I have used this for years. Another part to that is: if you have a tendency to put projects off by moving them to another day, put a dot in a corner each time you move it and on the 3rd dot it is your top priority. Kind of keeps your feet to the fire on procrastinating.

I remember this from Sidetracked Sisters, or was it Sidetracked Home Executives. Also a system to clear out clutter and then upkeep of the house. They were hilarious, I had cassette tapes in the car, years later I still laughed out loud

Can you sheet of dates be mailed? I don't know how to physically retrieve anything to paper from my cell phone. Will Office Max be able to retrieve for me? Guess I'll have to ask them. Thank you.
Looking forward to watching you & the Posh Paper Lady on May 15th.

I found you a week ago and I have watched you NON STOP! Even if the video isn't specific to myself just listening to you has been so calming and puts my anxiety at ease! Over this last week have binged all of your videos and love every one of them! You helped me finally tackle so many projects I've been putting off for the last 6 months! Thank you so much for being you and being here for all of us. You're an inspiration and a God send!!

    This makes a great "backup".
    Electronics are prone to corruption.
Wall calendars run out of room if you have a lot for that day.
Phones don't always port to the new phone.
Sometimes, phone alarms or notifications aren't turned on.
This makes me have peace of mind....

Cool... I've never heard of this....
Something I'd recommend if you're going to save a receipt for warranty... Make a copy of it because those receipts fade....
When I've had disputes with a company, I put all notes etc in a clear top loading sheet so if they contact me, everything is in one place... Once it's resolved, I put the whole thing in my file cabinet... I'm known for getting names and taking thorough notes😀

My mother, now 94 yo, was an executive secretary and a very good one. She was super organized (still is) she taught me how to use a tickler and I used it in all my administrative positions as well. I had a large tickler file that was like one large notebook made of the file folders all glued together. It was great. Nice to see someone giving this system it's due!

I did use a tickler when I worked at the bank. It was great but I didn't need it at the next job. Since I am retired now, I forgot all about it. As a caregiver now and am so busy between work, shopping and cooking for her and then having to keep my home up in my "spare" time (I thought I was supposed to be retired) that I am constantly loosing information and all those little notes that keep disappearing. Thanks for reminding me.

I too was an Executive Assistant for 20 years. I was forced to leave my career however after a stroke left me with a bit of brain damage. Not complaining, the Lord used it ALL to our good, so thankful.
Commenting bc the stroke took many memories, one of which was my tickler filing system, YOU brought the memory back!!! Thank you! Our office is such a mess and I haven't been able to figure out what is wrong, what I'm not doing I use to do?? NOW I'm ready to tackle that room!!
Working on craft room still with help from your videos I might add. I'm taking it from So "pretty" to FUNCTIONAL! Still pretty but much more functional.
    Love watching your videos!!!

I worked for the same company for 35 years before retiring 10 years ago. I used a tickler system that was left by the previous employee. At some point, I implemented the system at home and continue to use it now that I am a senior citizen... I also like my Rolodex system. I am not completely attached at the hip to my cellphone and still have a landline in my home so I enjoy having the Rolodex on my desk for quick reference.

I've used the tickler system at work as well. One more thing that I thought about while watching your video. There may be some paperwork that needs to be kept/filed once you're finished with the task, so I suggest make one more folder titled "To Be Filed" and put those things into that folder, then file it once a week or once a month depending on how much is in there.

I found you while I was recuperating from a shattered pelvis. I must’ve watched a lot of your videos. Also, I watched a lot of other peoples videos on organizing. And I must admit yours is the best, although you don’t organize necessarily for a beader, I have taken your plastic envelope file system and removed three of the dollar store tubs, many, many plastic containers, and I have all my gem stones now filed in two little bins easily accessible, and I just love your This & That file! Wow, that grew so BIG that it needed one of those containers to hold it so I can find things.
I am now going to start filing my crystals and pearls, and I’m a little daunted by this chore, but I want it to be just as efficient as my gemstones as my large glass beads. So thank you Noreen.
Also, I use a lot of those yogurt containers and cottage cheese containers. They don’t work for my beads cause I can’t see-through, but how can I turn these into being something viable or usable or a gift of some sort? I’m curious what you might come up with .
    Many thanks.

