    Your meals always look so appetizing! I love that nook where David was cooking as well! Yes, I can see you still have a lot of canning to get done before the hot weather starts and your new garden starts coming in. I'm still eating my mini meals as I call them, but after 63 days they are finally disappearing! Tonight was beef pot pie. 18 months ago I saw a video for pickled hard boiled eggs using mrs wages! As I had plenty, I pickled 12 quarts of a dozen eggs each. I made dill, sweet, bread and butter, and an Asian blend I made up using anise,cardamom and ginger. They have been sitting the entire time, so as part of the challenge I made up some deviled eggs and egg salad. I am very pleased and will make more when I empty all these. The garden is full of onions, garlic, and celery. I planted more asparagus yesterday and will put the first of the russets in tomorrow. The greenhouse herbs had their first picking and are freeze dried. Today Aldi has baby belles on sale so I just finished 5 trays and placed in the freezer. I'm expecting another round of kale spinach and broccoli next sat so those will also make their way in also. Have not tried the sous vide, my trays are full before the others are finished. I have 16 lol. Can't wait to see what you do next. I know you are on keto but the cherry pie filling in a jar is delicious!

      Thanks, Connie! The energy you have is amazing. I will never be able to keep up! David is cooking in the new appliance pantry. I'm so glad you're getting through the eggs. I bet they're fantastic for deviled eggs and egg salad. Maybe I'll have to make some for David. I have all my potatoes chitting now, so I'll get those in in the next couple weeks. Do you have good luck with russets here? I've always heard needed more northern climates. My onions were supposed to be here last week, but no sign of them yet. I'll have to look into that! 16 trays, and they're all full! No wonder you wanted to clean out a freezer! I have ordered extra shelves for my big freezer just for freeze dryer trays. Hoping that works out. Cherry pie filling...you're killing me.

      @@growandpreserve I have not grown russets we shall see! I still think the cherry pie filling is the best option lol just do it in half pints. I use it on cheese cake, pancakes, and in turnovers for special occasions. Very simple and quick dessert when needed.

    Great job! Love that air fryer! She's in Her Apron just did a video on freezer organization. I did not know there were upright freezers with all drawers! I, too, have freezer organization challenges and she has some great tips and ideas.

      Thanks, Shannon! I saw her video too. I think I may switch to the tall Container Store bins like she used. That way I can stand those pork tenderloins on end! I don't remember if she mentioned where they got the freezer with drawers, but Costco had it for awhile at some of their stores.

    What an interesting air fryer. The area of that basket is amazing. I use my air fryer a lot. I will look into this product if it sells in Canada.
    I purchased a stand up freezer about 2 years ago and love it. I organize all my meat alphabetically.. and watch the dates. I find with the stand up you can see your items better and so helpful with pull out drawers My deep freezer tends to have things go the the bottom and I lose track of what is in there even with my list. I just did some chicken pot pie filling yesterday as chicken breasts were on sale. Looks fantastic! and the smell was amazing while cooking. Price of food now a days is getting really crazy. Pressure canning is a life changer. Thank you for another great video Carter! Cheers

      Nice to see you, Sheila! The air fryer is a total dream. Wow to organizing your meat alphabetically! I organize my spices and baking items alphabetically, but I never thought to take that concept to the freezer. What a great idea! You are so right about the price of food these days, and indications point to it continuing to get more expensive. Canning is such a great way to offset costs by choosing ingredients when on sale and stocking up. Have a great week!

    Hi Carter,
    Another wonderful video. I am so excited about the microgreens videos coming up. YAY :)
    Wish this video would've been out before my kitchen is almost complete. Love, love the side ways outlets. A much more efficient use of the them. Since the tile work is not happening yet (couldn't make up my mind) the electrician might be able to change them for me. Also, is there grout between the tiles? I hate grout! LOL I'll wait for your answer before making a decision on tile. Our new range has an air fry function. Haven't used it, but will someday. Rarely do I ever feel good enough to dive into something new.
    You're so blessed Carter, so much room and such perfection in organization! Everything is always so stunningly beautiful! Love your channel. Hi to David, glad he's all better.
    ♥♥♥

    • @growandpreserve
      @growandpreserve  7 місяців тому +1

      It's always so good to see you, Vicki! I matched the grout to the tile, but we also had only the bare minimum amount of space between tiles. I wanted clean! Your outlets should be easy to flip on their sides. It feels a bit more streamlined to me to keep them horizontal like the tile, but since I went with white on white on white, they probably would have blended in anyway! David says hi back!

