    A very good instructional video. Easy to understand and very well edited.

    It would've been nice to have a mention of start line obstructions when talking about the Windward Leeward course, but other than that, super helpful teaching resource. I'll be showing it to my beginning racers next season!

    Thank You. I'm not a sailor but I was trying to explain to someone that no boat had a right of way. I was not clear how it was worded.

    depends if your racing or sailing Andy in racing the right of way boat can pretty much do what it wants to mess with the other boat.

    Those are the same rules we use in Ohio for driving.

    If on the same tack and the boat to windward has to give way to the boat to leeward, and the boat to leeward can point better than the boat to windward, what does the windward boat have to do? Does he have to tack over to avoid getting hit?

    • @170221dn
      @170221dn 10 років тому

      He doesn't have to tack, but he does have to keep clear, so that could be by tacking.

      One must also take into account that the leeward boat is subdue to his proper course. Also, the rules change three (I think) years. But these rules are basic, so they might not change

    Wait I thought you are not supposed to cross the finish line from behind in the windward leeward course when you just rounded the windward mark and are sailing down to the leeward mark. Aren't you supposed to go around the start/finish line?

      no start line is not part of course except for start and finish,

      Only when local rules state so. Club rules can state the gate is a mark of the course and must be avoided or entered.

    Yes Rule 13 can come into play but that's why I said pretty much.

    There is NO right of way. It is STAND-ON vessel only, which means it has keep course and speed.
    Regards, Andy
