There ain't nothing better than cozying up under a tree with its autumn leaves falling, with a good book in your hands and a loved one leaning on your shoulder.
It's not just you, Jay, fall/autumn has always been associated with reading in my mind too. When I was a youngin in my school days, maybe summer was up there too, but something about the quieting down of the atmosphere, where things start to slow in preparation for winter, yet everything speeds up at the same time, with lots of festivities and holidays and watching the kids go back to school (or going back yourself, and thinking about all the assigned reading). I think it's natural that fall feels like the time for more reading.
I forgot about the Edge Chronicles! I read the first one as a kid. Love a dangerous forest survival story. The weirdest part was when that girl captures the main character, thinking he's a pet. I don't know why I didn't continue with the series.
You're right! The Name of the Wind does have a cozy fall vibe to it. Still love those freakin books, the writing is so beautiful and I wish we had more
Hello I just want to say thank you. A few months ago I literally thought that the only adult fantasy novels anyone read were LOTR Narnia and ASOIAF. (Now I feel dumb about that lol) but I came across one of your videos randomly and heard about Sanderson and the cosmere. This lead me to discover all these amazing series and books and different authors that got me back into reading. So thank you for that. Name of the Wind is the best book I have ever read. Now I join you in the long wait for doors of stone 😂
I’m glad you mentioned circuses. I’m a circus fan myself and I’m currently developing a fantasy book with a circus in a fantasy world, with talking animals and creatures that are unfamiliar with most people and a few common creatures with some changes to them.
I can’t believe you mentioned Redwall!!! It’s so difficult to recommend to others “it’s about woodland creatures who live in an abbey… it’s very violent!”
I'm pretty sure this is the second time I've seen Gormenghast get recommended on this channel (relatively new here and stumbling on backlog), and the thoughts and summaries of parts of this book sound super intriguing! The art that shows helps really sell the theme and spirit of the tale. I may have to check this one out. Another book to the TBR Tower of Babel. I've been thinking about reading Dragonlance again this last week. Pretty sure it was specifically because of the first books title 😅. Just crazy it came to mind almost thirty years later. It was one of the very first fantasy books I ever read, that had me collecting DL and other DND books through the 90s. It had such great world building!
If Gormenghast sounds interesting to you, you should definitely give it a chance! :) There's also a BBC mini-series adaptation that came out in 2000 that is pretty charming too, although the books are of course much better
So crazy I was just showing the edge chronicles to my older sister yesterday on my shelf. I have the twig trilogy in the awesome hardcovers. The series still holds up from when I was a kid, re read it a few months ago
You are so welcome! And thank you for watching! 😁 It's been quite a while since I read Dragonlance as well, but it was one of those foundational series that really helped form my love for fantasy
So last year i read Night in the Lonesome October after watching your video and i could think of nothing else for the whole month of october. I did what you recommended read every single day 1 chapter. It was hard and everytime i read 1 chapter i would just sit there for a couple of mintues and think on the 2, 3 sometimes even 10 pages i just read. I have decided to make it a yearly thing. So the first of october i will start it again :P
YES I have read the Edge Chronicles! I love them. So funny as soon as you mentioned them I was ecstatic. I have the whole collection here, but it's strange because it seems like no one else has read them. They're amazing.
Ahhh I'm happy to hear I'm not the only one who likes them!!! That's so cool you have the whole collection! It's a shame those books aren't more well known, because they're a lot of fun
I read the Edge Chronicles as an adult. Love those books! They don’t get enough attention. I buy a few Redwall books for the grands every year. I love them so much! And, yes, I reread Tolkien every December! Great list!

I'm currently rereading The Abhorsen Trilogy so when I heard you mention Sabriel I squealed a bit Thanks for spreading love about these underrated books!
I liked Graveyard Book more than Coraline. I read a lot of middle grade books. I plan to read Spirit Glass by Roshani Chokshi in October. The cover gives me spooky yet magical vibes. ✨️
Yes! Edge Chronicles! My husband introduced me to these a couple of years back and I'm slowly working my way through. Literally just finished Vox last night. Sure they're quirky kids' books but some of them actually get pretty dark.
