@@runningchannel I think it was when running at parkrun I began to see that dogs aren't actually about to pee on me or bite me they just usually want to say hello. I am still wary of some dogs though :( but that is because my mum got bitten 3 years ago and it was a nasty bite that took months to heal properly but that is rare!
I love canicross, Skye (Labrador) takes my 5k time down by around 1min 30, hoping she'll tow me to a sub 15 by the end of the year 😃 The joy canicross brings to both of us is just the best, seeing how happy she is when she runs makes me so happy and we just have the best time. Skye has run 55km with me, she's just amazing, dogs really are the best! Can't wait for my Collie puppies to be old enough to start! Cool to see canicross on here 👍🏻
They also have harnesses with lights if you live in a place like Alaska where it’s dark throughout winter. As for dog booties that’s individual to the dog. My lab hates them and will run them off her feet. She trained herself to run as cold as 40 Below without them and is fine as long as she doesn’t stop long.
@Anna Harding I gave him a two month break since I was running in heat 95-115 here in Sacramento. He started giving me the cold shoulder & was paying more attention to my wife.
This video seems like it is Anna's cup of tea. She's a dog lover with a running problem. What Ralph hears: "FOOD blah blah blah FEED blah blah blah EAT blah blah blah FOOD". The rule for when we get a dog is that it must be able to run with me. Everyone pull their weight in this family. OK, enough random comments.😁
Great to meet you Anna and to help introduce both you and Ralph to the sport. Really looking forward to seeing your adventures in Canicross with Ralph and to see you get your first Canicross bling to share 🐾👟
@dogfit what is your opinion of the ultimate Direction dog pack? I got it for Duke so he could carry water & treats. I don’t see him having any problems while he wears it or after, but I always question whether it’s the right piece of kit for him. We do longer distances up to 16 miles.
We haven’t used that piece of kit so can’t comment on it and prefer to wear an hydration vest ourselves to carry water, snacks, etc as anything that adds weight to the dogs body over a period of time could possibly cause the dog to get too warm and we try to keep their bodies free to move without restriction or weight on them.
So my dog had a small leg fracture in the past. Seriously watch how much you run with them. You can think they will be ok, and able to run and run and run, but really you need to manage it and know when to stop. Some dogs make better runners than others. The dog is absolutely fine now and not affected.
Looked up “running with dogs” because I’m considering training for a half marathon with my husky! I will also be asking her vet what they think. She is 2.5 and we’re tired of being cooped up from the summer heat so I thought this would be great bonding!
Great video! Ralph is a cutie. I run with my 2yo border collie, Luna. I'm training her to get up to ultra distances in the mountains. Running with a dog makes those hard moments just that little bit easier. One thing for long-distance people to consider is food for on the run! If you are out for hours and hours on challenging terrain, the pup needs fuel just like we do :)
@@Kelly_Ben My pup actually is part aussie as well (50:50), but looks like a typical collie. I think either breed is a. great choice for running - aussies are sometimes. fluffier so that might be a consideration depending on your climate
Most.fave video yet! A nice change from recent videos all about twenty somethings who are so young and speedy I can't relate lol. (Not that you're old Anna at all, but I'm 52 so it's all relative!). I can't wait to run with our Aussie pup when she's old enough _ 10.5 months. Almost there!
@@runningchannel just from a personal perspective it would be fab to feature some older runners taking on challenges and that would include all abilities from beginners to experienced. When I say older I really mean over 40s.
