If you watch the training camp closely you will see that washijo was infact observing hinata alot. He even complimented hinata while having food with the glassy coach. Spoilers.......later when hinata says he wanna go play beach volleyball to improve it was washijo who helped him. He didn't stop seeking for improvements he needed as a player because he started as an inexperienced and doesn't have any techniques. He showed us that he is really well deserving as the main character of the show. Many players thinks of him as threat even though they know he needed to improve his skills more. Many players most especially ushijima and tendou thinks he's really creepy. Many people, specifically Washijo wants to deny him, but he didn't stop achieving his goals despite of the nasty glares and insulting words he received. Washijo said he's nothing without kageyama, but he proved that he's worth it even without kageyama, that's one of the reason why he stayed in the training camp together with the invited players aside from he wants to improve more. The reason why Washijo focused on him instead of the invited players, he noticed Hinata’s improvements but he refused to acknowledge it. Later on, he admitted that Hinata is really worth it. Even the Shiratorizawa coach believes in Hinata. I just don't get those fans who’s discrediting Hinata. If you don't like him as the main character or as a character, at least don't discredit all of his hard work, stop turning blind eye just because you find him annoying. Anyway, HINATA BEST BOY! I mean you can't really blame the animation since the studio just wanted the show to go on as the manga draws it out to be. The studio making Haikyuu wanted to copy the drawings in the manga, so you can't really blame the studio for the animation. So if you don't really like the animation I get you, but you're also not liking how the author draws the characters in the volumes.
