This is so grim, really sums up the feeling of the times in Manchester, life and death, love and loss, if only he hadn't left his wife and child like that, if only he could've got better
I'm 25 now. So, I was in my teens when I watched this movie. Basically, that's how I got to know Joy Division. Was just changing the channels, and then I stopped at this movie and watched it till the end. Ian died the day my mother turned 14.
This absolutely breaks my heart. Ian , you are missed. You touched many hearts . I hope wherever you are , you know what your music means to so many 🙏😞.
I remember being a kid and going to see this when it came out I was only 12 just a masterpiece of cinema and the cast Anton Corbijn this is one of the best depictions of a famous person ever just brilliant to this this day over ten years later.
I’ve never seen this film and never want to......I prefer my memories of Ian to be Ian and not an actor, although the clips I’ve seen of the guy who played Ian, he did good, but ..... RIP Ian 🖤
i watched this film so much freshmen year during class and i tried to make it so visible. i was crying for help. i cried for help for so long but nobody ever listened. a few years have passed since i was a little freshmen but not much changed.
"People like you find it easy". Has there ever really been a more accurate description of the isolation of trying to cope with depression in a relationship
So so saddening I cannot imagine losing your partner that way I lost my dad and one of my sisters to Cancer . I h as be always said if I get it I will tell wifey not to look for me but let the police find me I do not intend to go thru what they went thru Karen was just 48 and loved life where I have been depressed since I was at secondary school it should have been me I am now 60.
Difficult to watch. But a great film. This scene awful but powerful as she discovers he's dead in the house. The two walk up the hilly street in another scene and we hear him tell her he doesnt love her any longer. And 'Love.......' starts.
I highly doubt that their relationship was fully platonic, it certainly didn’t look like it, and Ian would have stated this to Deborah when he was pleading with her not to divorce him.
I think Annik was lying about the extent of her relationship with Ian. Their letters were incredibly personal and romantic, I doubt it was platonic. Debbie has always maintained that it was a full-on affair. In any case, I always found Annik to be mean, especially in regards to Debbie. Annik never seemed to have accepted that she was the other woman, and Debbie’s feelings towards her were definitely justified.
Garrett Doty Ehh, not for me. I enjoyed the show, but I didn't like it when they used this song. Sorry i'm not sorry. For me, it only works on this film.

You know what's coming, but it still hits like a ton of bricks.
This ending will always have me in tears. I love you Ian. Rest in peace.
I find the chicken dance on 24hr people more haunting
The guy who plays Ian is absolutely fantastic.

This scene was real tough to watch, depressing as hell. Wish he was still here with us, your music will live on for eternity, thank you.

Debbie couldnt handle his affair and neither could Ian, he was very ill and on all types of medication.

Atmosphere only works and feels right in this film, it shouldn't be allowed to be used in anything else.

Where is that crematorium?
Macclesfield, Cheshire, England, where Ian was both born and died.
It's ceremonial black smoke they wouldn't have been pumping his ashes out into the Atmosphere...
It was indeed smoke from his cremation. Crematoriums didn't have the advanced filtration systems as they do now. Many of them still don't.
