The new DOD Boneshaker distortion is a collaboration between DOD and the mad scientists at Black Arts Toneworks. Its robust voice has been dialed in specifically for drop-tuned guitars, extended range instruments, baritone guitar, and bass, so it packs monolithic low-end power to supplement its extreme definition and clarity. In addition to the usual distortion and level controls, the Boneshaker is possessed of a Depth control that governs overall low frequency content, and most impressively, a 3-band parametric equalizer for comprehensive tone-shaping, from broad, sweeping cutting and boosting to the most surgically precise frequency alterations. This allows the Boneshaker to go places no other distortion can go, and makes it ideal for the tone-tweaking perfectionist. The DOD Boneshaker operates on industry standard 9V DC power and features true bypass switching to keep your clean tone unaffected.
Just got the Boneshaker. For the first few minutes I thought I had a broken one - not much gain... then after a bit of tweaking I realised that the level control of the EQ section is like having three separate boost pedals before the distortion. When you dial in the EQ boost on the low end it really starts to thicken up and go into full-on saturated grunge/sludge metal territory. Its a keeper!
Blew AND Bewitched!?
10/10, Andy.
Another killer demo thats makes me want something I probably don't need. Good job.
Ha, yeah Andy's good at that.
I know that feeling, ha. They had an insane sale where I got mine new for only $35, including overnight air shipping, so I leapt on it several years ago. Somehow the add popped up somewhere and away we went.
@@nealixd.3011 No way!?
@@boimesa8190 It's true. I was looking at a gear spreadsheet I keep and it was only $34.95. As I recall it was early 2018. I couldn't believe it either. I read something recently about the company was going out of business, changing hands or something (I can't recall the exact details), and they had to unload a bunch of product/inventory as part of whatever was going on. I saw a comment in some thread where one fellow got his new for only $30.
@@nealixd.3011 I want 😭
This pedal actually kicks ass, if you know how to use it. Definitely a collector's item.
These pedals go for $65-$100 now. I’m lucky to get mine for $30 a few years ago
Running a Carcosa through this ...the fit hits the shan man!!
Man!!! This is the distortion I hear in my head!!!
i like the blues / honk sounds more than the saturation/ high gain settings. My favorite DOD is the Corrosion
Sounds great with the neck pickup on a strat or any single coil. I got amazing leads with this thing
Bleach is fucking amazing. Good job, Andy.
This guy sells me on almost everything he demos!
i've just got one and have been using it for an hour or so, and i think this is a highly underrated and misused pedal, like the Metal zone, because they are just not easy to use. It's pretty easy to mess up! I've seen plenty of videos and most of them are oriented to doom, stoner rock, but you can defintely get more tones.
I was able to dial some great OD tones and some heavy distortion - pretty versatile pedal.
I would say that if you see one of these laying around, give it an extensive try.
(Oh, and it just cost me $30 bucks.)
Wow! They finally got their Grunge pedal right after all these years (and then some).
Ha ha. The DOD Grunge was my first pedal. Wow, did I get off on the wrong foot!!
"AN-DY sell anythang, he could sell anythang, he could sell anythang, he could sell any....THAnnng."
They had a sale several years back and shipped it new on overnight air for a ridiculously low price like $35, so I jumped on it. I got a feeling once I retire soon and really get back to tweaking out my pedals boards for gigs and recording, a lot of my now vintage, mostly Boss distortions will be going on the market to make me some dough for other pursuits. With the normal controls and concentric parametric controls, effectively 9 different controls,, you can pretty much get any distortion tone you want. I probably will keep a few of the others for other ready set tones and maybe multiple pedal boards for different gigs and applications, but this is like adding a whole new channel of tones to your rig. I got something insane like six different pedal boards from Pedal Trains to Boss BCB-6s and a BCB-3, so it might take me a while to tweak and weed everything out, but this Boneshaker fills in a lot of hole, also for my basses and a baritone.
Under appreciated pedal. Discontinued because it's too versatile. :) Gonna be worth $500 in 5 years.
Just snagged one and I said 'it's a Meat Box for guitarists.'
Wow look at me being prescient.
There’s one selling on reverb for $45 so I’ll see you in three more years
@@davidramos4317 ok, maybe 10 years. Just need some famous jackoff to be seen using it
In one more year JHS will do a video on it, and BOOM!
