I saw ELO in concert in the 70's. What really struck me was how well they resproduced the studio versions while on stage. Ditto for the Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan, Chicago, Pink Floyd, and other massively talented 70's performers.
For around a decade, ELO consistently delivered hit singles and albums. Jeff Lynne's ability to sustain such a high level of songwriting and production during those years was just remarkable.
So fortunate to have grown up during the best decades of music from the 60s to the 80s, and into the 90s! Great reaction young man and I love your t=shirt! Hello from Texas!
Jeff Lynne with the band backing him is dreamy.Just puts you in a happy mood even if the lyrics don’t fit the music.A New Old Record is my favorite album and Telephone Kine is incredible!
It's a great album. The band really started flying with this one. Other tracks of theirs, I don't think you have listened to yet, are Wild West Hero, and Stepping out.. both worthy of your attention.
It's great because it's so emotional, but yet it has these moments where it's like Disco Inferno or something. And it just takes off. Jeff Lynne is always about a pop aesthetic but it's just so damn good at it and it was such a music of our times, I mean they had hit after hit and it just got inner woven into at least to me the fabric of my childhood but I know I'm not alone. It resonated with so many.
After listening to this song for what seems like a lifetime, I can honestly say it never gets old, or cold, or boring. Can't say I ever really analysed the lyrics to any extent, I just love the way it sounds.
If you want to hear and see a * production * by them watch the MV for Roll Over Beethoven. :) Another song that's a lot like this in tempo and so good is Sweet Talking Woman. The album El Dorado is something worth sitting on your own and listening to the whole thing. There are a lot of instrumentals on it and a really good lyric song called Can't Get It Out of My Head. From a different album, but reminiscent of that one is Strange Magic. You can't stop with ELO songs, but there are a lot of them worth hearing!
Anti-Depressants ...NO!.. THROW THEM AWAY. Doctor has prescribed half-an hour of ELO daily11...Jeff Lynne is a genius. So So gifted. Referred to as the "fifth Beatle" Later formed the Travelling Wilburys the Super Group of George Harrison, Bob Dylan Roy Orbison and himself. There will never be a more gifted, talented group. When Roy Orbison died in 1988 they were never the same as each member always "downed tools" when it was Roy's turn to sing his solo. Super group ELO
Oh, ffs! Abortion? Um, no. It simply uses some of the multi-use words that are _also_ used in abortion talk. For example, You mentioned _"conceive"_ , well, 'to conceive of something' is used way more to describe art and/or imagination, than it is used for talk about actual fertilisation of a human egg. And here, in the lyrics, it obviously used to mean a conceived plan, an agenda, a roadmap... NOT the act of making a child. But even that is unnecessary. It is very, very clear from our perspective that the "livin' thing" is Love itself... From the singer's perspective, it is more precise -- it is the very relationship that he can see ending. Amazing what ppl will do or say to sway opinion to their side. To put it simply, if anyone really really thinks this song is about abortion, then they are either dishonestly reaching, or are probably not paying enough attention to how language works. A couple of key words, words that might mean any of 3 or 4 things, interpreted out of context to make it work, is not exactly the most convincing evidence... But, hey, since when does evidence matter to that crowd, eh? ;-]
Thanks, Shawn! The genius of Jeff Lynne knows no bounds... lol p.s. you should react to some of their LIVE performances.. astounding... they truly live up to the "orchestra" part of their name... right?
One of my favorite bands, just brought some fantastic tunes to us growing up in the 70s/80s. After hearing my brother play their albums in the late 70s I was hooked. Jeff Lynne is a genius, just a master at arrangement & his collaboration with the who’s who in music is lengthy. Add to that his contribution to “The Traveling Wilburys”, which was tremendous.
Jeff Lynne was also in a super group called the Traveling Wilbury’s…. Members also include George Harrison, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan & Roy Orbison! You should check out their songs, both with video’s… “End of the line” and Handle with care”…. With a line up like that…. You can’t miss!!!!! Loved your reaction as always 🙂
Glad you enjoyed this amazing ELO track, the strings are 🔥on this song and I always find myself doing air violin almost every time I hear it. About the description of ELO’s sound you were commenting on, I think better than “art rock” would be “symphonic rock” because of the strong orchestral strings which are such a defining characteristic of ELO, at least 70s ELO that is, since 80s ELO veered into synth pop more than the classic orchestral pop sound which they rose to fame on. I hope you get to this amazing ELO track which is the one that turned me into an ELO devotee, the song is “Turn To Stone” ua-cam.com/video/gIOijJfrHas/v-deo.htmlsi=uK2_aOLoVupIEkuz I think you’ll appreciate it. Thanks!
Este fue su segundo hit alrededor del Mundo. Gran clasico, fue #4 en Inglaterra y #13 en los Estados. Maravillosa composición. Otros éxitos de ELO a evaluar porian ser "Misión" "All Over the World" "I am Alive""
I watch Reactors because I rarely thought about what the Rock lyrics were about. That's why we had Folk Music...for the lyrics. The Reactors tell me what I was missing lyrically.
JEFF LYNNE = CREATIVE MUSICAL GENIUS SHAWN, THAT'S HOWWWW!!! :) HE WAS ALSO ONE OF THE ORIGINAL 5 ( TRAVELING WILBURYS ) GEORGE HARRISON, BOB DYLAN, ROY ORBISON & TOM PETTY :) ANYWAY SHAWN, KEEP LISTEN TO GR88888 CLASSIC ROCK AND ENJOY!
Abortion Was One Speculation of the Topic if the Song Yet Another Was "Saving Whales" Which Was Yet Another 70s Movement. I Always Got it ! Jeff Lynne Appears to be Talking About LOVE !
Jeff Lynne basically is ELO, composer, singer, musician and producer/arranger, a true genius.
Jeff Lynne is a musical genius.

Jeff Lynne is a genius, that’s all you need to know, only Jeff can make a sad song sound happy! Fire on high will blow your mind 🔥🔥🔥
I am definitely learning how amazing Jeff Lynne is! What he touches turns to gold
This was the first ELO album I bought, maybe 1977. Bought it for this very song too.
I wish my kids would have your face on when they hear my old Junior High School music,,, Thanks for the memories and Im glad to see you enjoying ❤
In my opinion this album is their masterpiece ❤
To repeat what others have said: Jeff Lynne is a musical genius.
For around a decade, ELO consistently delivered hit singles and albums. Jeff Lynne's ability to sustain such a high level of songwriting and production during those years was just remarkable.
Great tune! One of my favorites from ELO
That whole album is 🔥🔥

Great choice. You can never go wrong with ELO. “Do Ya” think you could react to my favorite song by Electric Light Orchestra? 🌺✌️

Been a huge ELO fan since the 70’s. So glad to go on this journey with you

I think you’ll appreciate it. Thanks!
I did not know that about Patti Quatro--that's Suzi Quatro's sister, both members of the early-early all-female rock band The Pleasure Seekers.
Check out a live version at Wimbley their great live, if you haven't heard the song Telephone Line you'll love it live...great band of their time.
you should def check out Fire on high, its great
I second this motion! ;-]
I third it🔥🔥
It’s about love ❤ the performance of this at Wembley is spectacular….
In 2017 they did a stellar live performance of this song at Wembley Stadium in London, you should do a reaction to it!
