    Greetings to my fellow clan and family members! long live the maguire's! my grandmother Noreen Maguire, taught me never to forget my Irish roots, and talked of the many name derivatives as through out time i belive translation changed and fellow family moved through out to England, America, Europe, but were certainly all one! I visited Enniskillen I'm 2019 to skatters my great aunts ashes, and it was a bliss experience to return her home to such a beutiful land, I truly wish to meet more external family and get in touch with some of yourselves to share stories and experiences, if you haven't been I couldn't recommend more, the amazing stories of our decendands and the warriors they were, tales of Kings, war, gold, love and sorrow are to name a few! God bless you all!

      Dieter Meister So as far as I’m aware! When some people with the surname Maguire or Mag Uidhir fled to America, most of them where illiterate. This meant that the name was taken down wrong when they got to the American docks and established this version of the name which is most common in America

    • @LifesMoments-llc
      @LifesMoments-llc 3 роки тому +8

      During the conquest (1200-1607) most of the Mag-Uidhir lands were confiscated resulting in their move into other neighboring counties and also to other parts of the world. Thereafter, the modern spelling of the surname which came from the Gaelic Mag-Uidhir or MacUidhir family tree was later anglicized (practice of modifying foreign words) to Maguire and McGuire. Recent DNA advances and researchers through Ancestry.com have concluded that the ancestor DNA matches are in fact the Y chromosome from the early Mag-Uidhir Maguire McGuire surnames.

      McGuire or Maguire are both anglicisations of the original Irish name....as the saying goes by Mac or O you’ll always know an Irishman and true. McLysaght is the authority on clan names. McGuires proliferate in North Mayo. Maguire is common in other parts of Ireland. These distinctions predate Ellis Island.

      We have also been Maguire with many Hugh James William and Dennis in there but I'm not sure as don't believe we could get past William or Daniel Maguire out of Donnegal as the Church records were destroyed by the English around the time of the potato famine. I am still sad that we Irish that care so much for terra no longer belong there. When I see Ireland I see it as a whole country and hope it will be again. What was done to the Irish (Catholics) was not right. What we see now as Enniskillen is mostly English and though progress has been made it makes me feel angry. I now think I know how the American Indians and the Palestinians feel as well as many other groups throut the world. Forced occupation is never right.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that are hard to research about our family's past. And also, it seems, we were exiled from Ireland due to rebelling against the English, but ultimately settled in England before coming to America. I have so many unanswered questions. I will always love my beautiful ancestral home! One day, I will visit and do some investigation with my own eyes. God Bless Ireland! :)