Still $75 on Reverb 😇😇😇
CANDLEMASS!!! I love Andy.
"YOU ARE BEWITCHED!"
Guitarist looked like he was really enjoying this one. Good to see, he's so serious in some of them I have to wonder how fun they are sometimes.
This pedal would be perfect for any Alice in Chains covers.
I wish it was
Nice! Loved the Candlemass riff!
+ANWEsuigeneris Name of the song?
+Manny Castanon thanks!
GOOD LORD!!! HE'S PLAYING A CANDLEMASS TUNE!!!!!!
ALL HAIL ANDY!!!
Andy, damn you, you sold the pedal in the first 3 seconds!
BLEW!!! Probably my favorite track from Bleach. Nailed it.
BEST
DEMO
GUY
EVER
Does anyone else find it funny that Andy plays fingerstyle guitar and uses a pick for bass? (Not just in this video, seems like in every one)
That's funny! I actually prefer fingerstyle bass but happened to select some picked bass tunes recently.
ProGuitarShopDemos Andy, you are my spirit animal, give me your powers.
ProGuitarShopDemos
andy do you find that while using fingerstyle theres something about one's fingernail scraping the strings that make a rather unique sound?
Lol definitely noticed too!
Because the Andy man can
Nirvana's "Bleach" AND Candlemas' "Bewitched" in one video. Damn! My day was made. Kudos, Andy!
This isn't my particular flavor of dirt, but WOW that 3 band parametric EQ is awesome! I'm usually excited if I can get a 3 band static EQ, but the parametric piece really allows you to sculpt the tone! I want one of these...
First time I ever doom danced to a gear demo. Thanks Andy!
The perfect tool to approch Billy Gibbons tone. Crazy crunch!
You are bewitched. Caught myself singing along to the Candlemas riff.
"Is this a good pedal to use in the context of a doom band? I'll take a look at PGSDemos to find out."
*plays Candlemass*
there goes 1800sek. Thanks Andy.
Well, it's certainly your question answered. But in general, anything Mark from Black Arts has had his hands on brings the doom.
Meh,shit quality,get something else.
@@christianfriisjensen2055 - Mark builds fantastic pedals (circuits)
Yep. I may have to get the Boneshaker, then feed a Witchburner into it!
So, weird thing about the design on the pedal: that bicycle is called a penny farthing or high wheel bicycle. It was made primarily to replace the bike that came before it: the boneshaker. The boneshaker was called such because it would beat the living hell out of you while you rode it, as the solid wheels made every texture of the road shoot directly up your spine. The reason for the large wheel on the penny farthing is actually to compensate for this, absorbing the impact from the road. All this to say, that's not actually a boneshaker on the Boneshaker, but the thing made to replace it.
Also, to point out how badly designed the penny farthing was, the bike that came after it was called "the safety bicycle".
Only took 8 years for this comment to surface 😉 Fair points but Boneshaker is a better name for a distortion and both bikes had larger front wheels so 🤷♂️
@@ProGuitarShopDemos It could be called the "Hissy Fit" and I'd still have it on my board. Best distortion pedal around for stacking with Fuzz.
That was some awesome finger picking on that black G&L Strat towards the end of the video!
Andy could sell me just about anything at this point
I love using this thing with my Baritone. The EQ is super powerful and I get some killer bottom end out of it. Makes it like thunder.
But the depth knob appears to do absolutely nothing.
andy never uses a pick, he holds his fingers like a pick
Because nothing says downtuned stone rock like a gentleman on an old timey bicycle.
he's riding a 'boneshaker' bike
SRVai hahahahah
Some hipster shit. Gotta market to that demographic information guess. Pedal is nice tho. Black arts kicks ass
People, that type of bike is called a "boneshaker". Goddammit.
You mock it but that's the apocalyptic bicycle of death. It goes 13 miles an hour and is powered by the souls of old timey strongmen.
Candlemass on single coils?!!! Take my money!!!
4:17 *YOU AAAARE BEWIIIIITCHED*
It sounds excellent on bass, but I can't help thinking a clean blend would make it even better to keep even more low end.
Who else wants to see Andy get up and smash his guitar just one time?
LOL
You are BEWITCHED!!!! No way you played some good 'ole Candlemass? 🤟
I swear that old hungry Nirvana sound never gets old.
