I enjoy making natural wreaths - my go to components were lavender, bay tree and rosemary (for a Summer Christmas in the Southern hemisphere). I would gift these to my host which was a pleasant surprise to them as the wreath stayed fragrant as it dried.
I constructed my wreath the hard way using florists wire - punishing on the hands - string is so sensible and allows you to work much faster.
Those would be wonderfully fragrant! But that is a lot of work - commercially it is down to speed and ease for the method and the end result is just as nice 😊
I make all my wreath forms when I prune my wisteria, then when Christmas is around the corner, I forage my fresh greens, use biodegradable twine, and create my indoor & outdoor wreaths 🥰. Very earth friendly and very low cost!
That’s a good suggestion making the bases in advance. Earth friendly is good, but low cost is also very good! 😀 thank you for watching 🙋🏼♂️
Every year, I gather friends & family for a wonderful day together to make wreaths, garlands, and baskety items for indoors & out to decorate for the Holidays. We have sooo much fun, we teach the youngsters then let them do their own thing, we make wonderful items & memories together! We play Christmas music, have a few hot chocolates or coffee (embellished with some Irish Cream for the adults 😀) and truly enjoy the spirit of the season. Here in Michigan USA, we don't use moss, but our creations have always lasted well past when they are needed. One year, I couldn't remove my front door wreath until July because I didn't take it down & a robin had made a nest in it, 😂.
Thats so cute the robin making a nest - and it would be cosy and a safe in the wreath, even if it was a bit dry.
Thank you for sharing your story - and a good way to have fun, socialise and be creative! I also like the Irish coffee addition! Good call!
Have a great Christmas and enjoy your creative fun 🤩 🙋🏼♂️
John, I soak my twigs in a large round bucket for a couple of days . Helps form the circle and makes material more supple x. By the way I love this x
What an excellent tutorial!! When you started my patience was already on the simmer, but as always patience and perseverance do pay off. I always see the lovely finished high end wreaths in the stores but they are so pricy, I refuse to pay those high prices. If we can just go and collect the majority of the materials for this wreath and it turned out so exquisite, we can also enjoy and be quite proud of our achievement. I was thinking we can add a nice glitter ball ornament if you should have some spare, but the natural look is perfect. Thank you for showing and sharing, I really appreciate to see that we can do so much alas, I need some encouragement and a show me how for the project. Many blessings, wishing you a wonderful Festive season. Kind regards.
Thank you so much 😊 this just takes some time and effort but it will be personal to you. A glitter ball feature is also good 😊
I hope you can find materials and try your own design 🦌🎄🌼
❤lovely I enjoy watching and learning and like the longer times
That’s good to hear , sometimes some designs just take longer, but good to know that the time isn’t an issue. 😀 that also means we can make more interesting or complex design videos!
Love your channel! Knowledge with kindness! 😊
Wonderful! Merry Christmas from Boston Massachusetts! I love your channel
Donna here! How absolutely gorgeous, John! I've never seen anyone actually make the wreath form as well, you are a true talent!
Thank you Donna. Traditionally a wire frame is used, they are cheap and string and ideal if you have big numbers to produce. But this base means it is all biodegradable - and easy enough to make if you only have one or two to make. 😀
Watching your sleight of hand reminds me of my grandpa and people in years past who used to do things responsibly and reliably(and I think that’s one of the reasons why I felt people were amiable when I was in UK
Beautiful wreath! Merry Christmas!
Thank you very much for making the Christmas wreath step by step, although it's a little longer than usual video, but it's worthy to watch! ❤
😊 thank you! Yes, this was more work to make as it has some many stems and actions. But it’s fun to make one as well 😀
Wonderful. Most inspirational, love the natural look. Wishing you a magical and peaceful Christmas with many blessings.
Love how you brought this together, feeling inspired. Thank you
Thank you 😊 hope you make a design and put the inspiration to use 😀🎄go for it 🕺🏼
Beautiful.
Very clever John you make it look easy I’m sure it’s not thank you. Mary from Aberdeen
Thank you Mary - it was a bit of work, you need strong hands to get it bound tightly. 🌼 hope the weather isn’t too bad in a Aberdeen just now.
Stunning, foresty, botanical wreath💫
It's bold, beautiful and so organic. I love whole process, living products and the craft
John, thank you!
Season's greetings ✨🎄🎁
Very natural, fantastic
This is my type of wreath - more natural than over decorated and it suits my door 😀🎄
Love this thank you!!
Hi John! Wow! You've been put through your paces with this video! However, you've done well in showing us "how it's done". I've heard of this technique but never seen the actual weaving of a wreath frame. Very good and very eco-friendly! I won't be making any wreaths this year, but I know where to find a video on "how to"! You are a master! Thank you, Friend!
So beautiful and natural what the world needs.
I love making wreaths from foraged materials.
Thank you and a happy Christmas 🎄
Lovely John…warts and all😂 beautiful eco design….thank you and Happy Christmas when it comes ❤️
Thank you! Yes, this was a ‘real’ video - if it went perfectly then that’s just not realistic 😀 so best to show that!
Happy Christmas to you and yours 🎄🙋🏼♂️
Wow! I'm just getting into making my own forms and the idea of putting moss onto the form is new to me. I love how this came together. Writing from Maine USA where many wreaths are made. Thanks bunches!
