Saw this devious plan a month ago by the studio when they dropped TP3 on Mother's day, then increased the chances of my guess being right when they delayed an episode after the Begaritt journey. Though seeing Paul's corpse like this in the anime is about 5x more brutal and hard-hitting compared to the LN's illustration, where his lower body was dimmed and just cut by the edge of the page. They really had to goddamn slow pan his whole(half) body vertically here to rub it in our face that he's dead. Then they tripled the pain by ending the episode with Zenith's awakening. They really hurt me again despite already knowing these events, wtf.

It was pure pain with the slow pan! Like my heart was already racing the whole episode with this epic ass fight and I knew somebody had to die. But HIM! LIKE THAT! Nah
