    Bougainvillea bloom when they have good drainage ,full sun, and a lean "diet". IOW , low nitrogen,, gritty dirt. Rich fertile soil will result in lush foliage, and no blooms. My mom’s huge bougainvillea stopped blooming after she hired a lawn service that included monthly feedings of fertilizers high in nitrogen. (The bougainvillea was in the ground next to the well -fed grass..) My bougainvillea is growing in sandy soil., and mulched with gravel. Bone meal may also encourage blooms

    This is not a good way. It’s putting unnecessary stress on the plants. Even after watering and the flowering, the plants look bare with thin long branches and overall look weak.
    The better way is to trim them twice a year to grow new branches and get the plant fuller and water them daily or 3 times a week depending on the temperature and how fast the soil dries. I make sure the soil gets dry between watering. With this method even if it rains heavily the plants flowering rate will not be effected. I have 38 Bougainvilleas around my house and they are full, dense and covered entirely with flowers all year round.

      As soon as the plant starts flowering, water regularly...this will make the flowers last longer..if you miss watering you will see the flowers falling down...don't do anything else...no fertiliser, no pruning, no special treatment...just regular watering..after 2-3 weeks when flowering is eventually over...again gradually decrease the watering and prune off all the twigs which carried the flowers

    Hello, I really love bougainvilleas! Thanks for this! Question though, how often in a year can we do this method without harming the plants? Also what months of the year is this possible? Would you know if the sane effect can be achieved using fertilizer? I'm aware about using urine mixed with water. Any info would greatly help, thanks!

    • @doasyoulike4080
      @doasyoulike4080  5 років тому +2

      it depends on the climate of the place...for example i live in Kolkata in India which is very hot and humid throughout the year. In winter temp hardly drops below 10 degree C. So Bougainvilleas flower most during the winter months between November to March when it is sunny and moderately cold. During the summer months from April to June also it flowers but due occasional thunder storms the flowering cycle is disturbed. From July to almost mid October is the monsoon time when flowering totally stops.
      More than fertilizer what is necessary is proper watering(avoid over watering), bright sunlight and pruning( do watch my new video on pruning)... along with this potassium rich fertilizer will boost flowering...but without sunlight, pruning and correct watering don't expect much of flowering.
      About urine I am not sure.

      Depends on the weather....if it is cloudy...you may skip watering for a day...but if it is hot and sunny and there are buds on your plant...you need to water regularly for the buds to mature into blooms...less watering at this stage may result into the buds falling off

      I will be honest to you...I have never succeeded in propagating bougainvillea from cuttings...there are a number of videos on youtube about this...I have gone through them....tried those techniques a number of times...but failed....the cuttings when dipped in water do produce roots after 3-4 weeks...but once I take them out and plant them in pots they die....but nursery se kharida hua ek bhi bougainvillea mera aj tak nahi mara he....ekbar roots nikal ke poydha lag jay to bougainvillea asani se nahi marta..par cuttings se naya plant grow karna mujhe nahi aata he...so sorry for that.

    How do I make a starter from cuttings

    • @4JERIc1
      @4JERIc1 5 років тому +2

      Get a green cutling about 5 to 7 inches long. Get some growth hormone. I use Garden Safe Take Root Hormone Rooting. The best way I found is to use a large empty coke bottle rinse out. Cut the bottle almost in half.
      Put holes in the bottom for drainage. Fill 1/4 with dirt.
      Dip your cutting end into the hormone growth powder and with a pencil make a hole in the center. Just make sure your cutting doesnt touch the sides or the top of the bottle. Make sure the dirt is completely wet before planting of course.
      Put the bottle in a warm place. It acts as a terrarium and water's itself. All bugs stay away and it stays at a good temp.
      You can do hibiscus the same way.
      When cutting your new piece. Pls cut with shears or scissors that has been cleaned with bleach and water. You don't want your plant to get bacteria or fungus.
