I enjoyed this very much. her powerful reminder that education prepares us to be engaged citizens and contributors to our communities ( plus the interpersonal and economic worlds). critical , wiggly thinking, vigorous analytic skills give us so much - and we lose horribly in cultures and times hostile to them. Thank you for posting.
Wow at the right wingers commenting on this video... Baroness Kennedy is one of the few people in public life I can think of who has never done anything with ill intent and has always worked to make the world a better place, and these people can still think of a reason to abuse her.
Its true,in England there really is not a culture of debate and certainly not the value of the democractic intellect".England,at least particularly the south is much more insular and less concerned about neighbours or community. There is a lack of ability to debate and discuss generally in this country and probably many others from what we can see but for a forst world country where education is free and available to most it is embarassing how unable we are to listen and debate and take on complex and contradictory at times pov. We are descending into bear pit levels of debate"or argument, mind you media hardly helps set the standards
Fascinating talk. We don't hear enough from people like her. We don't have enough discussion and debate in this country. Great stuff.

Hey it's the secretary of education from Battlestar Galactica, lol
Lady for leader in government.
She wouldn't live within ten miles of a ghetto.
Why should she? She knows how bad they are for people. But she'd want those in the ghetto not to have to live in the ghetto too.
maybe should leave up to those toffs at Eton or in westminster to stand up for poor people then or women who are abused ...yeah right, great idea !!
When's Channel 4 making it official and renaming itself The Feminist Channel?
What an excellent idea ! So glad you put forward the motion. Jolly good for you.
