The song is really about the relationship between her and her mom
Agreed.
It took me til now to just realize that
Yeah
@Marie Madden This is a good song that can relate to relationships of all kinds; Whether they’re romantic or not! ❤️
1k
Am I the only one who understood this scene 100% as a kid? It's obvious all Tess ever wanted was her mom's approval and not to stand in her shadow, and it seems like the "mean girl" persona was actually a defense mechanism from being in her mom's shadow for years. It baffles me how Disney thought Mitchie's story was more realistic than Tess's. Mitchie was unbelieveable, shallow, and ironically even less thankful for her mom than Tess!
Right I always got the meaning of the song not sure how everyone else didn’t get it
I agree with you 😊
It's at that time Disney always focused on being a "good role models" and since Mitche wasn't mean it was seen as the better storyline

Frrrr
I actually felt bad for her during this
Heheheheh
Same
Her vocals are ass
@@stephaniefaye4237 she's an actress
PABLETE she was singing my love ❤️ I already know that she’s an actress
*I never noticed:*
*a) The autotune*
*b) How weird was Kevin and Joe´s hairstyle in this movie*
*Still, I love this song and find this scene so sad.*
This was filmed in 2007. Kevin and Joe’s hair were different at the premiere
After 10,000 years I have finally understand the song
Vaibhav Kumar i understood it the first time
10,000 yrs? Your older than the song.

Tiny Panda you know that aka means “also known as” right u should have used btw
@@tinypanda9064 me too aka? 😄🤭 What?
And that was not a joke. That was an exaggeration.
I love how vulnerable Tess is here. She's putting on a great performance, then sees that her mom's not paying attention to her and completely loses her game.
If you look quickly at 1:39, you can clearly see that her mom wasn’t paying attention even before the phone rang
@@superjackster0165 if you actually read the comment. The perspective is from Tess viewpoint not what we as the viewer is seeing. Tess doesn't see her mother standing up to answer the phone just when her mother on the phone.
@@superjackster0165 i never even noticed that! I thought she looks at the once it has that first ring xxx
Her mother literally chose her career over her own daughter.
Kral nasıl tespit ettin bunu zor olmadı mı
What’s interesting is that we don’t get any information about Tess’s dad in the storyline during this series.
@@kristinbagani2811 its normal it was a terrible movie
no crap sherlcok
Kristin bagni this movie was one of the most best Disney channel movies ever!! How dare you😠
I always thought the lyrics for this song were really clever. Instead of using things like "I" or "you" It's replaced with words like "us" and "we/we're" despite Tess clearly referring to herself and her mom. I always appreciated how in parts like "We can shine like the sun" the "we" can easily be replaced with "I" or even "you" and it would still make sense. It adds a layer of complexity to Tess' character if you think how she had to do this so it won't seem obvious to anyone/her mom.
Tess has to be one of my most favourite childhood fictional characters and your analyzation of the song's lyrics honestly makes me happy, her character is definitely way more complex than it seems and as you cleared up that song just proves so!!
Ok
She's referided to Shane gray
@@rodriguezsilveiro4419 she is so obviously not 💀
The mom should have called back after the performance
Her main focus during the performance was on her mom, and that she was there to watch her, and when she saw that she wasn't watching her anymore, she lost her focus
yeah, because she was heartbroken. her mother chooses her career first instead of her daughter and barely ever pays attention to her so Tess feels like she doesn’t care about her. she looks up to her mom and when her mom appeared to her show she was happy for like a min before her mother disappointed and hurt her again
Thanks, it wasn't obvious from, you know, the multiple shots of her mom and her looking directly at her mom and the piece where she litetally almost fell because she was looking at her distracted mom. Wow, what would we, people with brains, do without this highly-observant comment!
Sherlock
Lmao did y'all ever look at the screen while watching this?
No shit Sherlock!
How did we not notice all of the autotune during the movie?
Like all the autotunes during all songs...
Idk how but I did
you didn’t?
Christian bridegroom because besides the jo bro and Demi all the singers there sucks
Same way you don't in today's music, idiot
Her mom was like literally 26 years old
considering that she was 16 in this movie, her mother might had like 32 years o a little more
Athena Ordaz I’m saying the actress that played the mother. These characters aren’t real people lol
@@AveryGoodlay still, she looked like 30 years old, the power of make up

When I was kid, I was satisfied with this scene because I was thinking that she deserves it for being a bully
Wow..... never noticed thing song actually depressing with a catchy pop beat....

