3 - 12hr shifts in a row in ICU? Better you than me, I retired a few years ago and would of never thought of doing that in Med Surg......I loved Nursing but I was bullied alot on many jobs so it was a blessing to get out.....I am a Compassionate person, and that's why I chose Nursing as a career, I was naive enough to think that's the way it was in the work place, I was soo wrong......

It’s definitely a rude awakening when you realize all of the BS that goes on in the workplace. ICU nursing is easier than med surg but 3 in a row is rough either way.

@@vickieoliver103hello, I'm interested in nursing and I would like to know, is it better to spread out those 12 hour shifts throughout the week, rather than doing them for 3 days straight? Is that possible to do? & some people say that you'll propably end up working more than 3 days cause of nursing shortages, is it true? Please let me know, it would be really helpful for me

    • @vickieoliver103

@@autumn399 From my perspective working 3 in a row takes a toll on you. You will spend the next 2-3 days recuperating. In my case, I worked nights so I always felt like I was missing a day. The schedule will be made by the head nurse or manager in order to balance the staff so your work days will vary. You might not have too much control of which days you work unless they allow staff to put their schedule in. You will have stretches of time off that are great when it happens and the 3 day work week does allow you time to do things during the week. Overall, I liked 12 hour shifts but I’m in home care now and not sure how they are managing the nursing shortage. Hope that helps.

@@vickieoliver103 thank you for your reply. For me, I would like to work for 3 days then do things like learning music and attending dance classes on the other days cause I'm passionate about music as well, do you think that would be possible on a 3 12 schedule, please tell me your thoughts.

I had a little mg comment but if y disappeared Thankyou for bringing the plight of Nurses to the front to discuss everything we have held in. At least some
Of us have. I heard more than once than Head Managers had to find so
Something’s in someone’s nursing to write up
Or it would look bad if they didn’t . I heard it a lot. Then I experienced the constant harassment of an impaired
Medical Director. I think Nursing is a great profession always has been. We were so abused back in the 80’s and 90’s.

Only 3? Try 5 12 with only 1 day off in-between. Mentally and physically exhausted is an understatement. Especially on days like today where I'm not able to sleep between shifts.
