The issue with our Juju or voodoo is that you can manipulate the power to affect or attack someone that didn't do you any wrong at all. That kind of power is bad in my view. Tradition is totally fine, and our language is good. However, our religion that evil people can easily use to attack innocent people is less desirable.

The world is the kingdom of darkness. Only Christ brought like into it. Reject Christ and perish in darkness.
I was born in a house were some visitors come from other states to pay a visit to my dad by appearing and disappearing. I'm not speaking as a novice in the traditional religion but I can boldly tell anyone who wants to know the truth that Satan is leading you to hell if you reject Christ.

Juju is from West Africa. It was carried into Haiti by west african slaves and became Voodoo. On other Caribbean islands its known as Obeah or Santeria.
You should do a video on the houses where pregnant girls are kept, then paid small money. I think the two are connected

"Juju" is not a native word in any West African language. It's just a modern blanket term for spirituality or magics that is likely post-colonial.
"Vodu" is an actual word in Gbe languages(Ewe, Fon, Aja, etc...) used to describe spirituality. Note that there is some overlap between "Vodu" and Yoruba "Orisha"(which you Nigerians are familiar with) since some Orisha deities are worshipped in some Vodu shrines as well.
Haitians do not say "voodoo", this is an American term. There is no such thing as voodoo in Haiti. Haitians say "Vodu". Haitian Vodu is a syncretic spirituality that incorporates Catholic influences, Yoruba influences, BaKongo influences etc... and obviously Fon/Ewe/Aja as the name suggests.
Santeria has more Yoruba influences than Vodu although it does have Arara.
"Obeah" is a term similar to "juju" and doesn't have any systemized ritual practices or liturgy to be compared to Santeria, Candomble or Vodu. It might be because more was lost on Anglophone Caribbean Islands compared to Brazil Cuba or Haiti. Similar to how "maraboutage" in some West African Muslim communities does have origins in some older religions but have lost a lot of its communal ritual practices and liturgy and have come to be marketed more so as "juju" in more modern times.

Jude, you hit the nail on the head with this one! I agree with everything you said! ALL BEINGS AND THINGS LIVING AND NONE LIVING SHOULD BE RESPECTED THE WAY THEY NATURALLY EXIST, PERIOD! You can't convict and sentence to hell a tiger for killing it's prey...it is a tiger and it will live as such... equally you cannot convict a person who grew up in a Hindu home for being Hindu... neither should such be done for a Christian, Muslim or African Spiritualist...ALL should be respected in their natural state of being...this WAR over who is spiritually correctness was born out of colonialism when Europe was fighting to conquer the world...and was taught to their conquered subjects who are continuing the fight to this very day...And for those who speak on the evils of voodoo, speak on your evil pastors who steal from you continually and have sex with their congregation members, is it not evil... what about those who claim to be Muslim and KILL in the name of Allah? Is that evil? Was it evil when the "Christians" came to buy slaves in Africa and FORCED them to give up their culture/spiritual practices? IT IS A PERSON OR BEING WHO CHOOSES TO COMMIT AN "EVIL" ACT NO MATTER THEIR SPIRITUAL PERSPECTIVE!!! I speak with all do respect, in peace with ALL people and creation regardless of spiritual perspective, and as a proud member of those who practice African Spirituality 🙏🏿

    • @Iskander448
      @Iskander448 8 місяців тому

I am sorry but some parts of your comment are inaccurate.
YES it was evil of the European Christians to buy slaves. As with many cases, religion has merely been a cover for others to conduct selfish, evil actions . In case you forgot, there were other European Christians who FOUGHT to end the slave trade under the justification that it was against the teachings of Jesus. As with every religion, there are those who will distort text for their own selfish gains. Christians still have that problem with prosperity gospel preachers and sexual abuse. It is also evil when terrorists take lives in the name of Islam as their holy book(the Qur'an) is clear on the taboo of taking human life. Bear in mind that most of the victims tend to be fellow Muslims. Religion should never be used as an excuse for evil or criminal behaviour. It is the reason why most countries abide by constitutional laws which supersede all others (religious or cultural). Your definitions of what is natural have been proven to be largely subjective e.g. what you deem as natural is deemed to be a taboo by others. A tiger is an animal ruled by instinct. Religion on the other hand is a product of civilization thus making it a product of thought. It was human SOCIETY that created the bedrock for religion.
Spirituality is an entirely different subject from criminal conduct and should be treated as such. Any man or woman is free to engage in whatever practice they deem fit as long as it does not harm or impede others. What you are trying to engage in is known as moral relativism and also has been used by non religious people to justify some of their practices.

So you see, the catch here is that voodoo/juju has the innate ability to be used to do evil, i.e evil itself exit in the practice it self and all it takes is for a voodoo worshipper to invoke a spirit.
As related to Christianity on the other hand, our beliefs is solely pure and you can't invoke the holy Spirit for evil even if you want it.
The wrong in Christianity is in behavior and manipulation of some people for their personal gain, the power of God in Christianity can do no evil.
      Think about this.

