Not to mention Ubisoft never said that was the main reason back then. People just assumed that was why, but even back then, ironside said he refused to play Sam that time around. But yes, him fighting cancer and keeping it on the DL is very explanatory looking back on it. Not everyone in the entertainment industry wants their health status known. Some are forward about it, others aren't.
Vandrefalk I couldn't believe it when he said in this interview that he had cancer I'm so happy Michael Ironside is still with us he will always be Sam Fisher to all of us 👍👍
As much as I loved Blacklist, I was always curious on why he never did the voice acting and now that I know why he didn't, I'm shocked! But at the end of the day he's still Sam Fisher and always will be!
Caden Weno No, they actually said it was because the voice acting was used with motion-capture. He couldn't do the stunts. He was on set to coach the other voice actor though.
I’m sure they are making a new game! I Doubt they would have this event without a new game being in development because splinter cell is one of their most beloved series. Especially if Ironside is back
They need to bring back the sort of industrial espionage, infiltration of highly secured compound (CIA headquarters, Kalinatek, Russian or north Korean underground bunker's, skyscraper's etc.) never mind about jungles, boats, outside facility. Go back to the source and drop that John Wick action scenes and multiple kill combos non sense. More importantly, TAKE YOUR TIME Ubisoft, push it back to 2019-2020. Make it feel next gen,. People love and are attached to the first 3 Splinter cell's, not to conviction or blacklist. Go back to the sources and don't screw up, we deserve a mind blowing brand new Splinter cell, just like the first one was back in the days.
Sam Fisher - The most charismatic and convincing spy! Thanks to Michael for having created such a character, and for the fact that we were honored to hear his outstanding voice ;)
We're proud of you Michael Ironside and for all the great work you did in the Splinter Cell series, it wouldn't have been the same without you. I'm glad you survived and hope to hear you in Splinter Cell 7 !
Thank you mr ironsides we wouldn’t have such a loved character without you, may you stay healthy and know your fans care about you and would be devastated if any ill were to befall you or your family.
As much as it would make the game better having Ironside back in Blacklist, I don't think this would be fair to Eric Johnson. He did the work he was contracted to do, and I guess he did okay, he just wasn't Sam Fisher. I don't know if I would feel comfortable having a re-release erasing all of his work, I mean, it wasn't the guy's fault.
v12vanquish135 Totally agree. It's disrespectful to Eric and I can almost guarantee Ironside wouldn't be down to do it. I think people would have been fine with Eric being a completely new Splinter Cell. Sam in Blacklist is basically just a generic soldier with some of OG Sam's background. That's 5+ games worth of a very specific and unique voice and character. You take that away and of course people won't like it.
It's so great seeing Michael Ironside return as Sam Fisher. Not gonna lie. I shed a manly tear. Michael Ironside _is_ Sam Fisher, and Sam Fisher _is_ Michael Ironside. Blacklist was an incredible game, but not having Michael Ironside provide the voice acting for Sam as well as Sam's illogically youthful appearance were two glaring issues.
Yea, the gameplay was good, but the whole game and story just felt off without Ironside as Sam... he really is the true embodiment of Sam Fisher. Here's hoping there's another Splinter Cell game in the works with him in it ;)
One of the greatest icons in acting history. Along side Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson, Chuck Norris, John Wayne, R.lee Ermey, AL Pacheco, Robert Dinero, The original mission impossible team and so many others. God bless them all for bringing joy to so many people by sharing your talent to the world.
The classic trilogy is great but double agent and conviction were hands down my favorite. Stories were incredible. I hope they continue with old Sam, no prequels and with ironside of course.
Michael Ironside is such an emotional actor. Like he said, you have to but life into it and he sure did in Sam Fisher. When I first saw the trailer to Fisher in Wildlands and heard Michael's voice, I got goosebumps and kinda teared up thinking back to the great memories of the past Splinter Cell games he did. I hope this isn't the last we've heard of Michael Ironside nor the last of Sam Fisher.
Thanks for staying with us Michael, and for again giving us a taste of one of your many legendary rolls! And Thank you UbiCentral for creating the potential! I've loved your games ever since Buck Bumble on the N64!
I really hope Michael understands to a degree the real impact he made on video games with a strong narrative, adding to atmosphere and immersion. I could not imagine the games or my interests being as ever clear without his involvement.
I am a soldier, I've served my Country for 20 years. But if I'm captured or killed, I don't think nobody will come to rescue me. I won't even get a funeral. Because the Nation that I protect can never admit that I exist. So my death would go unremarked, and my bones would go uncleaned. I don't know if that day will come, but I do know that it must NOT be today! I am invisible I am relentless I am Sam Fisher I am a Splinter Cell
Man, Splinter Cell title aside, Michael Ironside's name alone is enough to stir people into buying games. I didn't touch Wildlands but as soon as I saw this DLC AND Michael Ironside returning, I bought it instantly.
All prayers have been answered!!!! Ubisoft has to be for sure making a new splinter cell game! I doubt they would bring the hype of a splinter cell operation and Ironside to just have one weekend for wildlands. They have to be making a new game
Gabe Monce No doubt. New Splinter Cell is all but garenteed. Especially with Bowman giving Sam the situation breifing and telling him he needs to be ready to roll in an hour.
