Hong Kong is a world class city and the 5th most expensive in the world, after Singapore (another predominantly Chinese city), Zurich, NYC, and Geneva - so expensive that a peasant like you earning $500 USD/month will never be able to afford to come.

Keep in mind Hong Kong was practically a closed shop since 2019 with only last year that the gov opened its doors for people to come and go. I can already see the number of tourists around Kowloon side picking up. It’s not yet reached pre pandemic levels but I can see it’s getting densely populated again. Unemployment levels is pretty steady and still low despite what the segment is hinting. Share some stats rather than interview 1 unemployed youngster. Come on. I was around Hong Kong in 2019 (I'm not a Hong Konger) and China did not send in the military to ‘clean out the protestors’. It was nothing to do with them. Nobody died right? If you really do care, how many people died by the hands of the police in the Paris protest again which was happening at the same time?

Public street signs are in Chinese character and English and so are the menu at restaurant. English are used daily. If you work in the financial sector you are required to speak fluent English. I live and worked in Hong Kong in the late 1990s. Don’t tell what I don’t know. But , Yes English are spoken very often between Chinese Cantonese and the a large group of South Indian, and Filipino that do live in Hong Kong. English is the common language for all 3 of these groups of people that live in Hong Kong. Singapore is the same way. Maybe you should talk to or ask a few people that do live in Hong Kong before trying to correct me. Obviously this commenter is fluent in English and probably used English daily in Hong Kong.