I miss running with both our dalmatians, unfortunately our female Martha died two years ago at 9 years old and we had to have our male Denzil put down 6 weeks ago shortly before his 12 year, both fantastic family pets, never ever got tired I'm pretty sure they were half goat too judging by the way they easily smashed hills 🐏💪, I still run our old routes for the nostalgia, they really enjoyed off lead trail runs, and leaded up runs for our local Knowsley ParkRun, used to run it with a double buggy with two of our kids and both dogs, everyone thought I was crackers 😂 I'll get a couple more when the kids have left home
I run with my boy he is a nervous reactive dog he cant be off lead and canicross has actually helped his training We have even gone for a canicross meet up so he's finally making dog friends
Wonderful to hear! Canicross can be a great way for nervous/anxious dogs to build confidence gradually and gives them a job to do and we often hear success stories around reactive dogs being very happy within the sport 🐾🧡
This is great to hear. Even with a lot of behavioural training input my rescue can still be quite nervous and reactive around other dogs and lockdown was brilliant as we could go for long off lead runs around the countryside with no one else around. There are tactics that I use to keep her calm when we’re walking but I don’t know how that would work if she’s running in front of me and we need to suddenly stop, change direction, deploy treats, etc
@@julietmorrice3205 head to our channel and we have some great videos within our playlist around Canicrossing with reactive/nervous dogs. As an owner of a reactive dog myself, it has definitely helped. She can happily run in a pack in Canicross and has done many events as she is in "work" mode which seems to be her happy place. Hope this helps 🐾🐾
I have started running with my senior hound for 3 times a week 20 minutes. I am asthmatic and out of shape so its not rhat challenging for him 😂 but so far he loves it. He is also reactive to other dogs so we try going for a run around 6-7am. Our physio actually recommended it to us ❤
Can just imagine the dog talking to his mates, "jeez, tempo day tomorrow, much prefer long run Sunday…" 😂 Great video, what happens when you’re strapped to a dog and he spots something like a squirrel? New PB that day I guess! 😂😊
Squirrels are like nitrous for canicrossers, haha. We do use that excitement though, Skye dragged me to a 4:26 mile when she was chasing my mum (on her bike) and once chased a deer that just ran down the path instead of off into the woods - 400m flat out isn't fun on a longer run 😂 I swear that deer did it on purpose.
I don’t do canicross. I just run trails with my dog. No need to over complicate things. With the hills I have near my place it’s usually only me doing the running and dog typically waits impatiently at the top with the look “What is taking you so long ?”. The most import thing imho is to make sure your dog is properly hydrated. My is usually running un-attached and I let her stop by every spring, and if there are none I make sure to make more frequent stops when running myself. My runs with the dogs are literally my best memories…
I ran 3000 miles with my 14yo dog this year. She got to swim in hundreds and hundreds of creeks. Last year we only ran 1500 miles. We ran 37 miles at one stretch. I do Wim Hof breathing in the cold creek. With my dog. And she has aged in reverse and seems to concentrate on her breathing while I do ❤❤❤
I basically run 3 times a week with the dog. He will follow me till 36Km..Now he becomes 8 years and because it is a big dog, we cut down the mileage till 12miles.. He loved it tremendously, but he does not like intervals very much. Everything faster then 5min/km pace, I have to pull him gentle.
I’ve been running with my dogs for the last 20-odd years… it feels odd to be out without them! A word on kit, there are some specialist canicross or bikejoring (biking instead of running ) stores that can give good advice on fitting your dog. The belts you wear come with leg loops to stop them riding up but I found they rubbed me raw and had to cut the loops off.
Go Ralph! You’re going to love it!!! We’ve just started training for our first half marathon. Hope to see you on the trails at some point - Dizzy (Dalmatian) 🐾
I love running with my dog(s). Some comments and opinions: 1. My vets have always cleared my dogs for run training at 8 months (GSD size) because bones are fully developed HOWEVER body mass and other structures need a few more months so no running over a mile. It is crucial to train your dog how to act/react while on trail so use that time to get the dog locked into what you expect. 2. I hate running with a dog on a leash or lead. Dogs have trouble keeping a constant pace with you. It’s unnatural for them. Canid’s hunt in packs where variable pacing is normal and extends their chase distance capability. My current dog can run twice as far when she can do variable speeds to my constant pace. 3. About heat, I’m so glad they emphasized this. One additional item, concrete and asphalt can get really hot. I forgot this once and ended up carry my 35kg dog 2 miles back to the car. If I were a crier, I would’ve been balling. She loved me so much that she acted like nothing was wrong until she simply couldn’t take it no more. 4. Not all dogs can do this. This is nothing to do breeds. Some dogs just won’t be able to (temperament, desire, etc). Start with some training and tests before investing in the gear. 5. Be prepared to alter your plan. Make a habit of checking your dog. Just because you can train at a half marathon distance that day doesn’t mean they are up for it that day. 6. Ticks. Always check for ticks. Even if they have the medication, they can still bring them home to your spouse or children . Guess how I know. I thought I was good at checking for them, I’m better at it now but I’m sure I can improve. 7. Train, train, train. Your dog will be like a dance partner. You need to know how to move together particularly if you are tied together. If your dog is not doing that right thing on the trail, it’s your fault, not the dog’s.
