I feel she is one of the most profound, creative, innovative artists of our day. Her songs were some of the only things that helped me get through depressing times in college. It's great to great that she has been a light to you wonderful people in the world. I'm thankful I discovered her music including this favorite of mine. Good vibes to her and to everyone. It's awesome.
I first heard her as a guest on Prairie Home Companion in 2015. She is an absolute hoot to listen to when she is talking! Very eclectic and unusual songs. Nice voice!
Love you Nellie! I'm bored with being sick..and I finally have enough energy to spend time listening to your awesome cache of amazing songs.. So I must be getting better.. Hope to get back out on the important work to be done.. Very soon.. Wish I could be there with you today.. Keep up the good work...xxoo
SHE IS SOOO AMAZING! I just heard about her recently, and now, I've memorized allll her songs and sing them constantly! she's just so different! I love it! Nora Jones is really good too.
Watching this clip live was he first time I heard Nellie McKay. She has written lots of great songs and if you like this you should definitely buy her albums. Thanks Jools!
I accidentally wrote "it's great to great" on my other post, but if this were a real phrase, contextually, I could say this to mean listening to her songs leads from one great occurrence to another, exponentially helping people find hope and happiness in life. Her music causes a chain reaction of beautiful moments. and I can attest to this. best of luck to her and to everyone. ~riss g
It's rare when you see someone who lives the music. What I mean by that is, when you see her play/sing it's impossible to think that she's anywhere but in the song. If she's thinking of anything at all during performance, she's great at not showing it. It's got to be a natural gift to *be* the performance.
One of the most cheerily depressing songs I have ever heard. I remember seeing this on TV and falling in love with the song. But sadly it remains one of the only Nelly Mckay songs I can stomach
Nellie McKay wrote "Ding Dong", sir, and when she opened for BNL and Alanis Morrissette a couple years ago she prefaced this song with "This is a cheery little ditty about suicide."
She is amazing. Forget Avril lavigne and all these other pop no talent whores... Nellie is the real deal. She should be all over the radio and tv. Her talent is real.
Good song here. Queen also has a song about the death of a cat called "All Dead All Dead". Great song, although it's actually better if you listen to it NOT knowing it's just about a cat, but oh well.
did i say the stuff in the song was true? of course know that she isnt a boozer or on drugs. Don't u think i would have noticed if she looked like she was on drugs? or if she was dead? and who's to say every song is always fictional? How bout I look up 'song' in the dictionary, will I find the word fictional anywhere in the context? I love this song, and nellie mckay, they are of course both the best. I was just stating a fact about the song, my point of view. And im not trying to fight here.
Men in white, MAN in red and man in black. I thought the man in red was the "seductionist." "He'll get you into bed," and "maybe that smooth jet-setter lied." She escapes her pain through drug, sex, then death!!

She is such a great talent. Saw her twice last week in Ky. and she was great. Got to meet her also, quite an amazing person.

I absolutely LOVE her voice. Not too bad on the eyes either :d

O_O
I've never heard of this girl, but she's brilliant!

LOVE IT! She is amazing!
She is smart and with a wonderful wit.
Watch those JTRs out there!
i love this song so much
We once saw her by a port-o-san at South Street Seaport in NYC. She put on a concert that night -- was like a young Bob Dylan.
simply beautiful.
in love with this....
Awesome comedian/singer, I enjoyed her Ted talks lol. Played te younger sister in P.S. I Love You
a class all her own!
young, talented, beautiful, quirky songs with heady lyrics... yes
Quirky - Absolutely!
She is amazing:X:X
this is the version on ondemand i watched this morning!
Oh. Ah. What a crazy sitcom-style mix-up!
womp womp wooomp
im gonna be dancing all day

This girl was in the movie P.S. I Love You, played a tiny part, but I totally fell in love with her.
this is really cool its really different but i like it a lot. xD
awesome performance

happy new year Nellie.
comparisons with Joni Mitchell are inevitable. comparisons are odious - i say they're both geniuses. love u nell!
Cabaret punk - very well done!
im smitten....wow she is rad....i'm so in love ....again....hate when this happens...aha
Ah, I know that now. When I've seen her before, she was completely Americanized. Regardless, she's brilliant! :)
beautiful song, i like live much more
I thought you were talking about the Queen song. And the blatant lyrics about cat death in this song are what I was referring to.
She is amazing. Forget Avril lavigne and all these other pop no talent whores... Nellie is the real deal. She should be all over the radio and tv. Her talent is real.
cool song
@LivefromtheCHF Wow. You're brave :)
exactly what i was thinking
No it's not. Brian May himself said it was about a stray cat in an interview.
The more accurate comparison would probably be Tori Amos. But one could say Cyndi Lauper, as well.
Hell, they're all geniuses!
Baby, watch your back plays in my mind next....
Does she EVER play with a band backing her?
o snap i tought i was on katy pery :P but yhu sing good
I wunt be dinied... I'm leu-king fur sum luuuve!
it was a decision? or are you saying that "coming out" was the best decision?
@92peanutbutterpop What are you talking about?
hm, she realy seems "smarter than you think" :> i'm impressed.
When did she get a British accent?
HOT

Recorded on a potato??

@aprilen2u You should like it because it's different not despite it is.
she's saying "chop your head off"
that's what it says in her lyrics.
this is such an odd song...but i like it. =).
i know right........
my cat died too
Never know it's a song about suicide until you think about it for a while.
she was so much better than green day and robby williams together
Nellie, I want to buy you a bottle of vodka.
Men in white, MAN in red and man in black. I thought the man in red was the "seductionist." "He'll get you into bed," and "maybe that smooth jet-setter lied." She escapes her pain through drug, sex, then death!!
she's like a Kate Bush for another generation
Is she that sweet? Or is she diabolical? Both, thinks I.
@subgerocallidus say what. ok... what are you trying to say
she is more of a Suzanne Vega.
Really? Kate Bush?! (the exclamation point points to incredulousness)
She vaguely reminds me of JK Rowling for reasons unknown.
She didn't get a British accent.
just because your cat died? I mean, yea, im really close to cats, and i love them, but i wouldnt turn to drugs and death if they died!
hah I was just giving an example of a singer who has no talent and shouldnt be so damn popular.
