Sabena 548 plane crash that devastated US figure skating and cancelled World Championships 1961

With the recent Boeing 737 plane crash incident involving the China Eastern Flight happening so close to the ISU World figure skating championships 2022, we can't help but remembering the air disaster happened in 1961 that wiped out the entire US Figure skating team traveling to the World Championships that year. It was probably the saddest moment ever in figure skating world. And because of this incident, US Figure Skating mandated that no more team traveling together to the international events, which apply until today. does the mandate(no traveling to a competition together) only applies to the US figure skaters or is it like generally?

@@adievlog101 In US it's a mandate. But I think most Canadian figure skaters also don't travel together for this reason. For other countries, I don't think it applies as we often see Russian skaters and sometimes Japanese skaters travel together as a team..

Yeah it's a part of figure skating history, but it's been more than 60 years so.. Maybe not many people know about it except those who like to dig the history..

I remember this happening. It stunned. I watch Mayday, airplane disasters, and never have they mentioned this terrible crash. I always wondered what the cause was.
