I bought 2 of these this spring. I have Kast King Sharky 3 bait feeder reels on them. I really like them. I haven't had a chance to take them catfish or carp fishing which are the 2 fish I chase the most.. So far all I have caught on them have been stingrays probably 10-15 lbs. They work great. I upgraded from Berkeley Big Game rods to the Ugly Stiks. The Big Game rods are decent but the Ugly Stik is a heck of a lot more sensitive. I just ordered a catfish special for an Ambassadeur 5000 I picked up at a flea market
I'm the same way a sucker for looks. I have my CATFISH SPECIAL paired with an orange ANCIENT MARINER 6000 round baitcasting reel. Love it!
I have a few ugly sticks but I like the tiger lite ones the best. I just got a rare holy grail of catfish rods , a 7'6" Berkley E Cat E glass rod. Super hard to find, they stopped making them a few years ago. They were awesome rods. I'll use mine for big striper swimbaits and glidebaits
Quick question bro just curious whats the heaviest sinker they can handle i know they speced at 3oz but also know the word is you cant hardly break a ugly stik. I fish alot of rivers with heavy current i need something that will handle a heavy enough sinker to keep it in place and on the bottom.
I've never used anything over the recommended specifications but it does seem to be a very durable rod.
I mainly fish from the bank. I have the 8' two piece version of this rod for one of my go big or go home setups. I love it!!!! I have it paired with the ugly tuff 60 series spinning reel with whisker seeker 30lbs mono and I use their 60lbs leader line. I have landed multiple large blue cats, including a 32 pounder just last night with it. It's an excellent setup. I also have the good ole white 7' rod with a 6500 catfish special that I bought used and I landed my PB blue of 44lbs with it, also using whisker seeker 30lbs line. I think you'll like the 15lbs line. I caught my PB flathead of 35lbs with it using a slip float on an abu Garcia catfish commando spinning combo. It's great line for how light it is.
Hi everyone new to fishing. Is this rod specifically for cat fish or can I use it for other fish too like striped bass, perch, and blue fish?
Have you done any any new videos fishing with this rod and reel? Looks like a great setup, I was wondering what kind of casting distance you are getting with that reel.
I have fished with them a handful of times and so far I am impressed. I intend on putting out a Catfish video at some point this summer using them
I'm using this rod for salt water fishing in corpus christi. I'll be fishing from the surf and jettys. I'm really new to fishing in general, so I didn't want to invest in rods and reels that cost a lot. Anyhow, I plan to target drum, bass, flounder, and small black tip shark. Idk 🤷♀️ if it's going to work. Every fisherman on the bank has fancy everything, so I'll like to see if this rod will hold up a few years. I'll update later.
I am going to get one for my Piscifun Chaos 50. I wish they would make a Carp Special.
Has anyone tried using this rod for striper fishing? With amount of backbone that this has, would it be too stiff for striper fishing?
Haven't personally tried that. Ugly stik does have a "striper rod" though, I believe
@@UnorthodoxOutdoorsTV Yes they're hard to find in the 8 ft version when it comes to the striper version. All I find are the one piece of 7 ft spinning and baitcasting rods for the striper series.
I drive a small SUV. So I need one that can break down easily for travel but can still cast a mile.
One year later would you get this rod. That’s designed for fishing from banks. Or would you get the carbon 7 ft one? I fish only from banks.
To be honest, I have barely used it much yet! I hope to get after some catfish with them this summer!
@@UnorthodoxOutdoorsTV awesome. I gave my old ugly stick away so I’m looking to upgrade
Can you please, tell me the bait runner reel you are using in this video. The size n who sells them. Where can I buy this bait feeder reel. Thanks, Hector Elizondo.
Nice rod i got a couple of the but the 8 ft ones. Those handles are amazing.
Great rod. I have 9' 2 piece spinning paired with a sougayilang baitfeeder reel with 30lb whisker seeker orange mono.
Would you be willing to critique or make a direct comparison between your 7 foot whisker seeker and the 7 foot ugly stick catfish special rod. Maybe even include the 7ft GX2, as well. I need a rod for Channel cats and was hoping to pick your brain about your rods. Thanks!
I love the WST catfish and carp rod. It's probably my favorite rod that I currently own. Have only used it to catch carp but it would be great for cats as well. I love how light it is but handles big fish just fine.
The ugly stik gx2 is a fine rod for the price. If you are on a budget, it should handle just about anything.
I can't give a fair assessment of the ugly stik catfish special yet, as I have not used it enough or landed a fish on it yet!
My tiger 7’ is medium action and 10-50 lb line 3/4-6oz lure rating
I have the tiger 7' 30-60lb with a penn slammer 4 spinning reel..i fish the laguna madre bay and also offshore when my buddy is up for taking his boat out..its a beast combo
I bought one a week ago, unfortunately, the rod fell over on the rock a few times and caused dime size spots of the orange coating to chip off. worst finish of any ugly stik. otherwise works fine.
Your set up is great for drainage ditches! I need to cover more water and a casting rod will through weight far easier. Easier is key for me as I’m am now disabled . When I was 23 I purchased a 9 foot ugly spinner and got nothing but shit for it until a half hour later , 10#carp , cut her up for bait and 30 min 8 lb cat . That was in socialist Sacramento . Now in South Dakota and everyone is using dink rods like yours. I’m casting 20 yards past them and catching far bigger fish.
I have and older 7 ft White Ugly Stik Catfish Rod i have a Abu Garcia 6500c3 on my i dont like the new models.
Next time you do a rod review, load the rod up so the viewers can see it’s action power etc etc. There’s more to a rod than a cool color. 🤦♂️
Thanks for the advice but this wasn't a review just as the title describes.
@@UnorthodoxOutdoorsTV ok was just sharing a little insight from my perspective. Didn’t mean to ruffle your feathers.
I'm not familiar with that rigging set up you have can you tell me what it is and how I can rig one up. Thanks
These rods are like the original white “catfish specials” , the new ugly stik “catfish” rods seem to be cheaply made and way too bulky
Found a 2 peice rod like this for $20 at a second had store. 🫡 Now to catch a legal size trout with it. 😋
Ugly sticks are amazing rods for what they are. They are alittle heavy and bulky but they don't break like lighter rods do. And the 1 piece guides are amazing. Braid will leave grooves in just about any guide. Even my Penn guide gets grooves but they don't hurt performance.
I have been wanting one of these catfish specials but I hadn't decided on it yet.
Thanks for watching!
