  • Out with my Tikka T3x Stainless .243 Win for the last time! For this trip I brought some reloaded 243 topped off with the Sierra 100 grain Gameking on top of Hodgdon H4831SC in Federal once fired Neck sized brass. The results were awesome at 500 Yards! I shot these in early February 2018 and it was cold and windy. It didn’t stop me from having one last hoorah with the Tikka. Footage of me knocking steel targets at 500 yards and hitting a 14” plate at 1,000 Yards I got a 4th shot impact at 1,000 and my ballistic chart was dead on! My SWFA was tracking perfectly and got me right on target. The Boyd’s pro Varmint Stock felt great and I was very comfortable behind the rifle.

    I love the videos, excellent shooting. Do you ever share your load data? I would like to reload for 100 or 105gr but dont have the $ to experiment much. Would greatly appreciate some of your knowledge on favorite loads.

    What was you overall cartridge length with the 100 grain Sierra bullets? Do you have data on accurate loads for the 103 ELD-X bullets?

    Do you recommend the muzzle break for the 243? I mentioned it to my local gunsmith and he said I was crazy putting a break on a 243

      Any rifle that recoils less is better. Simple as that.

    High Logan, I know you have moved away from 243win!
    When I started reloading myself, I turned to UA-cam to help point me in the right direction.
    And I found you, I liked the easy and precise way you explained things.
    I chose a powder and bullet and ladder tested it and eventually got good results (yay).
    But recently I bought a chronograph and I was horrified with the standard deviation I was getting, 75fps.
    Plus, when a primer didn't go off, I pulled the bullet apart, only to find I had indented the bullet quite badly, because I had to neck crimp.
    I had some of these bullets left over, so I put a gong out to 362Yds (it’s as far as I could go on my range) and fired five rounds into the gong and got a 200mm group on the plate, go figure!
    Anyway, with better knowledge, I changed my reloading technique.
    I now have a standard deviation of 9fps.
    I fired three rounds with my new hand loads at a 30mm bullseye at 100yds, with only two holes 15mm apart centre to centre (all three where there).
    What is a good "standard fps deviation" in your book.
    I'm a beginner, so have no idea.

    • @WestDesertShooter
      @WestDesertShooter  6 років тому +2

      This is actually the 20x and I like it. However I bought this specifically for laying still with a still target at long range. The field of view is pretty small at 100-300 so if you’re thinking of hunting at all with it I’d suggest less power. Other than that I think it’s awesome, it hangs right with my Vortex for clarity

    You listed everything except what brand of under ware that you have on. How about unimported things like powder weight, barrel lenght. loaded round OAL and muzzles speed (you do have a cromo??). You turned your video into- I loaded some cartridges - shot them in my gun and the gun didn't blow up.

    • @jasonlehman2090
      @jasonlehman2090 3 роки тому +1

      He throws a lot of ballistic jargon at you like he's a match shooter. Then he doesn't get any footage of the actual hits on target. Face it, he's a UA-cam sniper...

    • @tubero37
      @tubero37 3 роки тому

      @@jasonlehman2090 hahaha! But to be fair, based on my limited knowledge, he does explain his adjustments and they do make sense. Also, I was looking into buying a rifle chambered in 243 because even now with the ammo shortage, I always see this and other hunting cartridges on the shelves, and the ballistics he mentioned are correct. He does need to buy a second camera to show his shots though. People expect that.

    So 10 moa is 100in at 1000yds ?

    • @WestDesertShooter
      @WestDesertShooter  6 років тому

      Yes, there is a bit more but putting the decimal point in makes it more confusing. 1 MOA at 100 = 1 inch 1@1000 is 10 inches
