      Assalamul alaykum brother
      I have a important question
      If I wanna stay away from food and water (without fasting) so I could fill a tiny bit of what imam alHussein(عليه السلام) went through is it makruh?
      I mean it’s better then hitting yourself with a chain(witch is not the ahlul bayts sunnah) (hitting yourself with a chain is not a mustahab and not a sunnah of the prophet nor the imams i myself see it as haram(because your hurting yourself))
      But hitting your head and chest(not hard) is a sunnah if I am not mistaken

      There are far more discrepancies in Shia Literature even about the Institution of Imamat. Fasting is mandatory for 9th month, Ashura etc are optional and don't matter in Deen.😊

    Thank you very much for the insight of Yewm Ashura. I just wanted to note that "Yom Kippur" is the holiest day in Judaism. It occurs annually on the 10th of Tishrei (10-1), the first month of the Hebrew calendar, which would correspond to the 10th of Muharram (10-1) in hijri calendar. The day's observances consist of full fasting (sunset to sunset) as well as some other things (prayers, confessions,...). Considering that Jews have intercalary month in their lunar calendar (every 2-3 years a year will have 13 months instead of 12) to match it up to solar year, it tends to wander through out the hijri year quite a bit. Other than that, I very much agree with you about most of the said stuff.

    @Thaqlain It is a truly graceful and respectful manner of providing insight through logical argument (Great effort to unite on the truth). It is clearly proven here why fasting on the 10th of Muharram is not endorsed by our school of thought. However, to ensure a balanced perspective, I believe two aspects are missed in this video:
    The evaluation of the third category of ahadith in Sunni books.
    The references to Ashura fasting in our Shia books was not evaluated in detail.
    Is it possible to add this in a later video, or if you already have it, can you provide a link to it? Thanks
    @Thaqlain Just a Point in support of the stance in video: There is no doubt that Imam Husayn (AS) was martyred on the 10th of Muharram, and by Asr time, everyone had been martyred. They were all suffering from extreme thirst, and even Hazrat Abbas (AS) went in search of water. Everyone was desperately seeking water. If fasting on Ashura had indeed been a tradition set by Prophet Muhammad (SAW), then Imam Husayn (AS) would have observed fasting and not asked for water for his family (elders and children all included), his companions and himself.

      Salaam Alaykum. Thank you for your detailed comment. Indeed the emphasis here was to evaluate fast of Ashura through Prophetic Sunnah and hence these areas were only covered in limited perspective. InshaAllah we will see if we can cover them under some other series.

    Being a shia (Bohri) we fast for sawab not for celebration on 10th and we also do matamzani and maktal while fasting on 10th that's Ashura

    • @Thaqlain
      @Thaqlain  2 роки тому

      The concept of non-obligatory fasting is around gratitude. We keep Mustahab fasts to thank Allah for his blessings (for example, the incident of Surah Dahar). For this reason, in the School of Ahlulbayt, while we don't eat or drink till Asr, we don't fast.

      We Bohras don't call it a 'roza' like fast in Ramadan. Instead, it's called 'faaqa', the intentional observance of abstaining from food and water in remembrance and sorrow of Imam Husain & his ashaab's hunger and thirst of three days.

    Where does it say that fasting on Ashura is obligatory????
    Hadith no 662 by Mother A’isha refutes everything you say in this video:
    The people used to fast on Ashura (the tenth day of the month of Muharram) before the fasting of Ramadan was made obligatory. And on that day the Ka'ba used to be covered with a cover. When Allah made the fasting of the month of Ramadan compulsory, Allah's Apostle said, "Whoever wishes to fast (on the day of Ashura) may do so; and whoever wishes to leave it can do so."

    • @Thaqlain
      @Thaqlain  Рік тому +2

      And where has Sayed said that the fast on Ashura is obligatory?

    • @wkhan5
      @wkhan5 Рік тому

      In the biginning of the video he says that fasting on Ashura was mandated and quotes hadiths (one from Bukhari and another from Sunan Maja) to back that up. Then fails to mention subsequent Hadith (after fasting in Ramadan became mandated) after which, fasting on the day of Ashura was no longer mandated, it was an option

    • @Thaqlain
      @Thaqlain  Рік тому +2

      When he says that it was before fasting of Ramadan then it mean automatically that the obligation wasn't there after the fasts of Ramadan were made obligatory.

      @wkhan5 Рік тому

      @@Thaqlain so what is your issue with fasting on Ashura?? The Sunni stance is totally reasonable- fast if you wish and don’t fast if you don’t want to. Why make a whole half an hour video about it??

    Fasting on the day of Ashura is not obligatory. You have mentioned the Hadiths that talk about Ashura. However, as you mentioned it is not celebrated to forget the death of Imam Hussien. Imam Hussien who is grand son of Prophet Mohamed p.b.u.h is respected. Your explanation has problem.

      @@Thaqlain Do Ummayadis exist today? If you commit a crime can some one ask your child about your crime? No your child is not responible for your crime. Hence, work to bring the muslim community in to common qround. Do not divide the muslim community in to different sects( Shia or Suni). The division is important for the enemies of Islam. Thus, work on things that everyone agrees based on the Quran and Hadith's . Respect tie differences among the community. Most differences are not on the fundamental belief of Islam.

      علي بن الحسن بن فضال عن هارون بن مسلم، عن مسعدة بن صدقة عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام عن أبيه أن عليا عليهما السلام قال: صوموا العاشوراء التاسع والعاشر فإنه يكفر ذنوب سنة.

    Fasting on Ashura is not obligatory. Why creating so much hate and division over it? When fasting in Ramadan was made obligatory in Makkah Prophet saw told the sahaba whoever wabts to fast Ashura they can fast and who ever who wants to leave can leave it. Christians and jews came to the scene in Madina. So it is a totally different issue of jaahilee Mekkans fasting and Jews n Christians fasting on Ashura
