  • Join me for a day in the life of a doctor while I'm vlogging in clinic and in the hospital! As an internal medicine resident, I complete rotations in different medical specialties. Currently I'm on my endocrinology rotation. In the morning, I'm seeing patients in the diabetes clinic, then in the afternoon I'm seeing patients admitted in the hospital!

I’ve been type 1 diabetic for 11 years (diagnosed at 6). Being on the Medtronic insulin pump and CGM has made my life much easier. My current HbA1C is 6.7%!. Due to my diabetes I’ve discovered a love for nursing, I’m starting nursing school (bachelor level) in February next year. Love from Australia!💚

I'm a student paramedic so still VERY new to anything medical. I went to a patient a few weeks back actively having quite a big MI. Barely any pain, no typical MI symptoms (except he had vomited once, and the ecg stemi), and it is all because of their type 2 diabetes. Something that struck me was they said, I have been waiting for this day because of my health issues anyway. Really struck me and lead me to research what diabetes actually really is in terms of what else diabetes can do to a human body if not found out, controlled etc! Thank you for this video!

I was excited to see this as I have been a type 1 for 30 years already (since I was 3). Plus I also work in a diabetic clinic! Our clinic is run with several nurses and dietitian as well as Internal Med Specialist and an Endocrinologist. We even have a family doctor who is a diabetologist! We also run Diabetes in pregnancy clinics as well as seeing type 1 and type 2 patients. There is a pediatric team of endos, RNs and RDs as well, but I don’t work as much with them.
I wish we had better access and integration of a psychologist and social worker with our program. So many people need so much help in those areas, and it’s so hard to help someone manage their blood sugars when their mental health or their socioeconomic status are the bigger concern.
I have learned so much about myself and my diabetes from working in this clinic. I truly feel I was meant to be where I am. I unfortunately have retinopathy and just underwent a vitrectomy to fix a detaching retina. Thankfully all went well and my vision is perfect. Diabetes is hard and many ppl just don’t understand how every little thing can affect your blood sugar. Stress, being super excited, having a cold, a crappy sleep, a 10 minute walk, etc. All those things can make blood sugar go high, or drop low and it’s tough to deal with some days. But if people utilize clinics like this and tap in to the resources that are there for them, they can get a lot of support and people with diabetes need support whether you admit it or not!
Great video, take care and Merry Christmas and all the best in 2020!!

Please read Dr Jason Fung, the Diabetes Code and the Obesity Code books. You can stop you disease from progressing. I did not know any better so I became a type 2 diabetic. Educate yourself now and not through this sweet, although misinformed doc on type 2.

    • @Ron_the_Skeptic

Do your own research. Almost everything you have been told about diet is wrong. Obesity is a side effect, not the cause. Every time you eat a carbohydrate your blood sugar increases, then insulin is released to control the sugar, and the excess sugar is stored as fat. The frequency of this process can cause insulin resistance resulting in Type II diabetes. You can eliminate carbohydrates from your diet and that will resolve the need to control Type II diabetes and pre-diabetes caused by insulin resistance.

I have been a diabetic for 7 years, and I currently struggle with this every day. I was diagnosed when I was 15. I am a type 1. It's so hard because you crave so many foods. But I am trying my best to have a good a1c. After my first semester of college, I got real bad DKA, went into a coma for a week plus, and had kidney failure that turned into dialysis as well as a bacterial infection. I almost died. It's scary but I been way better on what I eat. And now I am continuing college going to become an ICU nurse. And hopefully a nurse practitioner in the future. You are so inspiring, thank you.

Great video. I love your approach to type 1 diabetes and how you do a consult. I've had type 1 since the age of 3 (dx in 1979) and have seen Al advances in technology. Currently using a Medtronic 640G insulin pump and a Libre sensor. A1C is 5,6%. Unfortunately I have got some complications from the days control wasn't that good. I love to see medical students and residents approach a disease like diabetes differently than it used to by doctors and nurses. And people in general. That really helps. Thank you for sharing. Always enjoy your videos! Have been binge watching all of them again since I was discharged this last time! Currently trying to make it through the holidays at home then will go back in patient for a celiac plexus block, ileostomy reversal, and MALS surgery. I also have to check my sugars due to hypoglycemia, but struggle to keep them up on my off hours from TPN. Thanks for all you do!

I want to be a doctor and hearing about the time commitment made me pretty discouraged because I don't think I can give up playing all of my instruments. Thank you for talking about your upcoming performance and playing in the video, it's pretty reassuring (and it sounded really good 🎻) 🙂

So excited to hear you mention a transsphenoidal pituitary surgery! I had this surgery in 2016 for cushings disease. It’s such an easy surgery to recover from. Modern medicine is just incredible, isn’t it?!

This video is just so timely. Went to a doctor last week to be tested for thyroid and turns out I’m hyper. Sucks because there’s so much restrictions now but I have to deal with it to heal quicker. Hope you could do more on Endo rotation. More power & my sister is also a doctor

I’ve had a Bariatric Bypass and my type 2 diabetes has literally turned around. No more insulin. But I still have a watch my sugars which is why I still take my BSLs between 8-20 times a day. I don’t drive when sugars r less that 5. Ty to the fabulous drs that gave me the chance to turn it around with having the BB. Ty for ur education. Very informed. Why I’ve subbed and will continue to watch.