I'm a firm believing Christian but know a thing or two about the workings of spirit mystics and believe me when i tell you this practice you so casually call "a religion" comes with prices that are beyond damaging.
The price of working with these spirits subtly eat down to the very soul and their effects last for generations. Whatever they give they lie in wait to acquire a price beyond costly. Be careful the forces you align with.
True Christianity leads to true power and liberty. This voodoo taps into the service of forces that claim ownership over those who seek to explore their powers and their hold lasts generations.
And please the wickedness in this practice makes it unworthy to be compared with Christianity or ancient Judaism.

You are totally wrong in that 90% of African countries believe in abrahamic religions when the West are about 30 to 50% atheist it has nothing to do with the practices the only difference is the leaders there they care about their citizens and they simplifies the living condition for them like education knowledge infrastructure all of this together while in Africa no one cares about the citizens the leaders only looting the resources, instead of 90% of Africans practicing abrahamic religions if we all practice our traditional religions we would have loved each other instead of self-hate and trying to be in the image of our abrahamic religions that is why you find a lot of Africans claiming to be other people for example you have Hausa claiming they have Arab ancestry and you have Igbo and some of Yoruba claiming they have Jewish ancestry or Israelite this is all self-hate this is what keep us down not the practices of our traditions

Like someone pointed out here, covenants with all of these other gods keeps you and your unborn generation indebted for life. Infact you pay in so many ways that your evil mind would never bargain for!
Many people in Nigeria are so unstable due to covenants made by their ignorant ancestors even before they came into existence.
Yes the white man came, yes they brought along it Christianity and they shed more light on to why the religion our people follow then is not the best BUT regardless of how Christianity came the fact remains that it set a lot of people free from the evils of idol worship.

Quick question to those in the comment section. If these practices and gods were so powerful, why did they not fight or defeat the European colonialists or Arab invaders who came in the name of other gods?
Its strange how European, Australian, East Asian and North American societies adopted a more practical approach to their traditional/ancient religions in terms of their immediate societal benefits as opposed to focusing mainly on spirituality. An example is the practical adoption of Norse mythology by Scandinavian countries. They have stepped aside to allow their gods to be depicted in the arts (such as Marvel movies ), tourism etc. All of these have brought considerable levels of income to their respsctive economies. As depicted by our movies or the stories in the news, traditional religions have been mostly used as a source of fear and intimidation. If priests drew a line against using their arts to harm or dominate others (who are mostly innocent) , then it would have a better reputation. However when every captrured criminal is caught with some charm or the other, it will be difficult for others NOT to associate such religions with criminality. Should we not judge and examine its practicality and overall benefit to the society? Why should we just accept it blindly simply because it is 'part of our culture'? What history has proven is that is the more practical societies that dominate. It happened with the Romans and also with the British.
As to the question of law, the constitutional laws which govern each country supercede any other law be they religious or cultural. That is because countries are heterogeneous entities filled with people of different ethnicities, cultures and faiths. If killing an individual (or sacrifice in a cultural context) is against the constitutional law(which would describe it as murder or manslaughter), then it should be illegal regardless of your cultural practices. In the example that was given, there are laws protecting the Ghanaian guy based on religious freedom. Many animists live in Western society. Practitioners of Santeria and even voodoo believers live and practice freely in the United States. The only condition is the question of harm to other individuals or the society.

How I see it. Africans are the biblical people ( I mean sub-Saharan Africans). Our tradition is basically rooted in pair with the Old Testament belief. Before the stories of the New Testament, Israel was already conquered by the Romans and many Jews fled the land into deeper Africa ( The wilderness).
The runaways never encountered Jesus ( who changed a few things of old) , so they continued practicing the religion of their forefathers thus it became what we know today.

A large chunk of African religion do not have a worship/veneration of the Almighty God, which is what adherent of the Abrahamic faith speak of.
Our forefathers did not worship the supreme being and that's the truth (and other regions of the world).
It's smart of Jude to have to highlight their similar practices but then, as an individual could it be that this gods are only trying to mirror practices of the Almighty?
Another thing is the fact that through the practice of this religion any individual can circumvent evil, which the God of the Abrahamic faith will not give to an individual.
So it may have been a way of life that has been suppressed but for me now what matters more for me is the person's being worshipped via a religion. God or gods.

Have you thought to look at it from the angle of ORO(where innocent people are sacrificed to appease gods) and from the angle of money rituals and other rituals that usually involves lost of lives of innocent people. African traditional religion might look like African right but critically looking at it. it can be very dangerous when practiced extensively when compared to a peaceful religion like Christianity where JESUS CHRIST already paid all the price on the cross and one's job is simply to accept the gift of salvation and believe he died for his/her sin and was resurrected the third day(Its too simple and too easy bro and so free).