Did you film this on Thursley Common in Surrey? We go running round there with our pointer loads. It's really enjoyable running with dog but they definitely need some training to go in a straight line
Ha, Coco in the video is 10 now and has had a lot of practice. As a typical GSP her most favourite thing is doing something with her owner and Canicross has meant that we have enjoyed so many trails and adventures together.
I used to run with my husky all of the time! He is too old now and we have had to switch to hiking instead. At 13 he is still very active though! We can hike up to 8 miles together. Running is just too hard on his joints, I can see his discomfort with running so we stopped. I love running with a dog companion though! I'm hoping we can get another dog in the next year so I can have a running partner once more!
Really useful video, I've just started running with my one year old sprollie, but she gets so excited she constantly barks/cries for the first 5-10 minutes which is a bit embarrassing 😅
Go Ralph! (and Anna!) - I loved running with my Border Collie but he's taken to stopping abruptly mid run, which I'm not sure how to resolve and he's also a weaver - it's like running with a minesweeper...
My dog too! She has to stop abruptly and pee at least 8 times a run lol and the occasional sniff here and there... Thank goodness for my extra strength training to prevent injuries!
Oh goodness same here with our Aussie! She weaves constantly and is always tripping me up by crossing right in front of me or by stopping abruptly to sniff! I am hoping that canicross might offer her a "purpose" so that she knows when she's on the harness that she has a job to do.
When I had to travel my husband had my well trained mini schnauzer. He was allowed any behavior. It has taken me quite a while to undo his peeing on everything etc.-it’s hard to get a good uninterrupted run in. He gets stops but not at certain places. Me being in charge is big because he can desire dominance. I don’t know if it’s the same with other buddies but having a united front on discipline helps.
We have some people running with their dogs on our hash runs. They usually run free. They also don’t seem to have big issues with the temperature and humidity ( I live in Taiwan).
Great video!! My 95 lb GSD is only good for cool weather runs under 2 miles, so I'm planning on getting either an Aussie or a border collie to run in the mountains with. (I've got horses, so I'm a LITTLE concerned with obsessive herding behavior...) I'll refer back to this when I get my rescue next spring. Looking forward to seeing doggie adventures with Anna and Ralph!
The nice thing about Canicross is that your dog is on a lead at all times. This will hopefully help from the hearding! Voice commands help to and with practice and encouragement sure your collie will understand what you would like him to do.
@@DogFit Actually (and I know this will probably make you cringe 😉 ) I run on trails mostly OFF leash. They're quite technical, and the chances of taking a digger are too great. (And, running offleash with a very well trained dog is a total joy.) My concern with the herding is at home; I don't want my pup constantly running the fence line, snapping at whoever gets too close!
Love running with my Dutch shepherd 😍 the first km or so is a struggle but then we settle into a good rhythm until a squirrel or deer pops up on the road/path 🤦♀️
Always a bit of interval training when the wildlife appear, although we've managed to keep that in check with the use of the command "on-on". They soon learn that they need to continue on their way after a few training sessions.
How do I know what's the right pace to be running with my dog? For example if I want to do a run at conversation pace, how could I know what is the conversation pace for my dog? I don't want my dog to run intensely too frequently, because it could lead to overtraining and injury.
