It’s really a mixed bag out there…..I have seen Independent Baptists who become pastors but they just studied under their previous pastor without a seminary degree. Even if one obtain a Masters of Divinity, it might better prepare them for the ministry…..but doesn’t necessarily mean ministry success from a fame point of view. But if your going to teach others at a college or University level then a more formal recognised qualifications is definitely required.
You are absolutely right. There are pastors who do well without a recognized degree. However, if someone is spending money on an education, they need to understand the pros and cons.