The Eqyptians had their gods and system of worship and sacrifices, the Greeks had theirs so did the Romans, in the Americas too, Africa had hers too. Christianity and Islam are Middle Eastern religions. Christianity didn't originate from the West. Every region had/have idolatry.

The difference in all of this is force and manipulation.
I have been on both sides and I know for sure Christliness as a culture is best, when you consider humanity.
A traditionalist can do his things and receive Christ the Christ way, i.e. believe in Christ Jesus, love your neighbours and Love God.
When he receives the Holy Spirit, all other powers will have to submit.
In the first instance, all these religion and believes know and are aware of a more superior being beyond thier gods...
They just do not have a proper understanding of his ways. And that where Christ comes in.
Fulfilling the laws that their conscience have naturally created. Christ collapsed all laws you can traditionally arrive at into two subs: Your Love for God, and your love for His products (neighbours).
With all the knowledge that a voodoo (as it is called) practice posses, all is gotten from God who created it for good and He has freely given so there is the power of choice for all, which he will not trample on, but will give means to reconcile all back to the love He started it with.
So, I say, if an herbalist believes in Christ and accepts His lordship, he gets even better, the herbalist will now do his practice with Christliness and not use the knowledge for evil because Christliness is the only way to GOD.
NB: I used the word Christliness to seperate the name Christians because I know for sure that name was not Christ's intention but given by people who looked and saw the ways of those who acted Christlike, or Christly.
So, in essence, I am saying two things: 1. That Christ came for all and so the people bringing His teachings had to bring it, but even in their ways, their are faults because they are humans. 2. If every other culture and religious practices will accept Christ, even the earth will be more healthier because His teachings permits that we Love God and Love God's products (thats your neighbours: not just humans, animals, etc.) But we cannot do this by our actual human spirit, which is why He God sent the Holy Spirit to help us in the handling.
Imagine a snake jumps in you and you wont have to panic but just removed the snake and let it to its proper place, imagine that an hater got you blinded from birth or possessed you with a periodic illness which have made you continually reach out to spiritualist, herbalist periodically, now imagine that the one that created and own all powers in heaven, on earth and beyond is with you.
I dont know if i need to tell you to accept Christ,
But take this, He wants you to turn to him and give Him your heart truly, devote your life to him and keep seeking His face, he will show you his mercies.
    Thank you Jesus.

Jude I am a fan of your work. But I think this effort isn't one of your best. I respect your work because it usually is fact based. However I feel you have gone for a more sensationalist approach. Starting with the Nollywood style image. Nollywood exists mainly for entertainment and is rarely factual on this issue .
You failed to really provide any real background to these beliefs. You didn't even mention any West African belief systems such as Ifa. You simply lumped everything under Voodoo which is incorrect. Your focus was on the supernatural and witchcraft and very little on spirituality.
You bring up fraud and crime as criticisms. But we know this can be attached to any religion. It's people who pervert religions not the other was around.
There is so much misinformation about African spirituality and this video failed to provide enough enlightenment.

Without God there is no devil, without devil there is no God.
In IFa Yoruba traditional spirituality there is no devil. We trusted in the force of universal that created everything good and evil energy we get hormonise with them in order to create balance. The universe itself isn't balance
It was foreign religion Christianity and Islam to that demonized Africa traditional faith and their Scriptures justify slavery Africa spirituality that is reason we are poor in Africa today.

Juju (aka voodoo outside Africa) is just the darker side of African history.
I personally do not condone it due to much emphasis on sacrificing living things but unfortunately even in religion there is a double standard as most things coming out of Africa are automatically deemed barbaric. The world treats Celtic and Nordic mysticism as just another part of European history but well for Africa its a different story.

@ Jude Bella, your research on topical issues is quite informative and spell binding to the keen mind, this particular one on Voodoo to me is quite revealing and has given me another perspective to the negative publicity surrounding voodoo. One striking thing I tend to agree with you is that it's quite possible that the practice may have been hijacked by left handed Practitoners which has made it look more negative than good purpose. Am a firm Believer in authentic undiluted African religion from a Christian mystical view. Thus, Africa had true religion tied to God like any other of the 7 major world religion. Weldon and keep it pouring. Would like you to research on Devic evolution and Nature spirits ( Elemental Beings)

Who told you we want the kingdom of god... You that is talking do you even have the slightest idea of what 'the kingdom of god' is? Which God are you even talking about?...
For the record the christian god is not the creator of the universe... Investigate your christian religion very well before your try to impose it on other people... Your Jesus was created from serapis and made an official christian god in the council of NACEA... Christianity is a convoluted forged religion weaponized against africans and was peddled diring the slave trade as a permanent sedative to maintain the disarray set in africa by pur colonial masters...