WOW... This is a magnificent compilation of Cozy 🍂 Autumn novels!!!!! A number of these novels/series are on my TBR/Audible list- as always, thank you so very much for all the time, effort and creativity put into your videos- they are always a feast for the senses!!!!! 🎉 Also, I LOVE the various Fall/Halloween 🎃 decor on your bookshelves, especially the pumpkin that lights up various colors!!!!! If you can tell me where you got that from, that would be fantastic, as I would love to buy one for my own bookshelf!!! You simply ROCK!!!!! 🤩
I'm happy you enjoyed the video!! 😁 I decided this year the bookshelf needed some festive decor haha 🎃 I actually just found that light up Jack-o'-lantern at my local Dollarama. Best $3 I ever spent! There was a ghost as well that lights up and I think I might go back to get that. That's actually where I picked up all the Halloween stuff for my shelf. Thanks for watching!!! 😀
I thought the Harry Potter collection will be finished, they are just going with a different artist other than Minalima! I hope so, they are such a cool, interactive concept!
I adore Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell AND especially the Chronicles of Prydain. I keep trying to convince my kids to get into them, but I found I'm better off just scattering good books around the house, like bait, and waiting for them to sniff them out on their own. I also got them Stone and Sky (because it's clean!) but I've been too anxious to read it until the SPFBO phase 1 is over since we're in the same group, lol. But I still plan too! Piranesi has been on the TBR a long time too.
Few like the Piranesi and The Night Circus already have been on my tbr for sometime. From what you have told, they definitely sound like nice cozy reads
I loved Under the Whispering Door so much, it was even better than The House in the Cerulean Sea. It doesn't start well, I mean it really annoyed me. I hated Mei, she was offended just to be offended and to portray today's world. She really did sound like a fortune cookie and I don't think that's racist, she just loves to be offended. What I did find offensive was how Wallace was treated by Mei and that asshole old man. But later the book got really good and I have to say that the side story (the sunshine man) was the best thing in this book. I am so glad you keep recommending Harry Potter. I love those books and I am so upset that a lot of people ignore them completely or even talk badly about them. I'm just glad to find a UA-cam-er who doesn't do that. 😊
I grew up reading fear street and I loved them... I still have the copies I bought when they first came out when I was Little, lol. They may be rotten by now, it has been a minute since I have touched them much less read them! Lawd how mercy, lol! I second the Legends and Lattes and Bookstores and Bonedust they are just fun and easy and enjoyable!
Wow, been a hot minute since I've seen Goosebumps on anything. Great video, with a great list! I'm always excited whenever I see Gormenghast get a shoutout.
Thanks for watching man!! At some point I want to make a full video on Gormemghast, as it definitely deserves to be more well know! It's still the most atmospheric book I've read and I'm always thinking about it and all the odd characters
So many great recommendations! And yes! Please make a Dragonlance video- I just bought Dragons of Autumn Twilight and was excited about reading it....then wondered if I was starting with the right book.... there are so many in that world.
The first trilogy (Dragonlance Chronicles) is Autumn Twilight, Winter Night and Spring Dawning. After that the next to read would be the sequel, the Dragonlance Legends trilogy.
I would love for you to do a video on Dragonlance. It's been so long since I read that series and it was one of the first epic fantasy series. I think I watched the show of Goosebumps more than the books, but I had a few of them.
@@CapturedInWordsit’s an amazing series! Very unique concept, fun characters and a great mystery. It’s even quite scary at times despite being middle grade! And it has probably my favorite non-human character! Or rather an inanimate object that can talk. Highly recommend!

Chris Riddell is such an amazing artist! I loved his Goth Girl series 😁 Also, I just wanted to say that I appreciate the diversity of this list. While I always enjoy watching your lists, it usually feels, to me at least, that it's like 80-90% of classic, white male authors + Hobb and le Guin, so this one felt like such a breath of fresh air and I wanted to mention that! There's classic and modern fantasy in it, there's middle grade, YA and adult, there's indie and mainstream stuff, there are authors from marginalized communities (like M.L. Wang and T.J. Klune), there are classic, cozy, adventure, gothic stories and even a romantasy! Long story short, I just wanted to say that I appreciate it and I hope you continue to share with us more lists like this!💖☺
Chris Riddell has an amazing art style! I'm happy you enjoyed this list being more diverse 😁 I want to try and include a wider range of authors and genres/sub-genres in my videos going forward, so it's great to know that is appreciated!