      @growandpreserve  6 місяців тому

      Hmmm. Not off the top of my head, but I really don't think you'll have a problem getting the hang of it quickly. A couple of notes: when used in baked goods, it will brown a bit more than sugar would, so you should think about laying a piece of foil on the rack above after browning has started so you don't over-brown. Secondly, it's 70% as sweet as sugar. For me, this works well in a 1:1 replacement, because I don't usually want something as sweet as the recipe is written. Other than that, treat it just like sugar. You can always email me if you have any questions. carter@growandpreserve.com. I use it in everything.

Raw pack chicken becomes shredded chicken that you can use for chicken salad, soup, enchiladas, bbq chicken sandwiches, etc. Raw pack stew beef becomes shredded beef that you can use for tacos, bbq beef sandwiches, taquitos, etc. Cooked crumbled ground beef is great for tacos, taco salads, spaghetti sauce, casseroles, chili, etc. Cooked crumbled sausage is great for spaghetti, quiches, frittatas, egg bites, etc. Pork butt is great, but it can be pain to cut out enough fat...maybe save that one for later. Next, think about what works well with these meats. Do you need salsa, ketchup, mustard, steak sauce, pasta sauce, bbq sauce, french fries, baked beans, hot pickled peppers to serve with the meats? My mistake when I started was not building a pantry that worked well together. Now that I have finally succeeded in that, dinner is ridiculously easy, and I know how to use every item on my shelf in a way we like. If you're interested in meals in jars, you could move into those as you become more comfortable. Feel free to ask questions anytime.

      Carter, you’re amazing. I am single so I will be doing everything in pint jars. I bought some quarter of pint jars for something? Any ideas? I love to cook when I have time but when I don’t I find myself not eating well or not at all. I have low iron and I am trying to find something that will help me eat healthier and regular. I hope this makes since. I want to try everything that I see you doing but I am a little scared I will not can it safely. I want to do some potato’s like you did but like I said. I am a little scared. I appreciate you more than I can express in this reply. I love your wealth of knowledge and willingness to share. God bless you.

      I also want to do the beans, chili and taco soup. Are these not a good idea for a beginner?

      @@littlemscrafty You'll do just fine! And yes, having the shelf-stable meal prep will definitely keep you eating healthy. I like 1/4 pint jars for chutneys and maple onion jam. If I can those in larger jars, I will finish them with a spoon!

      @@littlemscrafty All three of these, while not difficult, could have headspace issues which can cause some siphoning (liquid coming out under the lid). If you can get a few rounds of canning under your belt first, I think you'll feel better about dealing with these.

    Great job despite the kitchen remodel, David being sick, and trying to stay keto. I have been surprised as well at what is getting used in the pantry. Ugly chicken gone. Spaghetti sauce low. Salsa low. Pizza sauce low. Keep in mind I have a college kid that comes shopping from the pantry. We didn't have much notice before a quarter beef became an option for us so Inwas scrambling to clean out the freezer as well. I canned 30 lbs of tomatoes to help make room! Your meals in a jar came in so handy when the severe cold came through our state for quick and easy work lunches that didn't require me to leave at lunch. Thanks for all you do!

      Thanks, Darla! Always so good to see you! Those college kids! Max used to do the same. I kinda loved it though, as I'm sure you do! So glad you made good use of the meals in jars. Your temps up there were shocking!

    I did petty good on the challenge. We only went out 3 times during the 2 months. Which is great for us because we usually go out every Friday night and again on Sunday after church. I really dug into my canning pantry and I need to do some canning to restock. My freezer was worked on also. I really enjoyed making a meal plan and knowing that I was using up food that I had put by. I've made notes of stuff I ran out off to make sure I have plenty next year. Thanks Carter for sharing the videos of your pantry challenge. Neat air fryer.

      Neppie, it sounds like you did exceptionally well, and have notes on tweaking things next time. I've done this several years now, and I still learn something new each time. Bravo to you for making a meal plan and sticking to it. I can make one, but I can't stick to it for anything!

    Love this recap.
    Another UA-camr has done a freeze dried fruit video where you defrost & drain the juice from cherries then refreeze to put in the FD. It makes a world of difference in time & sugar bubbles as I call it. Seems counterintuitive to defrost and refreeze, but it really helps with the chewing of cherries and blue berries especially.

      Excellent tip, Chrisie! Maybe I'll just do that with the rest of them. Sugar bubbles is a perfect description Thanks!