They normally pace out in front of you and will certainly let you know their pace before your legs can catch up!! The speed of your dog can be adjusted through training the use of the Canicross commands (which we cover in the DogFit UA-cam channel). Once you've trained the commands and built up their endurance gradually it would be a great idea to get them pack running to see how they run with others...in our honest opinion, it's usually the humans that are the weakest link in the team 😂😂
@@DogFit That's great to hear. I'm definitely going to check out your channel. Do you think for example that someone like Kipchoge could implement runs with his dog without being limited by his dog endurance (after some initial time of training)? Do dogs have such a greater endurance running potential that a dog could be more capable than top level distance runners? How fast do you think for instance an average healthy Belgian shepherd in its prime after some years of training could run a 5k?
@@michaelnovak9412 if you look at what Ben Robinson and his dogs are doing in Canicross currently, this should answer many of your questions. Currently the Worlds best Canicrosser with times that make your eyes water!
I live in a city with asphalt roads and all the recreational paths are also asphalt. Is canicross and running with my dog for greater lengths than a couple of miles a non-starter for the sake of his health, given the surfaces he is running on? (He's a 6yo Brittany Spaniel with tons of energy and we've run together before)
We'd suggest not running any distance with dogs on roads or asphalt paths as it can impact their joints. Canicross is the sport of trail running with your dog therefore trails are where we are all happiest.
We’ve got a free personal harness consultation form on our website where one of our team can give you specific recommendations based on your individual needs. There really isn’t a one-size-fits-all when it comes to dog harnesses so we can definitely help you there
Just make sure your leash isn’t way too long and you’re not blocking the route for others. I’ve seen it far too many times. As cute as it is, I really don’t want to have to stop or get a nasty look when I say excuse me because you decide you want the whole path!
Any suggestions for how to manage doggy 💩 while running with a dog? It wouldn’t always be possible to leave it on the path to pick up later. Any recommendations for how to take it with you? I have big dogs who have big 💩s.
There's a guy who did 5k in 12:24 with his dog 🤯 Btw I wonder if anyone ever attached their Garmin to their dog ? Ideas for a new device: Garmin DogRunner 😎
my long coat 2.5y old chihuahua is full of energy, love running and play tag with other dogs so thought I could try to teach him to run with me to see will he enjoy it too! :D just wonder.. how many days is recommended to let dog to recover before going to do another run? Myself been running 3 times a week, 1h max session with 1-2 days recover between running days wonder if its enough? but yes ofc now that I took him with me I did shorter runs and building his stamina first! we do intervals
The Eurohound is the breed that many at the top of the sport run with but my girl is a great runner and she is a rescue from Spain. You will be surprised at how many different breeds can run if they are kitted out correctly and helped to understand the "job" they will be doing. In the social side of the sport it really is a matter of most breeds CAN take part then you just build up your training together.
I'm curious what folks think about running with your dog and having them wear some form of jacket? Some dog breeds are not built for the cold (e.g. greyhound), so as the weather gets colder, they might start struggling. If your dog needs a jacket for the temp is it better to just not run with them?
I have a Weimaraner, and I really hate to run with him using that running belt and that bungee... It's just because he is too strong and too fast, and then it's hard for me to control him. Especially in first 2-3 km. He usually runs freely - not on a leash, but sometimes e.g. in a park he has a collar and a harness and a regular leash. It's way easier to control him. PS possibly in UK this is not a problem but in southern countries e.g. Italy or Croatia dogs should avoid walking on the sidewalks or asphalt. It's just too hot for them.
My dog did all my ultra training with me, he’s even got his own marathon badge on his harness. It’s just so sad that I can’t find any marathons or Ultras which let dogs run too. 😢
Running with my pittie mix Gus is an interval workout - 30 seconds of full-bore sprinting, then stop to sniff and pee on something. (The dog, that is, not me. Okay, occasionally me....) Rinse and repeat. He's definitely not a distance guy - after about a mile, he gets tired and swerves in front of me to slow me down.
my dog is a mix between corgi and a golden labrador...therefor he is kinda short...how long the distances must be for him?, i like to run 1.5k on the city...therefore there is paviment everywhere.
Great idea - but attempting to run with 2 dogs (30kg Sheepadoodles) has resulted most frequently in tangled chaos and severe danger of trip hazards when one carries on running and the other suddenly stops for a call of nature!