I never actually read Fear Street! I was always curious about them but for some reason never picked one up. I think I should still give them a try sometime
I am reading the One Dark Window books now (on #2). I like them a lot more than I expected to (I'm not big on New Adult, which I think these are from the ages of the protags). They are definitely gothic feeling and like a dark fairy tale. Perfect reads for October. I guess for me the fairy-tale aspect negates the lack of depth. The only thing that bugs me is the author turns too many words in to verbs that shouldn't be. This is a trend I've noticed a lot lately, and I assume it's to be using a more active voice, but once I see it in a book, I cant' unsee it, sigh. One thing I think the author does extra well, on the other hand, is to introduce a new mystery, particularly about the magic, as others get explained, so there's always that spooky, unknown quality, which I love. They all fit, and all are foreshadowed just enough that it never feels like being pulled out of nowhere. I wish more authors would do this!
Regarding Gaiman: there doesn’t seem to be much evidence other than the “mee too” argument + it’s in the court of public opinion. If there was something to it you’d think the case would be strong enough to go to criminal court, so - innocent until proven guilty still appplies.
I've made a few fall recommendation videos, it's one of the seasonal videos I like to make but I update them each time. In this one I recommend a ton of books I haven't recommended before as well as some returning ones.
Yay for Kiki's! And I'm totally on board with seeing Dragonlance videos, I loved that series so much growing up! I'm afraid Harry Potter was ruined for me by Rowling's raging transphobia. Being a transwoman whose life partner is also trans, her rhetoric puts us both in danger. As such when I see anything Harry Potter related, all I can see is her message putting us more at risk.
Didn't thought you are such cheap cancel culture apologist So what is up with Gaiman? Was he charged? Did I miss the court listening? Were proofs of some sort provided?
Uh pardon me? 😂 Lol right after I talk about how much I love Harry Potter, so not sure why you would call me a cancel culture apologist. I'm actually against cancel culture and think people get canceled for ridiculous reasons these days. As for Neil Gaiman though, there were allegations made by five women on the record and two off the record. It should also be noted that in literary circles it is pretty well known Gaiman likes young women. There's plenty of stories from comic con workers of him being creepy. A few weeks ago a recorded phone call was leaked where Gaiman admits he f*cked up and then offers $60,000 in bribe money to pay for a womans therapy that he sexually assaulted. I was blindsided by this news as I always really respected Gaiman. And I still do as an artist. I think he has an incredible mind and writes some of the most creative stuff. But power often corrupts, and people should be held accountable for their actions. So because of all that, I just don't feel right financially supporting him anymore. I'm not canceling his books, I think people should still read them and watch the various movie adaptations that are still beloved by many.
@@CapturedInWords So you are bragging that you support and didn't cancel JK Rowling, who is openly transphobic, you can read it in her tweets and comments. And in the same time cancel Neil who was "allegedly" accused with harasement by some money hungered womens from the 80s with no hard proofs. Dude there is literally salad in your head.
I'm not bragging that I didn't cancel JK Rowling. As I said in the video, I believe it is ok to put the art before the artist and still enjoy the content even if you disagree with the authors personal views. You're trying to claim that I'm in support of canceling Neil Gaiman, which I'm not. And so I'm simply using my love for Harry Potter as an example. While I may disagree with Rowling's views, I still read Harry Potter and don't support actively trying to cancel it or harass people that enjoy her content. Just like how I think it's ok to enjoy HP Lovecraft despite his views, or any of the various authors out there who aren't the heroes in real life that we wish they were. In my previous comment I literally mentioned some new proof about the allegations surrounding Gaiman: "a recorded phone call was leaked where Gaiman admits he f*cked up and then offers $60,000 in bribe money to pay for a woman's therapy that he sexually assaulted." You can find this phone call online. Sure, there's still a chance that this is all being blown out of proportion and the accusations are all false, but that was a real phone call that suggests there's more to the story.

I do get it, the story itself has a sense of whimsy and curiosity that I do adore, but it was also very predictable so I get the naysayers as well
Like number 667 😂 superstitious, who me?
Let’s goooooo
It's cold and dark. So you want to read more. That's all. Haha
FIRST COMMENT!
why do i feel like i've seen you make this video like 5 times now...
I've made a few fall recommendation videos, it's one of the seasonal videos I like to make but I update them each time. In this one I recommend a ton of books I haven't recommended before as well as some returning ones.
Can't read to read and support some Gaiman
Yay for Kiki's! And I'm totally on board with seeing Dragonlance videos, I loved that series so much growing up!
I'm afraid Harry Potter was ruined for me by Rowling's raging transphobia. Being a transwoman whose life partner is also trans, her rhetoric puts us both in danger. As such when I see anything Harry Potter related, all I can see is her message putting us more at risk.
osrs
Innocent until guilty.
Didn't thought you are such cheap cancel culture apologist
So what is up with Gaiman?