You mean to tell me that this man beat TWO forms of cancer at the same time! OMFG, Michael Ironside IS SAM MOTHER FUCKING FISHER!!! He double-killed cancer! That's a whole new level of badassery!!
He’s a great actor I loved him in total recall but the splinter cell series made a whole generation appreciate him that’s prob one of his most iconic role
I remember when Conviction was originally planned to be an open world game where Sam is a fugitive in Washington hunted by his agency. I was so excited because it reminded me of the Bourne series. I don't know why a company hasn't made an open world Jason Bourne game. Gameplay can simply be one player play as Jason while 6 other players hunt him in New York. Completely off topic but glad Ironside is back. Sam was a kid in Blacklist.
Glad youre okay ironside and plzzz ubi bring us a splinter cell this year or at least a remaster while waiting for a new game (chaos theory would be perfect)
Glad that micheal ironside is still alive! Hope he is doing well. Indeed, the man, the myth and the legend! Sam fisher in flesh and bone. As I think everyone noticed the background sound from the first Splinter Cell.. Hell, what a nostalgia…
We all missed you Michael. Sam has been my favorite character and series from the beginning. I am very glad your input was incorporated, Fisher would have not been the iconic force without you. The Fifth Freedom.
So glad to see and hear that you're doing well Sir.Believe it or not, you have a large community out there that wants to see/hear from you. Thank you for keeping Sam Fisher alive. There is no Sam Fisher without you. Prayers to you and your family for a full recovery
Happy Birthday Michael Ironside. I love Terminator 4 Salvation, Lake Placid 3, my older brother plays Splinter Cell not me, I just watch. And Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars, StarShip Troopers, and X-Men First Class. It's awesome. May the Peace be with u Michael Ironside. From Harlingen Texas. Not only glad to have Fisher back, but Ironside as well to voice him. They go together like peanut butter and jelly. I really hope the motivates Ubisoft to dev another Splinter cell with Ironside as Fisher’s voice again. 🙏
The man, the myth, the legend.
UbiCentral same to you
The organic legend
UbiCentral seen this comment on the David Hayter video where he tells some guy Kept you waiting huh ?
Funny. I was thinking those same words two seconds before I saw this comment. Game recognize game....
Wtf 666 like
Omg.. he had cancer?! That explains a lot more than "...we wanted sam fisher to look better in motion capture"
My thoughts exactly!
Yeah, thyroid cancer is what made him gain all the weight and he also had prostate cancer. Jester isn't going down that easily!
I read somewhere that Ironside wasn't ready to talk publicly about it so Ubisoft came up with that excuse
They were being respectful of his privacy and took the blame?
Good to hear that you are doing well Michael. You're the best.
Rusty Mckee Thank you, I know.
Michael Lemay your welcome Michael Ironside, who voices Sam Fisher, in the popular Splinter Cell games.
That was actually brilliant hahahaha
Hes a legend
Michael Ironside is by far my favorite voice actor. He plays his part perfectly, and i hope to see him in another splinter cell soon.
Matthew Sturniolo I hear you and he does make role shine like no other mine is Phil Lamarr
Michael Ironside is my favourite voice actore too and I also love Roger Craig Smith as Ezio
"But Sam Kills People!"
...
"Yeah."
“Killed by a Ninja!”
AFarCryAway so what. Humans have been doing it since time creation. Sam isn't the next messiah. Quit acting like he's some new being.
justinl458 How did you get that from their comment?
Michael Lemay he made it sound like a big deal.
justinl458 You remind me of my old ex girlfriend who misinterpreted all of my texts
"and i didn't die" followed by that laugh
legend ^_^
Shy Cass I know right, that part stood out to me too Michael Ironside is a legend.
I had no idea, Michael. :( Aw man.. I'm glad you're doing better! You'll always be Sam Fisher to me.
Vandrefalk I couldn't believe it when he said in this interview that he had cancer I'm so happy Michael Ironside is still with us he will always be Sam Fisher to all of us 👍👍
That's why he wasn't in blacklist!
But now he is back im glad he is okay!
I always wondered why.
As much as I loved Blacklist, I was always curious on why he never did the voice acting and now that I know why he didn't, I'm shocked! But at the end of the day he's still Sam Fisher and always will be!
Caden Weno That makes sense.
Caden Weno No, they actually said it was because the voice acting was used with motion-capture. He couldn't do the stunts. He was on set to coach the other voice actor though.
God I need another splinter cell game
Balder Knight this is all me and my buddy have been wanting since forever. Hopefully our wishes will be granted and we get something this E3
I’m sure they are making a new game! I Doubt they would have this event without a new game being in development because splinter cell is one of their most beloved series. Especially if Ironside is back
Balder Knight I’d preorder that immediately regardless of extras
They need to bring back the sort of industrial espionage, infiltration of highly secured compound (CIA headquarters, Kalinatek, Russian or north Korean underground bunker's, skyscraper's etc.) never mind about jungles, boats, outside facility. jefduf Completely agree, except I did also like the jungle and outdoor settings.