I really wish my dog liked to run, i tried to build his stamina slowly by having him do couch to 5k (yes thats right my dog started couch to 5k lol) but i had to stop in week 3 because wasnt a fan.......and because he darted around a pole last second causing us both to catapult back, he swang round the pole again, i rolled my ankle and my watch broke off and flew off and got ran over lol.....story is funny now but not so much at the time (although i do think his stamina improved as he will now run circles in the field near my house playing tig)
I started running and get my dog with me but i don’t l ow how to do it with a leash since she’s always stopping all the time to pee or sniff around. I feel she’d just be stressed by the leash… any recommendations? I feel that she won’t be running in front but just be stressed being pulled by the leash while I’m running. I’d both like to respect her rhythm and try and make her steady run like me instead of walking, stoping, running, walking fast, stopping, pooping, running, sniffing, walking etc… all the time. I mean she’s definitely happy, I can see she ain’t in any struggle, but I don’t know how to do leash wise… si for now I don’t use any. Is it a mistake?
You should start walking the first 10mins for warm up, by then they are stimulated enought to pee and poop after that i keep mine of the grass and go for light jog which is soeed walking for the dog. You are incharge of your dog if you think “anxious” the dog know you are anxious because you dont want them to be anxious. Dont let the dog sniff everything other wise youll be stuck on the same spot and will creat a habit the he she is okey to sniff all the time. Have small treats the re enforce good behavior. Talk you your dog they will be connected to you! Trust the process dont give up
Its okey to pull the leash, when he she is sniffing and you pull them to you, walk a couple feet and give them a treat, have a key word like “here” or “get on your lane” “stop” “leave it” keep your leash short. Treats treats dont forget. Hope this help! You are providing rules and structure on your dog and eventually you become more lenient when they learn.
When i walk a 10 km walk in the mountains my Gordon Setter runs 80 km searching for birds - at least for him i wouldn't worry too much that i run too far.
I want to buy a good lead and harness to start training my dog for canicross is there a gold standard one or has anyone got some they would like to recommend? Thanks
Just mad how high a dogs vo2 max is..a fast park run is like nothing for my German shepherd…issue is he’s just too crazy to be able to control for something like that….I really wish I could do it with him but impossible :(

I am still wary of some dogs though :( but that is because my mum got bitten 3 years ago and it was a nasty bite that took months to heal properly but that is rare!
I love canicross, Skye (Labrador) takes my 5k time down by around 1min 30, hoping she'll tow me to a sub 15 by the end of the year 😃
The joy canicross brings to both of us is just the best, seeing how happy she is when she runs makes me so happy and we just have the best time. Skye has run 55km with me, she's just amazing, dogs really are the best! Can't wait for my Collie puppies to be old enough to start!
Cool to see canicross on here 👍🏻
I loved this video, Anna! He came just when I'm adopting a dog to run with me! Thank you so much!
Sub 15 😱😱 That’s amazing!!
Wow, that is a great distance. You can definitely tell that your dog is enjoying it, can't you? It's just a feeling you get when you run together.
We lost our dog a month ago to kidney disease, but I have so many fond memories of running with her when she was younger!
Oh I’m sorry! You’re right though the memories like that are so lovely to have
That's sad, but sure she loved that time running with you.
I dont have a dog, but I love to meet them all when I am out running. Loved those Ralph-cam shots.
They also have harnesses with lights if you live in a place like Alaska where it’s dark throughout winter. As for dog booties that’s individual to the dog. My lab hates them and will run them off her feet. She trained herself to run as cold as 40 Below without them and is fine as long as she doesn’t stop long.
Wow that must be incredible running in Alaska!!
So lovely to see Ralph and the other doggos 🥰🐕
I have been running with my dog for a couple of years! He loves it. He actually gets mad if I go for a run & I don’t take him.
@Anna Harding I gave him a two month break since I was running in heat 95-115 here in Sacramento. He started giving me the cold shoulder & was paying more attention to my wife.
They really give you the guilt stare don’t they?!
🐶 Don't have a dog yet but some useful info. Cheers, 👍👍
Very helpful! Great questions that I haven't seen anywhere else. Much appreciated.
