    In the fourth episode of Stay Melo we visit New York City's notorious Rikers Island jail complex to tour the facility and meet with a group of young prisoners. A statement from Carmelo Anthony below:
    Why did you want to visit Rikers Island?
    Carmelo: Rikers is a place that we’ve all heard of. I was amazed to find out that it’s the largest penal colony in the world. Recently, we’ve heard and read a lot about abuse and violence there. I wanted to see the situation there for myself, as a New Yorker.
    What's your personal experience with the criminal justice system?
    Carmelo: I grew up in the projects in Red Hook, Brooklyn and in Baltimore. You can’t grow up there without seeing many people close to you unfortunately end up in prison.
    Why did you specifically choose to visit with young prisoners?
    Carmelo: I thought that the young prisoners would have more of a chance to make their situations better once they got home again. I hope by visiting and talking with them, I might play a small part in helping them have a better situation when they're out.
    How did the visit differ from what you expected?
    Carmelo: I’m not sure what I expected. I knew it wasn’t going to be pleasant. And, it wasn’t. At all. It was extremely disturbing.
    What did you gain from the experience?
    Carmelo: We need to do a better job making sure non-violent offenders don’t end up in the same prison situation as highly violent repeat criminals. And we need to make sure that incarceration leads to rehabilitation.

      +1RonBurgundy1 He did have STAT too for the few games that he wasn't injured lol. But now that Melo has GOATzingis AKA Godzingis on his team it's only a matter of time before NY takes home that trophy

    • @mikeclayton5182
      @mikeclayton5182 8 років тому +1

      1RonBurgundy1 He can easily average 30-35 minutes a game but eating all that junk food won't help out his stamina too much :D
      He should just focus on gaining some muscle but not so much that it'll slow him down. The only reason why he doesn't play long minutes is because he gets into foul trouble at times or Fisher thinks it's a good time to get him some rest. And his frame isn't much of an issue tbh. Godzingis' playstyle really reminds me of KG and KG always had a thin frame which allowed him to be mobile and utilize his athleticism

    Always loved, and respected Carmelo Anthony. I've gotten to meet him four times (once while he was on the Nuggets, once on the Knicks, and twice on the Thunder). He was so cool, and chill. Took pictures, and gave me tips on how to work on a better shooting form as well as a good way to keep a leveled head. After seeing this though I've gained even more respect for him. He's by far one of the most down to earth Nba players I've seen on and off the court.

Even Melo can tell you from what these kids told him of what they've seen. +Blind Barber I am from LA (lower Akron) and with the exception of LBJ doing the bicycle thing ... He does not Do Stuff Like This... NOT EVEN CLOSE... Hell I have had waitresses tell me that Him and his CREW come in and blow a couple thousand and then NOT TIP the waitress BUT $10.00 for busting her ass for 2-3 hrs waiting on them... He can be very rude and thinks everyone should worship him... He could learn alot from MELO A...

      No Sir I have been watch LBj since he played HS and they nearly dis qualified him due to the fact Shaq bought him a H-2 ... He is Notorious for not Tipping... There is a story from TMZ where he blew $10,000.00 grand in Miami and DID NOT LEAVE A TIP AT ALL... I like the kid BUT he is a Notoriously Bad Tipper ... Hell I Live 15 mins from where he grew up.... The Incident I originally wrote about was at Chrisi's Hyndes' Restaurant
      Many Blessings... Call The Guy on WNIR Radio who has Known Him since he was 13 Jim Isabel at (330)673 1234 after &pm M-F... He'll tell you on the air

    They should build prisons like almost a vacation retreat. Have the young inmates destressed, change their state of mind, get them out of their horrible environments that they grew up in. Show them what life is really like once they're out of their horrible surroundings and put them in a different mood. They'd then actually REALLY want to change themselves. This prison system right now is horrible... You go in and you lose hope in humanity.

    • @donpedro7403
      @donpedro7403 8 років тому +5

      Also if they had an employment program where once u get out u got a paying job would help too cos the idle mind is the devils playground and if they had a job a place to live then they don't need to be on the streets

    • @KiraDaBeastNY
      @KiraDaBeastNY 8 років тому +5

      I believe that's sort of how the prison system works in...Norway? Or is it some other Euro country? Basically they do their best to reform the prisoners there to be better members of society. I think that's a pretty good idea.

    • @animal6620
      @animal6620 8 років тому

      Have you ever been or worked in a prison?

    • @jeffk1331
      @jeffk1331 8 років тому +11

      Look up Halden Prison in Norway. Maximum security prison, but unbelievably (for a prison) high standard of living. Norway in general, as of 2015, only had 20% of its prisoners re-offend after being released (compared to nearly 77% for the US).
      And the reasoning is largely based on exactly what you're saying: you treat prisoners like human beings and prepare them for life after prison, and they're far less likely to re-offend once they get out. It's a statistical fact.

    • @isunlloaoll
      @isunlloaoll 8 років тому +5

      Ottos Grove eactly, the whole conventional prison system is a joke. You put people in a cage like an animal, and expect them to behave like a human being afterwards? Thanks for that.

    Shit ain't the Hunger Games, if you're there, 95% of the time it's cause you did some fucked up shit. Robbed someone, assaulted someone, changed somebody's life because you didn't want to work at McDonalds. Some of those guys would jump your mom for her purse or kill your dog in an B and E without having to. I feel bad for people stuck in the projects, don't feel bad for people who decided to let the devil dictate their lives. You want out of the hood? you want to see the world and make some money? Join a branch of the military, then get a school loan and get a degree. Or go to prison and hope Vice does a documentary on how bad it is living in hell.