Feels damn good seeing you back, sir.
#FuckCancer.
ty for this feelings ubisoft
Sam Fisher - The most charismatic and convincing spy!
Thanks to Michael for having created such a character, and for the fact that we were honored to hear his outstanding voice ;)
And hes not a tuxedo spy!
@@TheWaynos73 Yeah, he's the real kind. Not the tuxedo kind. He's the kind that gets blood *all over that tux if you don't give him information.*
Omg a new Splinter Cell has to be coming soon 😍, thank you for this Ubisoft if it's true. You guys have really been turning around lately.
Zepo i am not putting my hope too high.
@@vP_-bb3md it's been two and I'm glad they didn't come with a game. Look what Ghost Recon has turned into.
We're proud of you Michael Ironside and for all the great work you did in the Splinter Cell series, it wouldn't have been the same without you. I'm glad you survived and hope to hear you in Splinter Cell 7 !
Like this Ubisoft
SPLINTER CELL 1 and CONVICTIONS were my favorites.
>conviction
disgusting
STRING3R its an opinion, just because someone likes conviction it doesnt mean he's "disguisting"
Chaos Theory was my favorite. The only PvP aspect is still the most fun I've ever had in an online game.
For me SC 1 and Double agent old gen
Micheal Ironside believe it or not is one of the reason I never got into blacklist
That was the biggest reason I disliked it. There is no Sam without Ironside
What is this Blacklist you all speak of? Last game was conviction...
Sir T3abäggins no it wasnt, stop being a troll.. look up Splinter Cell: Blacklist, came out 2013.
That's the joke
Blacklist doesn't deserve to be known as the last splinter cell game
The last real game was conviction and we all know it
As its own game it was good, but it felt sooooooo displaced from the game I wanted and was used to.
It's crazy to think how long we've been hearing that man's voice in a franchise.
When Michael said “I have cancer” I just bursted into full out crying
New Splinter Cell game announced at E3 2018. Who's with me?
Rob Cram nope
Ubisoft did confirm something is in the works though so that's something to look forward too.
Michael is the legend
One of the best voice actors ever !!!
Love Michael
There is no way a new Splinter Cell isn't at e3. HYPE. Glad Ironside's health is in order now.
Thank you mr ironsides we wouldn’t have such a loved character without you, may you stay healthy and know your fans care about you and would be devastated if any ill were to befall you or your family.
If they ever re-release Blacklist, they better have Michael Ironsides re-record all of Sam’s dialogue.
I understand. Maybe their can be an option to switch between the two?
Hey, George Lucas has done it! haha
I really liked Carlo Rota in that one, he was in 24 so hopefully they bring Majid Sadiq back.
v12vanquish135
Totally agree. It's disrespectful to Eric and I can almost guarantee Ironside wouldn't be down to do it. I think people would have been fine with Eric being a completely new Splinter Cell. An icon.. both Sam Fisher & his 'alter ego'
Michael Ironside. 😏🤙
First appearance I saw Michael in was the original ( V ) series, also brilliant.
It's so great seeing Michael Ironside return as Sam Fisher. Not gonna lie. I shed a manly tear. Michael Ironside _is_ Sam Fisher, and Sam Fisher _is_ Michael Ironside.

Great return Michael, God bless you
My inner voice when i am thinking sounds like Michael Ironside.. occasionally i change it up to Keith David or Kevin Conroy...
queelude9 Lmao oh my God I thought I was alone in doing that Kevin Konroy and Michael Ironside are my two choices

Hearing that OST in the background brings back some good memories.
This was filmed 6 years ago. Michael “ the real Ironman “ Ironside is still here with us!
the original splinter cell music!
Brings me back to playing Chaos Theory over and over

Love you Ironside. Thank you for giving us Fischer.
What I love it's that he doesn't TRY to sound like Fisher...he sounds like him by default
Stay healthy mr Ironside , for you , your family and of course for Sam ✌️❤️
Welcome back!👏👏👏👏
Legends never die.
We love you Michael Ironside. Always be in my childhood memories.
Michael Ironside one of my most favorite voice actors I was disappointed when he wasn’t in blacklist
He's got the same dry sense of humor as Sam "I didn't die *laughs*" You're very missed, best wishes for your health Mr Ironside.
Love your work. Gave you a shout out in my Splinter Cell vid. The character would never be the same without Ironside.
Thank you Michael....for bringing our Sam back.....!!!!
So excited......
Lucky to have met Michael I in the small small town of Apsley 3hrs North of Toronto

Michael's survival of cancer is a sign that Ubisoft need to make another Splinter Cell, at least for one last time.
Hearing his voice seriously sends shivers down my spine 😅
"He's never left. I'm Sam" and he 100% correct!
So him having cancer is that why he couldn’t do Sam on blacklist?
Ian Cross i believe so too im so happy he's back Michael ironside is a living legend weather people realize it or not...
Kuro Kohi agreed
I thought it was because they wanted the voice actor to also be the motion capture actor
Kuro Kohi is he ok now? I mean cancer free?
That seems to be what he is saying. Seems the worst has passed, and he's comfortable talking about it publicly now.