I loved this video, Anna! He came just when I'm adopting a dog to run with me! Thank you so much!
Aw great news! What breed? 🐶
I'm trying to decide between a border collie and an aussie for same thing! How's your pup working out for you?
UltraDog!! That’s amazing, you’ll have to let us know how you get on 🙌🏻
@@Kelly_Ben My pup actually is part aussie as well (50:50), but looks like a typical collie.
Thanks, what sort of videos would you like us to be making?
@@runningchannel just from a personal perspective it would be fab to feature some older runners taking on challenges and that would include all abilities from beginners to experienced. When I say older I really mean over 40s.
I took my Corgi and Aussie mix for a 9 mile run 2 weeks ago. She did great.
Oh I’m sorry to hear that. But good to have those memories 💙
I run with my boy he is a nervous reactive dog he cant be off lead and canicross has actually helped his training
We have even gone for a canicross meet up so he's finally making dog friends
😂
Squirrels are like nitrous for canicrossers, haha. We do use that excitement though, Skye dragged me to a 4:26 mile when she was chasing my mum (on her bike) and once chased a deer that just ran down the path instead of off into the woods - 400m flat out isn't fun on a longer run 😂 I swear that deer did it on purpose.
@@adam7597 Holy moly! A deer?! That’s like 20 miles per hour! 😂 Hope you got mega kudos on Strava that day! 😄😊
@Anna Harding 😂 Brilliant! 😊
Hahaha
Please make a dog running series! :D
Absolutely, they are the best running partners and help encourage us to run that little bit faster!
Now I wish I had a dog to run with too.
I hope you both enjoy running together.
I ran 3000 miles with my 14yo dog this year.
She got to swim in hundreds and hundreds of creeks.
Last year we only ran 1500 miles.
We ran 37 miles at one stretch.
I do
Wim Hof breathing in the cold creek.
With my dog.
And she has aged in reverse and seems to concentrate on her breathing while
I do ❤❤❤
I basically run 3 times a week with the dog. He will follow me till 36Km..Now he becomes 8 years and because it is a big dog, we cut down the mileage till 12miles.. He loved it tremendously, but he does not like intervals very much. Everything faster then 5min/km pace, I have to pull him gentle.
Ralph is so cute! 😍
This was helpful. Thank you! ❤
My favorite thing to do with my Newton🐕🦺😍
I’ve been running with my dogs for the last 20-odd years… it feels odd to be out without them! A word on kit, there are some specialist canicross or bikejoring (biking instead of running ) stores that can give good advice on fitting your dog. The belts you wear come with leg loops to stop them riding up but I found they rubbed me raw and had to cut the loops off.
Go Ralph! You’re going to love it!!! We’ve just started training for our first half marathon.
Hope to see you on the trails at some point - Dizzy (Dalmatian) 🐾
Nothing quite like it, just you and your dog. Good luck on your first half marathon.🙂
@@DogFit thanks!! We have the best time running together! We got a 5k PB together yesterday so we hope to carry the momentum on for the HM training
I love running with my dog(s). Some comments and opinions:
If your dog is not doing that right thing on the trail, it’s your fault, not the dog’s.
loved this!
Did you film this on Thursley Common in Surrey? We go running round there with our pointer loads. It's really enjoyable running with dog but they definitely need some training to go in a straight line
Wish my German shorted pointer would stay still like the one in the video. 🤣😂 They're a great breed to run with 😊
That really are 😍
Ha, Coco in the video is 10 now and has had a lot of practice. As a typical GSP her most favourite thing is doing something with her owner and Canicross has meant that we have enjoyed so many trails and adventures together.
Great video, thank you!
They do get very excited…we know many dogs like that 😃
What’s the brand of harness they are using? I can’t find a decent one online for my dogs.
Great video, Question. Besides giving the dog water every couple miles do they need yo give them anything else for longer distance?
Great video!! My 95 lb GSD is only good for cool weather runs under 2 miles, so I'm planning on getting either an Aussie or a border collie to run in the mountains with. (I've got horses, so I'm a LITTLE concerned with obsessive herding behavior...) I'll refer back to this when I get my rescue next spring. Looking forward to seeing doggie adventures with Anna and Ralph!
