Preach it! I went through this over 15 years. My best videos are ignored and my channel went dead. I have rebranded my channel 3-4 times and nothing would take off. I finally cracked the code and my new direction is finally getting traction after years of no hits. Any time you do anything that is just a little different, hit the button to NOT show it to your subscribers. What happens if your subs jump into watch and the new topic doesn't interest them and they jump right out. It tanks your algorithm. If you put it out without telling subs only people click it that actually are interested.
So they stay on and watch. The first 3 days you won't get barley any hits, and it is scary. But around day 2-3 youtube shoots it out if you have good watch time but really low views.
Try it, it has been really working ressurect my channel. I am tempted to update and republish my really good old videos and see if it blows new life into it.
I love your channel, good luck.

KATHERINE, I hear ya! The "outside world" sometimes has that same reaction to anything creative, or different. It all needs to be "on brand"! When someone has a creative idea, it is rejected or stolen and the creatives are forced into redundancy!

Thank you so much for making this video. I am struggling with this same issue. I even go back and forth on taking a break from my channel because the whole point was to build a community and have fun sharing ideas and now it’s simply not fun or creative at all. Everyone’s UA-cam journey is unique, I’ve been posting for 3 years and doing all the same things as many other decorating channels and I still only have 2800 subs, while others are nearing 10,000. It takes so much time to create, edit and upload and I pour my heart into each one…it’s frustrating and easy to self doubt and get caught up in negativity. I don’t think I’ll ever fully understand why the algorithm picks and chooses the videos they push but you make so much sense and the most important take away from this video for me is that I need to do what brings my soul joy and stop trying to figure it out. ❤

Oh my goodness Katherine. You have hit my heart directly. I have been working at this for like 8 years and barely hit 25,000 subscribers and a little over a million views. It is such a struggle and if you're unique and creative, you don't get noticed. If you do the same thing everybody else does then you're just in the gamut of thousands of other videos doing farmhouse. Let's say that was a big thing a couple of years ago but it is so frustrating. You really can't use UA-cam as a channel for your creativity or uniqueness. I was surprised that your channel didn't have more than 10,000 subscribers yet since you are so engaging and charming to watch. I would say the same to any Creator that's on UA-cam. You have to do what's best for you. If it's for your creative outlet then keep going and keep being yourself. Thank you so much for your inspiration and kindness. Both you and your channel subscribers are such a sweet community😊

I think this was a great video. My main focus on my channel has been antique store/thrift hauls and live sales, that's where most of my views come in. As someone who likes to shop, I thought I'd throw in some other videos of places I like to go to find deals, you know, just to do something a little different. The haul videos I do from places like Marshalls, Bealls, etc, just don't do all that well. I, at one point, thought about doing a separate channel for other things, but I've come to the conclusion that if people like my content, they will watch. I'm not looking to be the next big youtube trend setter. I'm just being me, and sharing who I am with the world. I love the old stuff, but there's more to me than just that. That's why I keep everything on one channel, I am me, Vintage Vinny, youngster who loves the old, loves a bargain anywhere he goes, and has a wealth of knowledge of Coca Cola trays. That's me.

I agree. I loved your video about panting temporary spiderwebs on uranium glass and I’ve been on the hunt for some plates or better yet a teacup and saucer to try this out on. I another channel, Laura Jane Atelier, who usually does videos on vintage beauty, Hollywood and fashion did a recent video about why everything in entertainment feels like a rerun, sequel or similar, she equated to the death of creativity. In large part many of different venues, channels, even production companies are owned by a few major holding companies who want a sure thing so they give you variations of the same thing rather than looking for the next hot group, creative concepts in movies, etc.

First time commenting, just want to say I went back to watch your uranium glass painting video and loved it! I've spent a few evenings while you're live just enjoying the show and doing my art. I'm currently turning an old wooden dollhouse I made into a stained glass creepy style church so when the sun shines through or the fairy lights are on inside its so magical 😊.
I wonder sometimes if creatives are becoming a rare breed, whether due to time, money, everything new at people's fingertips, I'm not sure. I've also closed down my antique and vintage shops because once I stopped catering to certain aesthetics and didn't have the time to style the item just right in the photos it seems sometimes people can't see the beauty in the item. I enjoy what you do and can't wait to see what you have for the new year ❤.

You're the first person I've heard that has so elegantly explained the frustrations and how the algorithm works and the impact on your psyche. Have you read Austin Kleon's "Show Your Work"? I was trying to find a playlist of other videos you have about being a creative content creator. I hope you keep doing your creative niche but hope you also throw up the occasional "talking head", minimal edit video taking us behind-the-scenes encouraging fellow creatives to keep going. You're speaking to more than just vintage enthusiasts. You're speaking to a broader audience of us everyday folk who want to live life more beautifully and part of that is documenting and celebrating our everyday. Listen, I do intuitive painting videos for 20 mins a day. The ALGORITHM hates me.😳🤣😂🤣 That's okay. I realized today earlier that isn't important to me. I'm only here to be accountable to myself for a daily practice and maybe along the way, it inspires another to have one too. In however that shows up for them.
We have to step away from what I call the "NOISE" and tune back into our own hearts. I believe that art, creating whatever and however that expresses for you, is going to be the elixir that begins to heal all those past hurts and wounds. Slowly healing the whole of us with each piece or investment in us that we do. For when we create we invest in us, that always has the best returns in my book.
All those things need to be released back into the VOID. Getting them out in the form of "ART" in whatever medium is far better than keeping all that bottled up inside. Sometimes the medium becomes just visual with no words, allowing the narrative to become whatever it needs to be for the viewer.
From my perspective, KEEP doing YOU!! I have always appreciated your content, the breadth of what you deliver and find you to be one HELL of a Creative Soul, we need more of that, at least expressing itself openly for others to see and be inspired by, in however that inspiration shows up for them.
