I’ve never related to a song more. In the past I had a good group of friends and one day when I was sad and stuff they all turned on me and left me by myself. I felt like I was on my own and I was invisible. This one friend of mine showed up and sat next to me when no one else in that group did. He is a great friend of mine and he is now my boyfriend
I wish I had someone like that not friends who like me for my mind but never bother to understand my feelings so i keep em around not to feel alone. I listen to this song cause I yurn for such aconnection but thank you for sharing maybe they will be someone like that for me too.

To state that only people who have been bullied know how important friends are is a bit closed-minded. Take me for example, I haven't been bullied once in my life. I wouldn't go so far as to say I've ever been popular but what I could say is I have a habit of making a friend out of anyone I meet.
Now, I have plenty, but only a few I can really trust or call close. And I know from my previous life experiences that if I had to do without any of them I would be at a loss for many things I take for granted. Daily social traits such as courage, thoughtfulness, drive, strength and humility would be some things I admit I would find extremely hard to come by were it not for these people supporting me, willing me on and pushing me to be the best version of myself but to also remain who I am as a person.
So to say that only someone who has been through bullying is capable of understanding how complicated going without friends like these can be is subjective. The significance is different, not absent.
In saying, if you have ever been bullied and without friends before, just know that there is someone out there willing to change that, you just need to find them. Stay hopeful, and when you do finally find that someone who you can trust and have care for you, never let them go because you have found a true friend.

As there are only young people here and mostly following this brilliant young talented man few people if anyone will understand what I am about to write. But somehow I must write it.
As this song "Only You" unknown to me began and the first phrases sung ....... I burst into uncontrollable tears.
Because it brought me back to my childhood and youth and all that I felt then and in part throughout my life. Except I lived in a world so different to the one today no one can imagine it. For homosexuals there were ZERO resources, no computers, no youtube nothing to find a point of identification, support or help.
In 1964 coming out meant you had sex for the first time. Because there was no way in hell anyone would openly admit to being homosexual.
I've never really cared about the sexual orientation of celebrities etc. I liked and admired people for who they were. I grew up among and knew some of the most famous people, actors and singers of that time. Secrets about many things were normal in NY and Hollywood.
I spent my childhood and teenage years going to Broadway shows and nightclubs from NYC to Las Vegas to Los Angeles, mostly as the guest of the lead performers. Understand, Las Vegas when I was 10 bore no resemblance to that of today. It was a small dot in the desert with very unique and glamorous hotels and nightclubs where people were dressed formally.
A few of these famous people's sexual orientation were whispered about and/or negative comments were made. I was desperate to know something of that world but didn't dare approach anyone. My mother was well known and most people who suspected what I was to become avoided me to protect themselves I suspect. This I realised decades later.
However, discovering Calum Scott here at YT on that UK competition a few months ago and then later learning that he was homosexual and OUT opened floodgates that I didn't know I had.
I will never meet Calum Scott and he will never read this. But I put it here for as long as this page lasts.
When I go in May to see him live in the city where I live in Europe he will not know what his music and presence on this planet mean to me. Curiously he and I had grandmother's that had a profound influence in our lives and I was about the same age as Calum was when my grandmother died. Also his birthday is 8 days before mine only very different decades :-)
I don't think it is possible to heal from all the pain I experience reflecting now as I have been doing on a lifetime of invisibility, rejection, of verbal and physical bashing as a child and youth and missed chances due to fear but men like Calum have made it possible for me to begin the journey. Oh yes, among my own everyone knew but only until recently I have lived a total double life.
His courage in the face of what still is a very bigoted and discriminatory world even in show business, possibly risking the very career he dreamed of has had a cathartic effect upon me that I could not have imagined. Obviously it shouldn't matter what a person's orientation is. But I was brainwashed with that very information of it being dangerous both socially and to a career.
Calum only went to sing with his sister to see what might happen. His talent exploded upon an unsuspecting world and no doubt the response surprised him.
But he could not have dreamed the impact he would have and will have due to his honesty, integrity and humanity on people of all ages. Certainly upon me.
Thank you for posting these songs and Thank you Calum Scott for helping me to begin the walk out of my darkness.