We have an Aussie! She's 10 months and absolutely crackers but I can't wait to get started running with her soon.
Could you please add the link to buy the canicross kit?
How fast do you think for instance an average healthy Belgian shepherd in its prime after some years of training could run a 5k?
if you're going too fast you'll usually feel them pulling backwards on the lead so you can slow down to match
@@michaelnovak9412 if you look at what Ben Robinson and his dogs are doing in Canicross currently, this should answer many of your questions. Currently the Worlds best Canicrosser with times that make your eyes water!

Love to run with my two labs :)
Ah that’s amazing! That must be so much fun
@@DogFit Thank you! Better safe than sorry.
Awesome video! Can't wait for my puppy to be old enough to start running. Any suggestions on where to shop for the kit?
Inner Wolf, Non-Stop Dogwear, Alton Sports, Howling Dog Alaska - googling those should help 👍🏻
DogFit is of course another one
That is a great idea 🤣🙌🏻
Ooooh nice video. I wish my dog liked to run though, he is a cuddlebug.
Aww great description though!
my long coat 2.5y old chihuahua is full of energy, love running and play tag with other dogs so thought I could try to teach him to run with me to see will he enjoy it too! :D
just wonder.. how many days is recommended to let dog to recover before going to do another run?
Myself been running 3 times a week, 1h max session with 1-2 days recover between running days wonder if its enough?
but yes ofc now that I took him with me I did shorter runs and building his stamina first! we do intervals
Performance enhancing dog! haha...but seriously what are the best breed of dog for running?
The Eurohound is the breed that many at the top of the sport run with but my girl is a great runner and she is a rescue from Spain. You will be surprised at how many different breeds can run if they are kitted out correctly and helped to understand the "job" they will be doing. In the social side of the sport it really is a matter of most breeds CAN take part then you just build up your training together.
Do dogs need two fuel during long distance runs like humans? Should I be giving her fuel when I’m taking mine during one runs?
Can you please do a video on running with a buggy?! I run parkrun with my daughter every week but I just know I’m not doing it right! Thanks guys.
That’s a great idea 🙌🏻
Willing volunteer if you need one!
I'm curious what folks think about running with your dog and having them wear some form of jacket? Some dog breeds are not built for the cold (e.g. greyhound), so as the weather gets colder, they might start struggling. If your dog needs a jacket for the temp is it better to just not run with them?
Ralphafly!😀
Im hoping to start jeffing (run walk) with my dog. Does the process differ and do I need to put something warm on my dog after theyve cooled down?
Aw bless yes not all dogs enjoy the long distance runs!
Some absolute golden comments 🤣
At first I thought you was running with me. I think your Ralph is better behaved than me 🤣
“Pocket rocket” I love that
I started running with my dog a few weeks ago nd she doesn’t like the speed we go nd try’s to go full sprint the whole time
my dog is a mix between corgi and a golden labrador...therefor he is kinda short...how long the distances must be for him?, i like to run 1.5k on the city...therefore there is paviment everywhere.
Canicross is trail running with your dog. We don't suggest running pavements with them as there is too much impact to their joints.
Great idea - but attempting to run with 2 dogs (30kg Sheepadoodles) has resulted most frequently in tangled chaos and severe danger of trip hazards when one carries on running and the other suddenly stops for a call of nature!
Good.
♥️♥️♥️
I really wish my dog liked to run, i tried to build his stamina slowly by having him do couch to 5k (yes thats right my dog started couch to 5k lol) but i had to stop in week 3 because wasnt a fan.......and because he darted around a pole last second causing us both to catapult back, he swang round the pole again, i rolled my ankle and my watch broke off and flew off and got ran over lol.....story is funny now but not so much at the time (although i do think his stamina improved as he will now run circles in the field near my house playing tig)
Ooo I bet that wasn’t fun at the time for sure!

Hi
Wouldn’t you want you dog to heel with you while running ? This seems like it would encourage your dog to pull and reinforce bad behavior?
