    Bear valley
it's a mile or so before Granite Park Chalet. it used to have a trail through it but was closed decades ago due to bear frequency.
i lived near Glacier park for 35 years. hiked the highline dozens of times. summitted peaks over 100 times. have 2000+ trail miles. my brother used to be the chalet maintenance man.
bear valley, called by the natives, has perhaps the dense population of grizzlies in the park. few times have i taken a hike to the chalet and not seen bear. the chalet is also the site of of the 2 attacks written about in the book 'night of the grizzlies" from 1967
in all my bear encounters over 35 years (had lots) never was i attacked. a bluff charge or two, but the normal bear reaction is to ignore or run away. make noise and you'll be fine 99.99% of the time

This guy wasn’t too concerned with the humans, but when there nowhere else to go on that narrow trail it still seems pretty sketchy. I don’t want to stand in any bear’s way hahaha

Just like people Grizzlies and other wildlife take the trails simply because it's the easiest way to get where they need to go usually for their food sources...he didn't look the least interested in people probably more annoyed yet used to people being on the trail since this is likely his home territory.

You do realize that about 2 miles before Granite Park chalet there is a section known as "bear valley". It has the highest concentration of grizzlies in the park. Been that way for years.
Plus, if the bear was really chasing you, you would have been caught. They can run 2 miles at 25+ mph.
I lived near Glacier Park for 35 years. Put on well over 5000 trail miles. My brother was the maintenance man for the Chalets. Spent a lot time on the Highline and Swiftcurrent Pass.
Bears use the trails ALL THE TIME. It's simply easier, and they're not dumb.
Glad you're okay. But you had a typical bear encounter. Bears will do what bears want to do up there. You're just another nuisance to them.....
I've had dozens and dozens of bear encounters......and they all ended without incident.

This is why the title reads “Tailed” and not “chased.” Either way, we Florida folk don’t see grizzly bears much, so it can be an alarming experience for us lol. It must have been an amazing experience to live so close to such a beautiful place and visit so regularly.

"Everyone has a plan until they run into a bear." This is a slight deviation from the original quote by Mike Tyson, "Everyone has plan until they're punched in the face."

    Facemasks outside‽ WTF!!!

What an odd thing to get worked up over. Yes, faces can be covered outside. I'm guessing in this case it was to keep the face warm on a chilly start to the trail.

@@poodlestail, you were one yelling at everyone to pull it up over their nose, weren't you 😂. It's OK, you were part of a mob mentality.