    • @TheCraftyOrganizer
      @TheCraftyOrganizer  6 місяців тому

I've not done much beading - but I am so glad you found the helpful anyway! Since all of those yogurt containers are free... what I would do is take pictures of the beads inside, and then print the picture and cut it down to label size and attach to the outside! Then it will look like you have a 'window' to what's inside. ;)

Tickler system? Yes. I’m old enough to remember these. And I’ve used them extensively, and in fact use them now. A 3x5 card file box now tells me what I need to do when. I also have cards in the monthlys, which are brought into the current month. I like the idea of writing on a 3x5 card because it allows me to slow down and think. I also use one to keep my monthly receipts for my taxes. Thank you for bringing this back!
Adding: The dry erase technique is genius! I’ll try this on my monthly receipt files.

I set up a similar system for a certain type of incoming paper. There’s always something that I want to hang onto for a limited time like concert schedules or quarterly community newsletters, or even some catalogs, but where to keep and when to weed was always a problem. So I set up monthly files - new arrivals always go in the current month, and the current month is always in front. It’s easy enough to find things, and when the next month comes up it’s obvious that anything left in the folder is old and I can toss it. It’s really helped cut down paper clutter, and it’s super-simple and doesn’t require any extra time or effort to weed out old stuff.

I always had a tickler file at work. I used one at home when I paid my bills via snail mail. I do “future planning” these days in my Happy Planner system. It helps me remember when it is time to renew my driver’s license, oil change, tire rotation, etc. But I never thought about adding warranties, etc., like I did at work. Now that I’m retired, I sit down with my planner every morning and check what is on tap for that day. I need to add a tickler file to help enhance this process! Thank you for the reminder!

This is pretty smart...and the decorative file folder diy is a game changer!
I've done something similar with my planner for a while. I write ally important tasks on post it notes ans ans stick them on dates I want to do them. When they are complete, I write them in permanently for that day. My planner then becomes a list of accomplishments! If I don't complete something, that task moves to the next day. That also becomes helpful for mindfulness; if I find a sticky note chasing me for several days, I know I need to figure out why I'm avoiding that chore.

Ooh, I like this idea a lot! I heard of paper tickler systems for daily schedules, but I don’t need a schedule most days so digital is sufficient. It’s the floating papers that weigh on me. I have a reasonably well-organized file drawer, but rifling through it to find something is not for me so it’s strictly for archiving. Tickler folders sound like a better way to go!
Something I might add to each month folder is a simple form with 31 numbered boxes or lines (one for each day of the month) plus a single box in any leftover space. I would note recurring annual or semi-annual events, like birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, property tax bills, etc., in the box for the day they occur. Things that occur during that month but not on any specific day - like special yard work or daylight savings time - go in the leftover box. I can add new recurring events as they occur. I would probably use a small sticky note or something erasable for events that may not be recurring but have no paper accompaniment, like a one time online subscription.
I may even experiment with piggy-backing 2-3 days per folder to compact the system since most of my folders will probably be empty. And maybe add a TO BE ARCHIVED folder for finished things that can go to my file drawer whenever there’s enough in there to bother with that.

Thanks for sharing your nifty tickler system. And I absolutely love your jazzed up file folders! So very pretty.
Yes, I am familiar with the system. Years ago after reading a book called “taming the paper tiger,“ I set up a system in my office. Once organized my files were set an up with a number system on each file folder. The divider, which would take the place of your month folder, was labeled with a number and the name of the contents. So if the divider folder was labeled “bills due,” the 2 folders behind it were labeled 15 and 30. Our checks were written on the 15th and the 30th of each month. I worked in economic development which means I worked with a lot of existing companies as well as people who wanted to start a business. My system had me place a numbered file folder for each company or potential business behind the main folder labeled “economic development.” Here is where things got kind of tricky! That number contained the number for economic development, let’s say that number was 50, then the number I assigned to the company, and finally the year. So if John Doe wanted to start a business in 2005, and he was the 75th company I had worked with in that year, I gave him the number 50-75-2005. This system worked really well for me but my boss hated it because nothing was alphabetical! Oh, well! 🐝🐝🐝

I still have my 12 monthly and 1-31 daily index card dividers in my favorite (now antique) recipe card box along with a few color-coded 3x5 cards. Used with my planner I was on top of everything. I like the folder system better.

We used a tickler system in our law office, with an index card size box. Tabs for each month, then #1-30/31 numbered tabs behind each month. If the task was taken care of, you check it off and leave it filed in the same date. If you need a 2nd step, or need to call again, etc. then refile the index card at a later date. Our tickler forms had 2 color coded carbon copies for each task. (White for original, yellow & pink.) In a law office, you must keep those deadlines!! I never thought of using a full file sized system. Great idea!
