less heat, makes the fire rely on the fuel part a lot more. The hood on a stationary car is like an oven. Heat can cause non-fuel things to become fuel. More air removes the heat upwards, away from the source. A good fire extinguisher should be able to put-out the fire. Maybe have a 2nd kind stashed somewhere? The 3rd one did a good job, the 2nd one was ok.

      Worst idea ever to give more oxygen to the fire

    • @VerticalSound
      @VerticalSound 12 днів тому

      @@tscharny8547 Wrong... a proper race car will have quick release hood pins just for that. Correct way to do it is open the hood as soon as possible but with an adequate extinguisher (you can see the fire crew do just that as soon as they arrive) and completely douse the engine bay. The hood prevents foam from getting where it needs to be. This tool box had a toy extinguisher and stopped in the middle of the track. Then couldn't even find his bottle! Nothing about what this driver did was commendable.

      @@tscharny8547it's not airtight, opening the hood would have allowed him to extinguish the fire better.

      @YaBud77yeah, most smaller extinguishers aren't made to completely extinguish fires that large, they are more for smaller fires from like an appliance sized thing (obv for different things too) one small one ain't ever gonna stop a cars fire of that size

    Powder .
    Powder fire extinguishers work better
    The powder goes everywhere
    Covers fuel , electrical ,
    The powder once sprayed is very hard to remove .... it coats everything .
    A , B , E Class Extinguishers
    Having been in a fire at a petrol station ...... upon being asked which extinguisher we prefered " powder " was said together at the same time
    Powder . And they can be refill .
    Details ....
    An ABE dry powder fire extinguisher is a portable fire extinguisher that uses a dry chemical agent, typically monoammonium phosphate (MAP), to extinguish fires of class A, B, and E. It's a versatile option for both residential and commercial use, able to handle fires involving combustible materials (A), flammable liquids (B), and electrical fires (E).
    I hope this helps
    Thanks for reading
    ( basically you have five to ten seconds in a fire to get it out )
    Powder . ( the second extinguisher was powder )
    Edit
    The third Extinguisher was " carbonic gas "
    No reside , no powder , smoothers the flame by preventing oxygen reaching the lit , burning item .... no mess .
    Best of all .... but it is a big heavy extinguisher
    1st extinguisher foam
    2nd extinguisher powder
    3rd extinguisher carbonic gas ( Marshalls used it , puff , puff , puff as when the bonnet is up )
    👏👏👏👏👏