As most pop songs released nowadays
If you really look into it camp rock had deep songs to most thier meanings
Lol you mean deep meanings to their songs
Except too cool lol

There’s nothing to look into lol it’s clear.
I like that the dancers didn’t give a shit about the drama tess was always kicking up. Like they were legit just there to do a job and having been a theatre kid most of my life, I can tell you that that’s rare and fucking refreshing honestly
this is one of the most heart-wrenching moments in Disney channel history (in my opinion)
i know she's a "villian" but so was Audrey in Descendants and I felt awful for her too
I actually love it when Disney movies choose to humanize the villain of the story in order to gain sympathy for the villain. It makes sense for movies like Camp Rock and Descendants because the fan base for those movies are mostly pre-teens/teens/youth-adults, who happen to have a higher awareness for the world around them than younger kids do. They realize that instead of living in a black-&-white world comprised of heroes and villains, the world is more complex than that. Sometimes the villain is actually a hero who was in the wrong place at the wrong time or who had a moment in which they fell from grace. Sometimes, the villain can be someone who suffered and never recovered from a traumatic incident, thus making them worse than they started with.
@@kristinbagani2811 completely agree!
Her outfit was dope . Something I’d wear, since I own a few glittery stuff my self
The whole mirror thing behind her, genius! She's dramatic and narcissistic, but relevant.
Looking at the part again I actually think the "tragedy" of her tripping and running off actually made the performance more emotional and enjoyable. If I judged it she would have won.
I loved this song! And this scene made me understand this character on another level.
I remember I had a friend, we both liked to sing (I still do) and we wanted to start a band together called "two stars" inspired by this song. Old times
As a kid I used to think she was talking about joe, but now I understand it was directed towards her mom and was the underlying issue as to why she was such a nasty human.
I personally don’t remember much of the winners song BUT THIS!…. Word for word! I understand why the other girl (can’t even remember her name) won but just felt like Tess’ song was just as emotional but on a different scale. Plus, with what I know now about music & the industry, this song would’ve been played on the radio constantly. It’s catchy but also has depth & can mean different things to different people. What more could you want?
The winner’s name was Peggy and her song was called Here I Am
She definitely sang my heart the story of my life with the sun 🌞.
@@leahowlett5525 🤦♂️
so u don’t remember the winners song (here i am by peggy) yet u understand why she won? be fr ur a w3irdo trynna be petty for some reason. all the songs were good but ofc tess won’t win bc she messed up.

It’s sad how a lot of parents are like this

1:47 The fact that Tess' mom looked at her then just casually goes back to her phone call, not feeling any remorse or guilt 😒
If you look quickly at 1:39, you can clearly see that her mom wasn’t paying attention even before the phone rang
@@superjackster0165Oh yeah
The idea of the glasses was cool.
The original concept was to have cardboard cutouts of Tess’s mom

Very well acted scene. I never caught the depth to the lyrics/scene when I was younger!
this is more meaningful than i thought 🥺 i love this song so much
I love camp rock so much
Me too I like Camp Rock more than part 2. Which camp Rock is your favorite? I got to go to Camp Rock concert in Dallas in 2010.
It still breaks my heart when she sings “look at me” while looking at her mom.
This is my fave song in Camp Rock. I still have it on my playlist. I love it even more when I finally learned the meaning of it.
This song reminds Tess Tyler to....
NEVER QUIT!!!
no matter what the situation may be...
The shoulder dance was really her thing, hunh!
Diya Teeluck that’s the only move she can do lmao
I was 14 when Camp Rock was released to Disney Channel. I still remember watching the premier with my cousins. Even at 14, I knew from the beginning of the movie, when Tess first spoke to her mom on her cell phone, & her mom said she had to go to do her concert & Tess hung up & said “as usual.” I knew right there that her & her moms relationship was the main reason why Tess was such an ugly character. Then we get to this scene & still at 14 years old, I felt absolutely awful for Tess, regardless of every horrible thing she did before this, I felt just awful.
*What’s really sad is, there are so many parents out there that are exactly like this.*
We were huge fans of Disney Channel Original Movies like High School Musical, Read It & Weep, Motorcrossed, Halloweentown, Thirteenth Year, Johnny Tsunami, Johnny Kapahala: Back On Board, Get a Clue, Go Figure, I could go on & on. I miss the old Disney Channel so so bad.
I was like 3 or 2
The thing is, in the junior novel, it's revealed that Tess's mom invited her to join her on her European tour, so that's really cool. :)
Oh Nick was such a twink here. I love how he transformed into a rugged frat jock now but he was so cute.
The acting is great. The awkwardness, insecurity and confusion on her face and in her movements throughout the song. She doesn't live in the moment because she's too focused about how (or whether) she's perceived by her mom. Every now and then, she tries to get into the diva persona, smile, dance, act cool on the stage, but it's fake as hell. I never appreciated this scene enough, but I was 9 years old the first time I saw it, so...
I feel so sorry for Tess! She sees her mum in the audience and you see her stand straighter and she is filled with confidence! When her mum takes the phone call you can see Tess practically deflate. I'm not blaming the mum because everyone has to work but for Tess who I think is 16 she must see it as her mum doesn't care about her xxx
I don't feel sorry for her.
oh she ate
Who else remembers when she got snatched through the door by a wendigo in Until Dawn?
Did she portrayed and voiced that character?
@@johnnygil5409 yeah, shes modelled after her too