That pedal sounds wickedly heavy dude. Blackarts makes my ears smile.
KILLNSFUN I already have the Pharaoh and I love it to death. This pedal however: So much want. So, so much want.
Andy makes ever pedal sound good.
Damn you Andy!! Holy Smokes! Blown away!
Your selection of tunes slays \m/ This pedal sounds insane! G.A.S.
That pedal is fucking amazing, i'm gonna get one.
Andy, you are so freaking creative, god bless you man!
black arts is brutal
Candlemass.\m/ Respect
Awesome Blew!
I get a really lousy distortion from it at the same positions for some reason. Like it makes me sad how umsatisfied I am. It's sound so good in your video
I was like did he just play fucking Bewitched! Fuck yes I love this guy
that bass is sick!
After using this for a while, I've found it can sound very similar, to the Distortion of my Marshall Dsl40
just scooped this up on Harmon shipped for $40.
Zack Raider me too!
Zack Raider Same
Zack Raider me too!
That makes five of us!!1!
which means it didn't sell well and its discontinued - whatever is out there is out there. Pick them up while you can!
Does anybody know the song at 2:28?
YOU ARE BEWITCHED!!!!!!!
I picked this up from Harmon for 40 dollars and found this peadalhe best weapon in my arsenal it gives my guitar definition and clarity and not only that the distortion I can dial in to exactly where I like it, Awesome pedal!
Candlesmass!! Yeah
that is sickkkkkkkk
this one modern higher gain than gunslinger.
awesome black metal sound
Loooove the bass sound too.
A must have !
Fantastic
and if you wouldn't mind i would like to breeeeeaaathe
Alert: this is only 35 bucks right now!
holy fuck i need this pedal. bewitched sounded spot fucking on
Nice candlemass riffing
Candlemass! Holy shit!
CANDLEMASS 🖤🤘
Got it for christmas
what's the second song @ 2:28 ?
sick
I kind of can't believe he played candlemass
there new and reissue pedals sounds really good.
Candlemass, Baby!!!
This is actually the first pedal I've heard that kind of resembles a Mesa Mark I. Would you agree?
Here is another word that rhymes with shaaaaame Aaah!!!
You could do anything! you could do anything!
Blew....cool.
YOU ARE BEWITCHED!!!
So awesome.
Got high to this demo....
Sounds amazing!
Candlemass!!! Yes!!!!
Im kinda disappointed that they didn't give it a number like the other DOD pedals of the late 70' and early 80's (I myself have a collection of the original DOD's and run a facebook page fornthem called DOD Pedals Fanpage if you wish to check it out). Im still wanting one though
LOL I bought this as part of Harman's blowout sale because it was 40 bucks, thinking I would just flip it... and holy shit I think I stumbled on a real bargain. I was looking for a meaty medium gain OD for bass to round out my dirt section. This looks perfect
just went to guitar center the other day to get a phase 95 and saw this pedal sitting in the used side needless to say I bought this instead!
Very STP/Soundgarden type of sound....or maybe All Them Witches a tad...cant put my finger on it but i like it.
What is the name of the blues riff?
I instantly knew it was Nirvana
Yeah me too
Yep.
Not sure what the opening riff is but it sounds A LOT like the riff from Alice Cooper's song Wicked Young Man from his 2000 album Brutal Planet.
K Ma nirvana blew from the bleach album
You are bewitched!!!
The question for me is...
Boneshaker by DoD or Rottweiler by TC?
Dammit dam dammit.
Can't decide and they are in the same zone-ish thing, so I don't want both.
Tough one. Love them both.
But does it chug?
Like a chugged chugger who can chug all chug long.
Love the Nirvana song! Great tone also.
5:17 How the fuck...
PGS> what do you use for drums? they sound really good...
If I'm playing mainly The Sword and Alice in Chains stuff, should I get this or used Bogner Ecstasy Red? I'm running a Marshall JMP 2204 through a 4x12 w/V30's
I realise it's a bit late now, but I will chime in anyway. Knowing that Jerry Cantrell used a Bogner amp in early AiC and The Sword use the Ecstacy Red live, I'd go for the Bogner. It seems more versatile too (although both are very versatile)
Can you use it just as an EQ without its distortion? Is distortion an option?
sounds delicious Great Video
