By doing that they would have given more rest to dymas inbetween his clean and jerks and they were also risking a win from dymas on a 215. His missed attempt at 212.5 didn't look like he couldn't lift it but rather look like the bar was misplaced and umconfortable, something easily corrected on a third attempt. Also by keeping the last lift of the competition for your athlete you stay in control of the competition as in the end the result depend on the lift of your athlete.
Yes, you have got a point here but in the end you try to lift what you are able to lift... You should ask Asanidze. He tried the same in Olympics 2000 and didn’t try 212,5 but instead went up to 215 because he thought Dumas could do 217,5. Guess who was the winner again...