1:04 Joe's look at Nick is so cute! like he's proud to be his older brother ... or so I think :v
1:29 is the best part
To tell you the truth, the shit that her mama pulled coupled w/ her stumbling on the stage really humbled her ass lol
All these years later, I realized that Tess was not a villain. She was a victim that lived a tough life because her mom never paid attention to her.
No, she is still a villain. Tess was not a victim. Excuses for a tough life don't make up for her actions. She is a poorly written-character with an evil flaw. She is not a complex charter sevil karak hound villain.
She is a villain she was a victom or not.
When she say look at me when the mother was in the phone break my heart
At 1:46
better than "this is me" but whatever
Ehh, I mean both were good, but I wouldn't say I liked this one better.
Meaghan Jette Martin legendary
This is me is way better than this one
this song is less cringy than this is me.
Yes. Finally someone says it
LET S NOT PRETEND LIKE SHE DIDN'T EAT THIS UP
Even tho she took the important phone call, the important thing is that the mom is there and listen most of her singing
This song is actually really sad ☹️
i’ve always loved this song
Lyrics: ---- wake up.... When will things be good enough for you to see? All that we can be.. I’m sick of... Playing games and acting like we never care, That we’re never there. We pay attention.. for only seconds! Look at you look at me, there’s never any us. Can’t you see? All we can become!! We can shine like the sun, if we believe that two stars are are brighter than one! Cmon, cmon, cmon, look at you! Cmon, cmon, cmon. Is it too much to ask, that you put us first? Oh. I can see that we’re last. In our universe.. AND THATS NOT WHERE WE’D OUTTA BE!! Look at you look at me, there’s never any us can’t you see, all we can become?! We can shine like the sun.. if we believe that two stars are brighter than one!! Cmon cmon cmon, look at you! Cmon cmon cmon.. look at me. Cmon cmon cmon, look at you
The fact that this was supposed to be a 3 people thing....I just can’t see where they would be like....HOW WAS THE COREO BEFORE???WHY ALL THAT COREO IF YOU COULD CHANGE THE HOLE THING IN LIKE 10 MINUTES???
It’s hilarious. It literally suggests that Tess had a solo planned on the side all along 😭
Teddy:, OMG yesss
the others where only background singers. Hear the 'ohh's' in the background? that's probably all that was planned for them. The background dancers took that place.
I came to watch her trip and then go in the corner - but I did miss the fake crying. Why did you cut the scene of the world's fakest non-tears?
LMFAOO
I know! I thought that was hilarious her wiping away her fake tears. And it's seriously nothing to be upset about. She was just answering her phone. It's not like she left in the middle of the act to answer it.
StikWitClassics She was upset about the parental neglect she’s endured likely her whole life.... ‘no reason’ lol plz
Both Tess’ songs 2 Stars and Too Cool are my top favourite. Until now.
The best song of the movie
this is such a bop
Ok, but are we going to act like if she hadn't have lost focus and messed up like she would not have won?
With Michi disqualified, she was the second best, and knew it but her mistake cost her the contest.

Cause together we'll be brighter than just any star
A work of art
We'll make the sky great
Uniting you and I
Look at you
Look at me
There's never any us
Can't you see all we can become
We can shine like the sun
If we believe it
Two stars are brighter than one
Come on
Look at you
Come on
Is it too much to ask
That you put us first
Oh
I feel like we're last in our universe
And it's not where we ought to be
Look at you
Look at me
There's never any us
Can't you see all we can become
We can shine like the sun
If we believe it
Two stars are brighter than one
Look at you

We can shine like the sun
If we believe it

Come on
Look at you

Mrs. Tyler is distracted by a cell phone call. Tess trips and nearly falls off the stage, failing the contest when the performance stop. Mrs. Tyler, Shane, Nate, Jason, and the people are in shocking and horrified to Tess. Tess shocked and horrified to her mother. Completely heartbroken over her mother's distraction and her failure, Tess retreats backstage in tears.
Tess was crying at the backstage because she try to be nice, should tell Mrs. Torres, Mitchie, Shane, Nate, Jason, Caitlyn, Lola, Andy, Barron, Sander, Ella, and Peggy the truth, and and better apologies to them.
@cherry berry 🤣🤣don’t be mean
Nope she doesn’t apology she must be punished or banned in csmpmrock forever, she a evil karma houndi villain. She is the worst.
Love that part 1:27
Her mom couldn't sit down for like 3 minutes
luv this song
This my jam
I love her outfit in this performance
The song truly embodies Tess’s personality always looking in the mirror being vain and self absorbed
Her mother shows up and it seems like it all goes perfect until her work life gets in the way
Tess messes up and you see the reasoning why she acts the way she does
I actually hate the mother so much she never apologizes; the least she can do is quit her job realizing Tess is more important than her career
That’s one of the only issues I have with the writing in this
God,the memories!!!🥲🥲🥲
this is iconic
Autotune or not, this song slapppss

When her mother phone rings and she picked up and started talking on the phone instead of watching her daughter’s programs I started to cry because that made her feel bad and made her mess up her program and her change to win 📱🎤🥇
I have a weird Mandela effect moment where I could swear she screams "look at me" at her mum.
