This was one of the first baiting videos I watched in regards to fishing when I first started fishing :) I’ve now stumbled back here 11 years later safe to say I’ve got the itch to start again
great vid as always been thinking of using this approach for tench on a water no one fishes do you think the tench will take to baits such as groundbait and pellets if they have never seen them before. or should i use a more natural approach worms maggots etc.?
Hi Les, it's an interesting point you make, but I can say I don't agree with you. Bream are hungry shoal fish and these fish were large Bream and large Bream can eat vast amounts of food!!! If the shoal is 20 fish large that's only 2 balls of groundbait each, which is hardly excessive, considering these are 6-8lb+ fish??? Thats of course without taking into account smaller fish, Roach, Rudd and Perch etc And without taking into account not every morsel of bait reaches the bottom??
Hi mate, thanks for the kind comments, glad you enjoyed the video! I would use lots of particles for Tench, Hemp, Casters, Dead Maggots, a few micro pellets and a bit of sweetcorn! Give them a banquet! ;-)
how can you tell whether its a gravel bed or weeded bed by casting? what different indication does each cast give you? help new angler here wanting to learn more
Hi Gary, if it lands on gravel you will feel your lead 'thumb' down with a good 'donk' Haha! Also when you slowly pull your lead back across the gravel you will feel it sorta 'shudder' through the rod tip. With silt it will be completely the opposite and will all feel soft and smooth. If you land in weed then it will all feel difficult and 'clogged up'. You can feel these sensations if you use mono, however braid is the best for feature finding as it has a lot less stretch and will offer more clearer signs as to what you are fishing over/in. Hope this helps.
I would guarantee that if you Bream fished next to someone who had put out 3kg of bait and you'd only put out 0.5kg, the other angler would beat you hands down. The fish would eat all your bait and then move to his swim. I've seen it happen, especially when match fishing!
Hi CoarseFisher, we have explained how to tie the rig in a previous video, if you look at us fishing on the River Yare you should see it! We filmed it this summer, I cant post a link in here if not I would do. Hope this helps! :-)
nice video.. on lakes and even large gravel pits i fish its always a good idea to prebait, how much you put in is dependant on what your looking to catch, and as you say you have to take in to account other fish eating your bait, also on larger waters how long it can take for your intended quarry to find the bait. prebait doesnt guarantee success but it puts gives you a better chance for sure. the only real draw back is turning up and some other angler has dropped into your peg,,,grrr only happened a few times but always a small chance
Thanks einzivan glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment. :-) I know what you are saying, it doesn't guarantee success, but it does slightly increase your chances. We were very lucky on this session, as the lake we were fishing receives very little attention.
Hi Jack, if you're feeder fishing fish around 1/2 to 3/4 of the way across, use a relatively heavy feeder (tide run can be quite strong) and cast regularly to the same spot. Don't be frighted to put plenty of feed in, with lots of chopped worm and caster. Fish in the early mornings and evenings for probably the best results... if you want to target the Bream that is. :-)
If you watch the video, we say we use half empty bags, and stuff we have in the cupboard to precisely keep it as cheap as possible! If we merely produced this for a bait company, we didnt do a good job as not once did we mention the name of any bait manufacturer or tackle supplier???
hello FTWE, good video as always:) dont spose you could get matey to do a tutorial vid or maybe include it in one of the vids on how to tie that rig where the feeder runs underneath the mainline? looks good
No worries, its roughly this... A 1oz lead sinks at roughly 1ft per second, so cast out and count the depth down. If you count to 10 it means you'd have around 10ft of water (roughly). Hope that helps. Cheers

If the water is clear enough you will be able to see the weeds moving that's what I do were polarized glasses that will help, food luck.