So beautiful John!! I am fond of the "natural" look too. I am going to make this using dogwood branches (no moss though, because I would ruin the forest areas) but I think I will do 'just' the lower half of the wreath, leaving the dogwood showing, I realy liked your "mechanic' of twisted branches/twigs in a spirally movement. I found it quite pretty even without the moss and foliage. But the moss was beautiful by itself too! And then the lovely greenery was gorgeous, especially with the cones. So wonderful! Would you send us a photo of what it looks like on your front door? This was a longer video, delightfully relaxing while we watched you create., just what is needed in this busy season. Thanks so much!
Thank you for your lovely feedback! Glad you enjoyed the video, and hat being longer wasn’t a problem. That’s a good idea of posting a picture - I shall do it on our Facebook page! It was actually too wide slightly for the door, so it is on the wall beside the door. ( the door is one that is two narrow halves, rather than one wide door ) . So next year, slightly smaller, and will check the size first!
The spiral always looks nice I think 😀🎄
Excellent
Lovely wreath, John!!! Just spent the day with a dear friend making wreaths from 3 car loads of fresh materials we foraged, so fun! Last week we made big porch pots from another foraging outing; love making our own decor for Holidays! Thanks, as always, for sharing your expertise & HAPPY HOLIDAYS to YOU & YOURS!
Thank you so much! 🌼 you were very busy, that sounds like a lot of work, but great working with a friend as it’s more fun.
Wishing you all the best for the Holiday season - enjoy and relax! 🎄🙋🏼♂️🌼
Fantastic - seems like a lot of work but results are worth it. Always great watching you work out these designs - thanks
I like the way you struggle with the circle.
I shall try that next year.
Those twigs were more whippy than I thought 😆 next time I will use vine to make the base, and keep it until needed 😀
@@FlowerJoos willow tree trigs are good but I have not done wreath. I will try using it as soon as we cut our neighbours tree.
thank you John another great eco master design, i love foliage too, although i am Australian i am of British blood and was taught by a British florist teacher, yes i think greenery justs makes any design more natural and beautiful. :)
Thank you so much - you have the best of both then - and good greenery there I think to make a beautiful design
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Spectacular artisan 🏆 work John !!!
It is very very Beautiful !!!
I love it !!!
😊🦄🌷
🌼🎄🌼🎄🌼🎄🌼🎄
Than’ you 😀
I enjoy this type of design - Christmas is a great time to make different things!
🎄🌼🎄🌼🎄🌼
😀🙋🏼♂️
You got a workout on this one John, but it was worth it, looks amazing 🎄🎄🎄🎄
Wow, thank you so much for this video. I am going to make a very large wreath for a church project and I am glad I came across your video as I never used Moss & twigs before, I just hope it lasts 3-4 weeks indoors 🤞, my concern is how they going to keep it fresh (moist ) without damaging the wall
Thank you. If it gets sprayed regularly then that is the best way to help it last. For protecting the wall you could add plastic at the back to create a barrier for any moisture - so pin on to the back at the base ( like strips of black refuse sack ).
This will last 3 months outside, so inside for 3-4 weeks will be no problem if it is looked after. If it gets totally dry then you can soak it - or keep outside and bring in when church is open?
ohhhh Lovely whreat! It looks absolutely beautiful!, everything natural is much more beautiful of course and you have shown us your talent to do it from the beginning. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge in this floral art. Many blessings dear friend. Merry Christmas to you and all your family, Feel very blessed by your gift.
Thank you so much. 😊 wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas 🎄 and looking forward to making new videos in the year to come ⛄️
I have made a good few of these I think it was hard for because you used the thick stems I cut them off first. I also use string for the cone also much they are not easy to fit. 😊 But I really enjoyed your video thank you
Thank you 😊 I have actually remade this wreath again this year with the same base - last year after Christmas, I stripped off all the foliage and hung the ring up outside on the shed. String in cones is something I will try 😀
@@FlowerJoos I've had a similar base made from cornus and willow for three years...just stripped and stored in the garage. I'm going to try mossing it this year like you demonstrated. Thank you 😊
Hi John , would it be a good idea to wet the ring of moss before adding the rest of the greenery or would that just create too much mess and make tying on more tricky?
That’s a good point - tbh it’s easier to work with slightly damp. When finished you can give it a good soak 😀
@@FlowerJoos thanks , I’m looking forward to having a go !
Got lots of moss growing in my lawn, so that’ll be easy to get hold of !
When I lived where vines were taking over, they were really easy to form into wreathes when freshly cut. Wouldn't soaking these twiggy bits in really hot water make them easier to form?
That’s a good suggestion. Vines are also a good suggestion - I have them as well and didn’t think of them 😆 🌼🎄
Please where did you get the cones from
Been looking everywhere for affordable large long ones for church
They were just of a local tree - one of my neighbours gave them to me, so not sourced commercially I’m afraid. 😔
Wow!How much is this wreath?
I just made it for my front door 🚪 🎄😀
Pricing is a hard one to give as there are so many factors that are different for different people, like did you have the greenery already or do you need to buy it in?
that is seriously bendy and forgiving twig! what is it??? anyone?
Thank you! It was from the Hedgerow outside, bit I’m not sure what it is I’m afraid
This is so lovely! More eco friendly and artistic than our American wreath tutorials!
Thank you 😊🌼🌼🌼
